 | | chessgames.com: ♔ ANNOUNCEMENT ♔
Chessgames is now compatibile with the new Apple iPad, the first of several steps to become fully compatible with mobile devices. <iPad users> If you have an iPad and connect to any game page (the Game of the Day, games from search results, etc.) it will automatically invoke a javascript program to allow you to step through the game. You'll notice a button in the middle which has a plus (+) on it, that's the autoplay controller--press it to flip through the game in hands free mode, at the rate of 2.5 seconds per move. Press it again to turn off autoplay. There are many other features but the documentation probably won't be available until we leave beta-test mode. While we're in beta-test mode, if any iPad user finds a game which doesn't work with the new javascript player, crashes the browser, or just is downright buggy, please let us know about it by either posting here or by emailing chess@chessgames.com. <iPhone users> Once we get the bugs out of the iPad version we are going to make a smaller version of the same program to support iPhone users. For now, iPhones don't work, but hang on--it's coming next. <Blackberry users> Once that works the next step will be to offer Blackberry support. We also plan on making some "mini apps" that will wokr in the small Blackberry window, while being available to web users in the form of a tiny pop-up window. One such app will be a "random chess puzzle" game. <Credits> The javascript software that we are using is a customized version of a GNU public license program called "pgn4web", which in turn is a customized version of "LT Chess". We thank everybody involved in those products to help us prepare this compatibility fix, and intend on giving full credits once we get our of beta-test mode. |

| Jun-15-10 | | malthrope: <CG.com> - just a couple of items of 'note' and minor fixes needed... :) Thanks (I'm adding to <achieve> and <Stonehenge> previous request made for these tourney links) for adding the <"Dutch Championships (Men & Women) 2010."> The Men's Championship tourney link works just fine. :) Dutch Championship (2010) However, the Women's section needs to have the URL link address corrected like so: Dutch Championship (Women) (2010) Your posted tourney link takes you right back to the Men's Championship section (again). The Women's section also requires a standard 'Kibitzer's Corner' section added to it (as none exist at the moment). :( Finally, while we are adding Chess tournaments of 'note' surely you've overlooked this one... ______________________________________
<"The 45th Capablanca Memorial (June 9th-22nd) in Havana, Cuba. Chucky returns to this long running Chess event that he's won 3 times in a row during the years 2005-07. He'll be playing along with Dominguez, Alekseev, Nepomniatchi, Short & Bruzon. A double round-robin with an interesting mix of players should guarantee to be lots of fun! Official website: http://torneocapablanca.inder.cu/ Notes: Games start at 3 PM EDT and the 'live' games link changes each day. Just click on <<'....ver'>> for each announced round (left frame) and it takes you right there (hopefully!). ;)"> ______________________________________
We have been using GM Vassily Ivanchuk and GM Nigel Short player's & bio pages up to now to publish current news, games and updates, etc. The info above for the <'Capa Memorial'> is taken directly from my <Current Chess Events> 'June' calendar published in my Profile. ;) Thanks in advance for your attention in these important matters. :D My Best, - Mal |

 | | chessgames.com: <Edwin M: And again i would like to ask the same question; Say my subscription expires and i wait for like a month to subscribe again, will profile data like my Guess-the-Move recordings be lost?> Edwin, sorry for the delay in answering you. The happy answer is "no, your profile data will not be lost." There are a few tiny things that can be lost, it would be easier to explain what might be lost than what won't be lost: 1. Your avatar will go back to the gallery, so somebody MIGHT pick it (or might not -- it's out of our control). If you are really attached to your avatar you should make sure you don't let your account expire. 2. Your chessforum will flip from "visible" to "invisible", however ALL OF THE MESSAGES ARE INTACT. Once you become premium again you can flip it back on and all the messages will instantly reappear. You will have to manually re-enable your chessforum, it won't do it automatically when you return to premium status. 3. All of your game collections will be untouched even if they go over non-premium limits, e.g. a non-premium member is cut-off at 101 games but if you have one with 400 games then you can keep it. However you will not be able to add new games to this collection until you are premium again. Things that will NOT change include:
1. If you are a member of team-vs-team game (Battle of the Brains etc.) your team affiliation will not be lost and in fact you can continue playing out whatever game you started while premium. Of course you won't be able to start a new one while non-premium, but nobody ever gets booted out of a game in progress. 2. Your Guess-the-Move scores will be remembered, although you won't even be able to get to the screen that displays them. But once you are premium again everything will be right where you left off. 3. Your friends-list will not change, although some of the more advanced features like My Favorites Page will not work until you become premium again. 4. Ignore lists have nothing to do with premium status and will remain unaltered. In the past we've remarked that if somebody left our site for a very long time (several years) that for storage purposes we may be inclined to delete old data like Guess-the-Move scores and chessforum posts. However in practice we've never done this even once--we have no problem with archiving this data for many years just on the off chance than an old customer returns. As storage devices continue to drop in price I expect we will maintain that policy for a long time to come. Hope you find that answer a satisfactory one! |

| Jun-16-10 | | Waitaka: <CG> I was very happy to see that the board of todays daily puzzle worked on my iPhone, that I came here to share my hapyness. Once here I read that it would only work on iPad, not iPhone... So, I went to check the game of the day, and... my iPhone worked well there too! Thanks for the improovement! (I am using iPhone 3G, 3.1.3, brazilian portuguese). |

 | | WannaBe: What happened to the delux chess viewer??? I got this message: <Robert James Fischer vs Svetozar Gligoric

Bled ct 1959 · Sicilian Defense: Classical Variation. General (B57) · 1-0
*** ERROR: CHESS VIEWER () IS NOT DEFINED ***> And I have not done any updates to any of my Windows components, or JRE, or Java SDK, or anything!!!!! Actually, I am still running Windows DOS!! |
|

|
| Jun-18-10 | | crawfb5: Something's gone wrong with Chess Viewer Deluxe, as others have pointed out. It's not your (or my) Java or anything else, as the <other> viewers (sjkbase, MistyBeach, and MyChess) work fine. Chess Tutor and Chess Viewer Deluxe (the default many of us use) <are> broken, however. CG will have to fix it. In the meantime, you can temporarily switch to one of the other viewers and switch back once it's fixed. |

|
| Jun-18-10 | | Ulhumbrus: <chessgames.com> I am getting still the following message: <*** ERROR: CHESS VIEWER (chesstutor) IS NOT DEFINED ***> What is going on? |
|
| Jun-18-10 | | Ulhumbrus: <chessgames.com> the <chess viewer deluxe> java viewer appears to work now, while if I try to select the <chess tutor> java viewer, I receive the same message as before, <*** ERROR: CHESS VIEWER (chesstutor) IS NOT DEFINED ***> |
|
Jun-19-10
 | | chessgames.com: People actually use chesstutor???
Just kidding -- try it again, everything is OK now. You'll also note that "pgn4web (Javascript)" is now an option that anybody can use (not just iPad/iPhone users). It's not as feature rich as the other Java viewers but it is very lightweight--a perfect solution for people who have difficulties getting Java working on their computer. |
