MissScarlett: It's a been a bad, well, desperate week for GOTD puns. Note the Allnutt-Lasker game I submitted, to which, I suggest, you append one of <offramp>'s happier moments, <W Allnutt Whipped>.

OhioChessFan: The hacker Klus were a stroke of genius. There, if nobody else will say so, at least one person did.

Don't forget to take 9 years off my account.

chessgames.com: Thanks Ohio, it's an idea we've been kicking around or 4 or 5 years now.

OhioChessFan: <In previous years, people went to the Clues Page and pressed "reload" like maniacs to be the first to get a shot at the new clues, whenever they went online. This year we are going to give your mouse finger a break, and tell you in a big red box at the top of the page, every time a new clue goes online. >

Not a big deal, but "this year" is outdated. "as of 2015" or whenever it was would be better. And if you're already going to the trouble, "..we are going to give your mouse finger a break, and every time a new clue goes online, we'll tell you in a big red box at the top of the page." flows a bit better.

chessgames.com: Thanks OCF. By the way, your Klu is still in the queue — we want it to get a little bit closer to Christmas Day for thematic reasons :)
Dec-20-17  zanzibar: <chessgames> Just curious, but why don't you have a dedicated forum for clue discussion?

Seems the equilibrium/ecosystem on the cafe gets disrupted around this time each year, with neither camp particularly desiring close contact with the other.

Dec-20-17  WinKing: That would be a great idea <zanzibar>. Makes sense.

chessgames.com: It's a little late for this year but looking at the state of K-Cafe right now, I must say it has become required. Perhaps the forum could serve as a kind of alternate to Louis Stumpers in the off-season, or a spin-off of the Stumpers Page where people can suggest Xmas style clues.
Dec-21-17  morfishine: <Chessgames.com> You are aware that the Indian name 'Harshit' is normal and common, but if we try to write up something about somebody with this name, we get a warning threatening to be banned. This is a bit much

The Obscenity controls should be updated regarding common names.

Thank you

*****

Dec-21-17  MostlyAverageJoe: <morfishine: ... Harshit ... This is a bit much...>

Heh, reminds me of an occasion about a decade ago, when my attempt to look at a website with recumbent bicycles (while at work) got Barracuded with a warning that my access to inappropriate website has been reported. The fuzzy match to vulgarities has apparently gotten triggered by "recumbent"...

Dec-21-17  MostlyAverageJoe: The idea for #51 was magnificent!

MAJ, in awe

  OhioChessFan: 51 was great, agreed.

I disagree there should be a dedicated forum for Klu discussion. Kibitzer's Cafe is the catchall page, and I don't see why you should start creating subsets. Stumpers already exists, the Cafe already exists, why double down on them? On a more pedantic note, just because, and I don't mean this as negatively or harshly as it'll sound, just because a few people use that primarily for song links, why should they continue to hold sway on what has been from day 1 to be the general discussion page?

chessgames.com: <The idea for #51 was magnificent! MAJ, in awe> Thanks MAJ. From you that means a lot. That and the "Poplar Mechanics" are my favorites.

The Kibitzer's Cafe has become a trash bin that's why.

SwitchingQuylthulg: The Kibitzer's Café needs cleaning up even more than the Rogoff page does (because it's more high-profile than the Rogoff page - newcomers having a look at Chessgames won't see the Rogoff page, but they will see the Café); diverting klu discussions away from there seems totally counterproductive.

Annie K.: Well... I do find myself wondering sometimes if maybe YouTube could survive without our help...;s
Dec-21-17  MostlyAverageJoe: < OhioChessFan: ... I disagree there should be a dedicated forum for Klu discussion> +3

I'm with <OCF> on this one.

I'd go even as far as to have Kibitzer's Café posts screened for presence of youtube links, and automatically send such kibitzes to Tomislav Music (which, I see, <OCF> has discovered ages ago).

<SQ>'s concern about newcomers being put off by the content of Kibitzer's Café can be addressed by having the default ignore list preconfigured to contain about 5 people :-)

MAJ, still taking medication that makes me extremely irritable and grumpy, so I won't be too disappointed if neither of my ideas is accepted...

Dec-21-17  WinKing: <MostlyAverageJoe: <SQ>'s concern about newcomers being put off by the content of Kibitzer's Café can be addressed by having the default ignore list preconfigured to contain about 5 people :-)>

That would work. ;)

Domdaniel: I've been around long enough to remember when the Kib Café was not a jukebox -- and still a forum for chat and queries. I recall it was actually helpful to new arrivals, which it isn't now.

I also support <Ohio>'s position, and can see the logic in <MAJ>'s idea of diverting those YouChoob links.

Though it might be very confusing for the YouChoobers, some of whom are not the brightest buttons on the blazer.

Dec-21-17  zanzibar: <Maj>/<OCF>/<Dom> - yeah right.

Like those who want to banish Rogoff, both trains have long left the station.

It seems a bit cliquish thing going on here...

Dec-21-17  zanzibar: <CG> is a multi-dimensional world, with a multi-cultural community.
Dec-21-17  thegoodanarchist: <zanzibar: <chessgames> Just curious, but why don't you have a dedicated forum for clue discussion?>

I sure a few of our resident audiophiles will spam it with links to songs. Seems like they do that to every other forum.
