 | | saffuna: That whole post from So seems out of character. He certainly knows he finished equal fifth, not equal third. |

 | | chessgames.com: Hmmm, that is unusual, but the post came from the same browser/OS combination he's been using for years. |

| Feb-03-18 | | rogge: My best guess it's a ghostwriter. |

My bad. |

 | | Fusilli: I was also wondering what was going on with that absurd <Wesley So> post. He certainly knows how his sport works, right? |

 | | chessgames.com: Don't bother Agdestein — GMs don't take "challenge vs computer" games anymore, even in correspondence settings. It's turned into too much of a "John Henry vs the Steel Drill" affair. There was a sweet-spot when Bronstein (et al) and finally Kasparov could go toe-to-toe with the best computers, but those days are long gone, and will never come again. |

(We will allow AlphaZero to use Stockfish!) |

| Feb-05-18 | | heuristic: We need a place to suggest moves for the puzzles. i'm finding instances of great puzzle moves on my own and from comments by others. also, we need a puzzle theme week of "missed" moves. |

| Feb-05-18 | | WinKing: <heuristic: We need a place to suggest moves for the puzzles. i'm finding instances of great puzzle moves on my own and from comments by others.> Open up your own forum for discussion. |
|
| Feb-05-18 | | heuristic: <WinKing: open up your own forum> 1. based on the most recent updates (30+ forums); with the exception of bgitw (best games of 2017), the forums are for non-chess discussions. (note that there is NO pointer to this page from the home page. in fact, the yearly game collections are also hard-to-search for) hence, no one would know where to go and frankly, personal forums are of the type "enter at your own risk". 2. the "daily tactical exercises" are in a CG page. i'm simply proposing another CG page, "daily tactical suggestions". it will be updated by users and commented on by CG (appropriate day, magnitude of evaluation function, etc). unlike the archive, it should probably be open to everyone. 3. btw, I don't participate in the bookie/predication activities. Regardless, I am aware that your forum is for something like that. I think you are doing great work that is appreciated by many. HTH! |

See for yourself = AlphaZero vs Stockfish, 2017 This is the first edition where the ignore feature was required to protect juniors and students from repeat offenders. |

| Feb-07-18 | | gokusano: Why cg allows banning of some kibitzers at wesley so page? The rule here is to talk about the player and hence banning a poster is a ridiculous idea. |

 | | saffuna: Players have always been able to delete posts on their own player page, and it's easy to understand why. There's no reason for them to see offensive remarks (not just critical, offensive) directed at them. Remember, Susan Polgar, an unquestionably valuable contributor, left the site because of the abuse directed toward her. (Specifically, a couple of posters insisted on referring to her Mrs. Truong, despite her repeated requests to be addressed as Susan Polgar.) Without this privilege we would have fewer titled players posting here. And we all would lose. Sure, a player can abuse this privilege, but what better solution is there? Wesley So banned me from his page. It was his right, and I have no objection. |

 | | tpstar: <Why cg allows banning of some kibitzers at wesley so page? The rule here is to talk about the player and hence banning a poster is a ridiculous idea.> A better idea is banning posters from this site if they sabotage the Wikipedia entry. The pro-Wesley/anti-Wesley split went down in May 2015, and no, we are not going to redo it all over again from the top. Move on and leave Wesley alone. Brother. |

 | | chessgames.com: All players who receive administrative powers are told to review this document first: <Congratulations on having a page in the Chessgames.com database dedicated to your chess games. That puts you in a small group of elite chessplayers worldwide! As such, you are entitled to enjoy certain editorial controls over your page. This manual will outline these controls and how to use them. http://www.chessgames.com/selfadmin...> Of special interest is the disclaimer at the bottom which states the limitations of this resource: <Chessgames Services LLC (a Florida company) reserves the right to administer all pages on its web site, including the page dedicated to your chess games, as it sees fit. This includes the right to override any administrative decisions that you make, and the possibility of revoking your administrative powers. The intended purpose of the Self-Administration feature is to allow certain users to exercise editorial control over the discussions on their player page, but not to terminate the on-topic discussion entirely, nor to prevent normal discussion.> So in the worst case, a player gets drunk with power, and we intervene. |
