chancho: I'm guessing they see you as a hero. 😉

Could be Jess.

She's good people.

Aug-10-18  zanzibar: <MrMelad> of course, but deep inside you know you want to!

Hope you do all the incremental updates too, especially to preserve this unique period of <CG>, when the true colors of all of us, fellow <CG> members, are revealed.

Aug-10-18  MrMelad: <I'm guessing they see you as a hero> Please don't... The piss can go straight to my head :)
Aug-10-18  MrMelad: <Hope you do all the incremental updates too, especially to preserve this unique period of <CG>, when the true colors of all of us, fellow <CG> members, are revealed.>

What you are suggesting may be a burden on the servers. I don't think I will do that periodically. Surely in few weeks the crisis will be over and this site will forever live on as a genuine monument for chess analysis, history and culture.

Aug-10-18  zanzibar: <MrMelad> well, if I can be serious for a moment...

This period is the most likely to be lost, since none of it is going to be preserved on the Wayback.

As for concerns about server load, you already tasked the machines maximally, I doubt if incremental burdening would be significant.

Plus you really only need to focus on a few critical forums to preserve the bulk of the insanity.

OK, thanks.

Aug-10-18  JimNorCal: <zanzibar>: <JNC> chessgames.com chessforum (kibitz #29956) "Locked out" makes no sense.

My apologies if my comment was nonsensical. I understood it to be the case that users could be locked out by admins, for example, if they violated posting policy. If a user could be locked out, then <Sargon> could theoretically be locked out. And perhaps have his admin privs revoked. (I understand this would run counter to your feelings of WHO should be locked out but that is an entirely different topic).

This speculation would explain some things and open other mysteries. I believe this has a low probability of being the case. I think there is a post (from AnnieK?) that things will start happening "soon", perhaps even in a day or two.

Aug-10-18  MrMelad: <zanzibar> thanks for the suggestion, I will consider fetching some pages frequently.
Aug-10-18  Caissanist: I think the thread between Annie and zanzibar and MrMelad illustrates why Daniel Freeman was right to set up the <Sneaky> sock puppet account for the purpose of goofing around! I sincerely hope that any users who wind up taking on admin responsibilities in the future do the same thing so that if a message comes, say, from <zanzibar all business>, we'll know to take that 100% literally.

Gleefull remarks about censoring other cg.com members is your idea of fun?

IMO your posts should be scrubbed, as that kind of "entertainment" is really just cyber bullying.

Aug-10-18  thegoodanarchist: <MrMelad: - no, I will not delete a single letter from the archive, regardless of how I feel about the poster writing it.>

Reason and a calm head prevail, thankfully.

Aug-10-18  Big Pawn: <Annie K.: <zanzibar: <I understand that <Sargon> intentd to scrub all of <Bippy>'s posts (after refunding the 17¢ remaining on his balance).>> Nobody said anything like that. No deliberate disinformation please. >

***TRIGGERED***

<MrMelad: <thegoodanarchist>, <jith1207>, < Check It Out> I appreciate your comments, thank you. <zanzibar: <MrMelad> I'll give you $10 if you strip out all of <Bippy Pawns> turds from your archive.>

Though you named me in your post I'm pretty sure it was not really addressed to me but still I will answer seriously - no, I will not delete a single letter from the archive, regardless of how I feel about the poster writing it.>

Zanzibar has been rebuked.

Sargon: This is a duplicate of a post from the player page of Daniel Freeman.

Settle down everyone, especially the <juveniles> and <haters>. Things will be returning to a sense of normalcy very soon, hopefully the bulk of it over this weekend. Chessgames.com was <Dan's> baby and his labor of love. Nobody else, including myself, knew 10% of what he knew about the daily operations. Additionally, there are legal, commercial, and familial considerations to be addressed.

I didn't even get access to the backlog of chessgames emails until very recently. Anyone who is impatient should try to control their impulses.

I'm not going to waste <any> time reviewing gratuitous moaning and groaning, but I can safely say that <anyone> who uses this tragic period as an opportunity to abuse their posting privileges is going to get <hammered> sooner or later, in addition to becoming ignominious in this community.

I apologize for any delays in addressing the <plethora of issues> which have arisen and will continue to emerge, but, once again, somebody f-cking <died> who was essentially the sole creator, developer, and administrator of this entire site and community for <15+ years>. Oh, and, believe it or not, there have been more important things I've had to do over the last 10 days.

So <everyone> take a chill pill. And <step off> if you're unwilling to show respect for the dead and display a tad more patience...

WannaBe: <Sargon> Big, Big, Big, thumbs up!
Aug-10-18  jith1207: <Zanzibar>: do you realize now comparing this situation to Costa Concordia was really unfair? People were in danger of losing their lives in a matter of seconds there, for one reason. And, as daunting the task could be here for <Sargon> to take over this site with very little knowledge of daily activities without any documentation or transition, I'm sure he's the most capable of doing it at this point. Patience is a virtue, and we need to learn.
Aug-10-18  Tiggler: I blew the whistle on <Sargon> for this f-bomb:

<somebody f-cking <died> >

which is contrary to posting guidelines.

I don't suppose he will become ignominious in this community for that reason, however. Maybe for other failings.

Aug-10-18  zanzibar: <jith1207> I don't think it was so unfair - it was an analogy, so not literal. Others were comparing it to the Titanic.

Let's not debate this too much, but I feel <Sargon> could have damped the chaos down 10x by just doing a follow-up, say within the first week. It would have taken all of 5 seconds.

Someone has f.... died. A lot of people are in despaire and you find this an opportune time to point your finger outwards.

Addressing this community of conserned people has been so far down your list of priorities that all the support and consolation you have to offer is a hammer. I'm not doubting your grief, but please don't doubt ours. One single line could have done miracles but no. Not one line before this turd of a response.

I have never (to my knowledge) broken any posting guidelines, but this self-righteous post makes me want to see the hammer.

Aug-11-18  jith1207: Are you guys serious?

Looks like this website's biggest challenge is yet to come. It is from respected users, who don't feel like they are being treated with respect. It's from the long time users who could not take time to understand the context of <Sargon's> post, given the unruliness that have taken over Daniel's player page.

Note that <Sargon> started with the context, "this is a duplicate post from player page of Daniel Freeman". Understand the context, understand it was meant to the circus going on there.

Aug-11-18  nok: <Addressing this community of conserned people has been so far down your list of priorities that all the support and consolation you have to offer is a hammer.>

Does the guy even play chess? Most of the posts I've seen are one-liners about database glitches.
