 | | Phony Benoni: <WannaBe> My impression is that the portion you search for has to be, as the math guys say, "sufficiently large". Say as close to 3000 as possible. But I haven't got time for testing. I'm busy using this thing before they fix it. |

 | | WannaBe: <Phony Benoni> Did you know, in the ECO entry, you can put int A10-A12? If you put in the Sicilian numbers, it will return number of games too large, please narrow down your search. p.s. try this one: A00-A99 :-)) |

 | | Phony Benoni: <WannaBe> That trick I knew. I just wish it could be adapted for use with years as well. There are times when it would be very useful to search a span of years. |

 | | Stonehenge: <CG> -There are games from an under 8 Ch. in the database (Yaroslav Viktorov amongst others). Shouldn't they be deleted?
-Any chance of uploading the games I have in the queue? It's been more than five weeks since last time. But perhaps there are others who have been waiting even longer :) |

 | | kingscrusher: Hi Chessgames.com
This is probably a silly question, but can game collections have the kibitzing facility. E.g. the following collection: Game Collection: 1967 - 2: Beat Bobby Fischer Contest! I would have liked to have kibitzed this relevant video link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fzGp... Best wishes

| Nov-15-11 | | hms123: <chessgames> Have you done something to the format of <New Kibitzing> page? Recent Kibitzing Page It seems oddly spread out on the page in a way that the <chessforums> page is not. I use Google Chrome, but I noticed this on my iPad this morning as well. Thanks. |

| Nov-15-11 | | hms123: <cg> could this post: Ullrich Krause be the problem? It looks fine on the player page but odd on the <kibitzing> page. |

Be nice if all of the "off-topic" stupidity could be removed, especially the blatant attacks & stalker junk. BTW, feel free to remove any of my comments as well. |

 | | Phony Benoni: <Kingcrusher> <I play the Fred> Kibitzing game collections has been suggested in the past. Here's a response from Mar-02-09: <Phony Benoni: Two probably impossible dreams: 1) Kibitzing on game collection pages.> "Not impossible, but it creates all sorts of complications. For example, what if a collection is kibitzed upon 10,000 times and then the owner deletes the collection? Also, what if people try to use it as a way to create pages for political/religious/etc. topics? Not many people have asked for it, and it's tricky, so we're not big on the idea." Great minds, same channels, and all that. But with the complaints recently about deleted kibitzes in forums, I doubt this view has changed. |

| Nov-15-11 | | I play the Fred: <Not impossible, but it creates all sorts of complications. For example, what if a collection is kibitzed upon 10,000 times and then the owner deletes the collection?> Okay then, how about this? <Chessgames> implements a monthly feature, a <Collection of the Month> feature. When that collection is selected, it remains a <permanent> part of the site, with the name of the compiler permanently attached to it. And every <Collection of the Month> can be kibitzed, whereas regular collections can be deleted or altered and have no kibitzing. Since <chessgames> has said that they are planning to make pages for historically significant events of the past (Hastings 1895, AVRO 1938, Zurich 1953, etc), this would be a good way to merge the two ideas and give credit to those who have done such excellent work in compiling them. |

 | | Domdaniel: What <kingscrusher> asked for was a place to put a YouTube link rather than a kibitzing or discussion space per se. I can think of several places where such a link could go, without any need for a kibitzing function. One's own bio/profile, and the relevant game or player page(s) are the obvious places to post such free adverts. Lots of people do it, though it may be a grey area with regard to posting guideline #2. |
|
| Nov-15-11 | | crawfb5: <I play the Fred> Not a bad idea, but the inability to edit the collection without the aid of an admin who probably already has too much to do would be a drawback. One thing you discover from writing introductions to game collections is proofreaders and fact checkers you never knew you had. The last such correction I got was somebody reporting some dead hyperlinks in one of my older collections. Not only did they report the broken links, but they were kind enough to provide new links that worked. With full editing control, it was easy to fix. Remember, art is never completed, only abandoned... |

 | | kingscrusher: Thanks for the initial comments guys.
Also another idea regarding Game collections - I think it would be cool to have a Chessgames.com own "like" by each game entry in a collection.. In this way members could "like" particular games in a game collection which might draw attention to a particularly spectacular or brilliant game. Maybe you could also see which members liked a particular game as well as the number of likes. This might also give game collectors a better idea of what is "liked" generally by others as well as themselves. |

| Nov-16-11 | | LIFE Master AJ: I think this is long past due ... start enforcing the third guideline ... and perhaps penalties for those who refuse to adhere to it. |

