 | | chessgames.com: On another subject somebody submitted this highly suspicious game: Tartakower vs Schiffers, 1904 After a little research we found this look-alike NN vs Burn, 1866. The handling of the White pieces is more reminiscent of the style of NN than that of Tartakower, wouldn't you all agree? Unless somebody knows otherwise we'll assume the new submission is a misattribution and delete it. |

 | | tpstar: ChessBase 8.0 doesn't have any Tartakower games before 1905, and neither does your database, while Schiffers died in 1904, so it looks like a spurious duplicate. Maybe the Russian beauties want us to find them in the Sandbox. =) |

However, <chessgames.com> is right: I don't mind being called a Russian beauty. The only difference is that I amn't trying to find a date online... :-) |

I see this is your first post here, and what's more as a fully paid up premium member. Welcome! Here's your player page, on the small chance you haven't seen it: Natalia Pogonina Hope you come to this site more often, especially as a commentator in some of the live games this site features. |

| Sep-13-09 | | Karpova: <chessgames.com>
I think you could allow people to see the latest kibitzing on the World vs Umansky game when moving the mouse pointer over it at the "recent kibitzing" bar. It ceased to be useful after the game ended. |

| Sep-14-09 | | who: "I don't think <who> is complaining about Pogonina, but about www.russianeuro.com"
That is correct.
"If anybody is offended or concerned about that ad, we would be happy to take it out of the rotation."
I'd prefer it out of the rotation.
Btw, welcome to Natalia Pogonina. |

 | | chessgames.com: <I'd prefer it out of the rotation.> No problem, we'll do that shortly.
<Karpova> Agreed, that was supposed to be temporary.
<Btw, welcome to Natalia Pogonina.> Agreed all around! |

In the drop-down menu player <Mecking> is linked to Peter Mecking but it should be Henrique Mecking. You answered a day later, but for Mecking the problem still exists. :D |

 | | chessgames.com: Can a biography editor go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boris_... and get a short bio of Boris Kreiman? The reason we ask is that he enjoys chessgames (aside from the occasional troll) and is interested in getting the free membership that we extend to grandmasters, and of course he deserves a better bio than just the single word "Grandmaster." The fact that he founded the Kreiman Chess Academy in Los Angeles makes him a prominent grandmaster for that reason alone, and needless to say, we can never have enough GMs in our ranks. So if somebody can please fill in that gap, we thank you in advance. |

 | | Tabanus: Hi chessgames.com,
about a month ago I suggested via the Error Correction Form the games of Fro Jaeger and Es Forsaa to be merged with Frode Bull Jaeger and Espen Forsaa, respectively. How long time do such normally or maximally take to be answered or corrected? I have no idea how many suggestions (via the Error Correction Form) you get in one day or month. If I could be sure that my suggestions were (in some way) followed up I would probably use the form more often. Moreover, after a while I forget if I used the form or not. Perhaps it would be possible to make a <# indicates error correction form used> (to be displayed on the user's site only?), similar to the <* indicates a reply to the comment>? Tough questions, I know :) |

| Sep-16-09 | | achieve: <chessgames> Here is the download link for the games at the closed Dutch Championship, in progress now. Few big names, but Giri, good old Nijboer, Ernst, and several others are participating (Tiviakov withdrew after round 3). http://nk.schaakbond.nl/download
Could you upload them?
And a question in general: Is my notification here at all necessary, i.e., do you have a policy (what I would find logical in terms of less workload/mouseclicks on your part) to upload games from national championships, like the dutch, automatically <after> the tournament has finished? Thanks. |

 | | chessgames.com: A few things:
<Kreiman's Bio>
First whomever it was that made the bio for Kreiman: that was an immaculate job, couldn't be better. Thanks. <Database Corrections> Second, on the subject of database corrections, the system is currently pell-mell. For those interesting in the inner-workings: when you submit a correction a file is created in a directory which we call "a correction slip". When an administrator sets to the job of fixing slips he can sort the list by many things, e.g. by player name, or by year, or by who submitted the correction, but the one way he cannot sort it is by who's been waiting the longest. Therefore there is no "first come first serve" policy here--it's total chaos. If you make a correction slip it might be tended to in 15 minutes or it might take 15 months. Needless to say this system could be improved, but on a positive note, we can promise absolutely that no slips get deleted without an admin tackling the problem first. Correction notices may pile up to the ceiling, but they never "slip through the cracks." <New Games>
Third, achieve asked, <Is my notification here at all necessary, i.e., do you have a policy ... to upload games from national championships ... automatically <after> the tournament has finished?> Absolutely we would always get it after it finishes, but telling us before or even during the event is sometimes quite useful. If you want to make a special request that we cover it on a daily basis, and assuming the main web site is putting out quality PGN daily, then it's a totally reasonable request and we don't want to discourage people from doing that. However, once the event is over the wheels start turning to get the games on our site. In the worst possible scenario it would be a tournament we didn't even know existed, and then in about 6 months we'd go to a source like The Week in Chess and download everything that we've missed in the past few months. You see, twice a year we "resynchronize" our database with the other large online ones. It's no secret that we often rely heavily on The Week in Chess (http://www.chesscenter.com/twic/twi...) because its webmaster Mark Crowther takes the accuracy of his work very seriously. We are not affiliated with The Week in Chess in any way, but we really can't say enough good things about that website. |

 | | Phony Benoni: <Hesam7> Alternative scores, not quite identical. Moves 13 and 14 are switched in the two scores, plus Black's 30th and White's 49th moves are different. The final effect is the same, however. |

| Sep-17-09 | | dabearsrock1010: <Chessgames.com> I emailed but unfortunately got no response. I recently purchased a macbook pro and the chess boards are not running correctly. They get all funky and choppy. Do you have any solutions to this? Thanks in advance to you guys, and to any bystanders who may be able to help. |

| Sep-17-09 | | Open Defence: <chessgames.com> I keep getting that malformed url exception and what I have found if I view the PGN text and then click the back button on the browser it then works... earlier I had tested my browser and java at <CVDs> pages and they all worked fine.. so maybe its a problem with how the PGN file is retrieved in the viewer at this site ? |
