chessgames.com: We're trying to make Chessbase jealous by demonstrating how we can make the number of views on their youtube video skyrocket. So if anybody is of the mind to do us a favor, go watch Nigel's new DVD promo... twice.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07tw...

Apr-24-10  Open Defence: chessgames.com ever thought of having a chess video section of the site ? maybe GMs Keene, Short and Dr Schiller could contribute, Kingcrusher could too...

maybe you could call it http://www.euwetube.com ?

chessgames.com: <euwetube> Haha, brilliantly witty. In fact, yes--we have considered a video feature--it's more a question of "when" than of "if".
Apr-24-10  ganstaman: <chessgames.com: <Ending Explorer Bugs> Give us a little bit of time. The whole reason why we're in this mess is that months ago somebody pointed out a rarely seen bug, and in fixing it hastily we created a commonly seen bug.>

Who was it? Which member is secretly tearing down cg.com by making 'suggestions?' We'll round up the mob and get justice for you!

Apr-24-10  notyetagm: <CG.COM> Please create a forum for the <9th Asian Continental (Indivdiual) Chess Championship>.

Apr-28-10  Blunderdome: Forum for the women's event in Nalchik?
Apr-28-10  Pyke: <Chessgames.com> I do not know if this has been mentioned before, but:

When watching a game live the <Facorites-Mode> does not seem to function properly. E.G. when you turn it on it only stays turned on until the next refresh.

But of course, this is only a minor problem. You guys are doing a great job on relaying the World Championship and have once again hired a witty and competent commentator.

chessgames.com: <Pyke> Yes we know about that. Favorites mode has always been intended to be a temporary switch that you throw; we designed it that way to prevent people from accidentally turning on favorites mode and wondering why Chessgames turned into a ghost-town. With the live game page it becomes especially sensitive because the mode gets disabled upon every refresh. Ideally it could retain that mode so if you want to watch the game in favorites mode (e.g. only reading Nigel's comments) you could.

<Other events> We do realize that there is more going on in the world of chess than the match in Bulgaria, so we'll be adding new tournaments before round 5 on Friday.

Apr-28-10  Billy Vaughan: Hi Chessgames, on Anand-Topalov World Chess Championship (2010) the "match standings" appear as 3/5 for Anand and 2/5 for Topalov. It seems like your software already counts the unplayed fifth game as a draw.

Keep up the good coverage!

Apr-28-10  Pyke: <Chessgames.com> Thanks for that prompt answer.
Apr-29-10  Blunderdome: Also, the President's Cup...
Apr-30-10  radu stancu: User: Bobby Fiske and User: WhiteKnight64 were discussing in Topalov vs Anand, 2010 the fact that they have the same avatar. Apparently it has been submitted/included twice in the avatar list. Could you perhaps talk to them and clear the confusion or define your position on this? Thanks.
Apr-30-10  radu stancu: As <WhiteKnight> changed his avatar, here are the two similar images:

May-01-10  Caissanist: Nice quote from Jeremy Silman (via Chancho), perhaps it could be a QOTD sometime:

<"If your opponent cannot do anything active, then don't rush the position; instead you should let him sit there, suffer, and beg you for a draw">

May-02-10  ganstaman: <cg.com> Not sure if this member or any other told you yet, but: Hans Berliner

In the opening explorer thing for Hans Berliner with the white pieces, it lists 1. e5 as having been played 30 times, while 1. e4 was played twice. But unless he's really good at cheating, he probably didn't ever play 1. e5 as the first white move.

This issue did not show up on Lev Aronian's page, which I used just to make sure this wasn't a global issue.

chessgames.com: <In the opening explorer thing for Hans Berliner with the white pieces, it lists 1. e5 as having been played 30 times> Recently some games slipped through with pawn and move odds that started "1. e5 2.e4" etc. This caused great chaos, but once the games were identified and purged everything went back to normal. Thanks for keeping an eye out.

<Also> The Ending Explorer is mostly functional now; we can't say it works in the general case but the obvious problem of not being able to scroll through the list is fixed in all the cases we've tested.

May-10-10  whiteshark: <chessgames.com> Abt 7 months ago we have had the following dialogue:

Oct-14-09
<whiteshark: <chessgames.com> Did I miss the announcement who will play <The World> the next time and when the game will start?>

Oct-15-09
<<whiteshark> Sorry, we haven't made an announcement yet. We are actively finding the next challenger. We'd love to introduce a name you know from the OTB tournaments--somebody like Ivanchuk, Leko, et al, but it's hard to get these players to commit to games that can last so long, due to their very frenetic schedules. The next Chessgames Challenge may very well be a rematch between an opponent you've already played, and there's nothing wrong with that.>

Any updates ???