 | | chessgames.com: <hms123: <chessgames> Have you done something to the format of <New Kibitzing> page? Recent Kibitzing Page - Tt seems oddly spread out on the page in a way that the <chessforums> page is not.> Once in a great while somebody figures out a way to break the page formatting. And they don't bother to preview before they post. Nor do they look at what they just posted once it's online. We know that it's not done out of malice, but it's our policy to delete posts like that on sight. <This is probably a silly question, but can game collections have the kibitzing facility.> That's one of those ideas that sounds great in principle, but the more you think about it, the more you realize it's a real can of worms. Remember, whomever starts a Game Collection will the eternal god of that page: they will be able to delete any post from it, or the entire collection if they please. Just look at the stir caused recently when somebody deleted messages from their chessforum; the game collection aspect might be 100 times worse. There is also the concern that people create game collections just for the sake of starting a discussion, especially a distasteful discussion. As things stand we give one "special" forum to each premium user, which is great, but giving each member an infinite bucket of forums? Fred's <Collection of the Month> is an interesting idea but rather complicated. <LIFE Master AJ> Please do not repost material here that you find offensive. <Stonehenge: There are games from an under 8 Ch. in the database (Yaroslav Viktorov amongst others). Shouldn't they be deleted?> Yes. We just stuck our dog on that tournament (a program that removes fishy games). Ironically, comments like <Chris C: What the heck is this?> preserve the game so the software doesn't touch it. I'll manually delete the ones I see are junk. <Any chance of uploading the games I have in the queue? It's been more than five weeks since last time.> I'm so sorry, to be perfectly honest you and another user have such big files at this point we've been dreading the labor of processing them. We'll get to them soon. |
|
| Nov-16-11 | | LIFE Master AJ: Thansk for the answer - I guess I have to resort to retaliation if its not going to be removed ...
maybe if the page gets bad enough, you will be forced to take action ... |
|
| Nov-16-11 | | LIFE Master AJ: On another note - see my forum - I just resubmitted a game. (Nvereov-Chahrour) I also submitted it (the first time) like six months ago. #1.) Its NOT in your DB, I have looked several times. #2.) Its NOT a duplicate of any other game.
#3.) White is 2500+.
#4.) Its the most forceful example of 6.Qb3 that I can find anywhere. Any reason that you are not going to post this game ... or that it has not been posted already? |

 | | kingscrusher: Chessgames.com - Good point
I really do appreciate this, and would be too scared to do what you have done on my own site with regard to members having their own forum. It is the moderation aspect which scares me a lot. But what if you had a "friends" facility - and only let "friends" comment on your Collection - could that get all the benefits of more interactivity with a collection without the downsides ?! |
|
Nov-16-11
 | | kingscrusher: Actually you are right even with the Friends concept - it could still be open to abuse. I am convinced for your argument even if friends were allowed to post. It is like adding more forums per user. Good points. Thanks - it is important to understand the potential for abuse for these message related feature ideas. |

Nov-16-11
 | | Domdaniel: There's an Ibrahim Chahrour from Libya, currently rated 1967, who might be the Black player in AJ's mystery game. White sounds like a mangled version of Neverov. Spelling and/or player ID might contribute to the non-appearance of submitted games. It helps greatly if both players are already in the database, and you include their id numbers with the upload. |
|
| Nov-16-11 | | TheFocus: <Domdaniel>< What <kingscrusher> asked for was a place to put a YouTube link rather than a kibitzing or discussion space per se.> I think this is an excellent idea, placing a link to a game in someone's collections, if the owner wishes to do so. <Kingcrusher> Here's an idea. In the description section of a collection, the owner could provide links to videos. You could drop in and say, "Hey, I did a video on the game "Fischer - Geller 1967." Owner then could provide a link, something we could easily do. Your videos are excellent and I see no problem with inserting a link. |
|
Nov-16-11
 | | kingscrusher: <TheFocus:> The idea of "Youtubing" game collections could be good because there is an increasing amount of Youtube annotated games each day. So maybe a collection owner could be allowed to "approve/reject" Youtube links submittd to a particular game collection?! The links might be footage - or even the players sometimes themselves are annotating their games in the post-commentary rooms of Tournaments nowadays, and that ends up on Youtube. Just the infusion of Youtube links may bypass the scope of contentious controversial posts, and might add value to a game collection. That Fischer video was quite interesting for the related collection: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fzGp...
The collection of games supports the video and vice-versa. This video wasn't done by me btw. |
