WannaBe: Not sure if this is a 'big deal' or not, but after 44...Rb1 Carlsen-Aronian game from London, the 'Live Chess' ad/notification on the front page is already gone.

Obviously, the game is still in progress. =)

Phony Benoni: <chessgames.com> When nominating a collection, changing <Scoreboard Style> to "List of Names" doesn't change anything; the nominated collection will still have "Leaderboard."
Dec-03-12  Blunderdome: Most WC pages have a graphic showing game-by-game results, so you can see who led at different moments, as well as three notable games (based on appearances in game collections). Why not add notable games to the new tournament pages?

Also, I noticed the above feature is missing from some World Championship pages, including '08.

I think it should work now. If there is a tournament that got that field mangled let us know and we can edit it.

jessicafischerqueen: Hello! I nominated this historical Tournament Collection yesterday, and today it has been "promoted," but it's in the wrong layout.

I definitely had the "Leaderboard" layout checked, but as you can see the tournament is not in fact in this format:

Kemeri (1937)

I just submitted a correction slip requesting the format be changed to "Leaderboard" layout, but would you please look in to the terrible possibility that there is a bug in the promotion code?

I've nominated a dozen or more Tournament Collections this past week that have been promoted no problem to the "Leaderboard style."

jessicafischerqueen: <Daniel> I suspect something is awry because you have added a default country code?

I just nominated this collection: Game Collection: Amsterdam 1920.

I noticed that you have a new feature= there was a default three letter country code in the site field- in this case (NED).

I carefully typed in "Amsterdam (NED)" in the site field.

Then I carefully made sure the default "Leaderboard" layout was checked. It was.

However, now look what has happened to the collection: It says

<Amsterdam (1920)
created by suenteus po 147 | nominated by jessicafischerqueen on 12-05-2012

Site: Amsterdam (NED)
<<<Scoreboard: List of names>>> Include intro: Y

YOUR VOTE:
AYE NAY (optional comment)

ALL VOTES:
AYE jessicafischerqueen: There was a new "default" country designation in the site field>

Note that the "List of Names" layout has been selected even though I just very carefully made sure the "Leaderboard" default had been selected before nominating.

Would you please look in to this as soon as possible? It would be great if you would fix the <Kemeri 1937> tournament as well, when you fix the new bug.

Thanks, and best regards,
JFQ

Annie K.: Hmm. In a pinch, manually adding &crosstable=1 to the end of the URL still works, but that's not really a solution of course.

<cg> I was wondering about another thing WRT tournaments: would it be possible to make it visually easier to discern which games belong to which round (now that games are usually in the right order)? I'm thinking along the lines of how the games are on alternating background colors; some kind of alternating design to divide the blocks of games belonging to each round from each other. Whaddayathink? :)

Phony Benoni: Over on the Game Collection voting page, Game Collection: Amsterdam 1920 seems to be stuck in limbo. It's still there despite six AYE votes.

chessgames.com: <Phony> Thanks for the heads-up, read my posts over at the Biographer Bistro. It was a small typo, easy to fix once discovered. The only real surprise is that the specific condition hadn't arisen until now.
Dec-07-12  crawfb5: Something that might be useful at some point would be a downloadable file of games in the database <NOT> in a games collection. I pulled together Game Collection: 1911 New York Masters this week mostly because <Calli> asked over at the Biographer's Bistro if the tournament really was uncollected (being on vacation also helped :-).

A date cutoff could exclude modern games that automatically go into tournament pages. Granted, some games would get excluded for being in a "great sacrifices" collection, but not <all> the games in a tournament would be in a collection. There are various isolated games (simuls, consultations, etc.) and numerous non-championship matches that will show up, but it would help identify which events need some TLC.

Just a thought for the new year perhaps.

chessgames.com: <crawfb5: Something that might be useful at some point would be a downloadable file of games in the database <NOT> in a games collection.> Ohhhh, I see where you're going with that. You can locate dupes or mislocated games that way, or pave the way for a missing tournament. Very clever!
Dec-07-12  TheFocus: <craw> and <Chessgames.com> Could you give us an example here. I am seeing the picture, but it's still a little cloudy around the edges to me. This sounds like a great tool, but I would like to understand it better.

<craw> Could you lay it out?

If I am right, you put the collection together very fast. Faster than I originally thought, but I'm not 100% on how you did it.

Dec-07-12  crawfb5: <The Focus> The suggestion was aimed more at finding uncollected tournaments than finding games for a collection in progress. How I found out we both had collections going on that 1893 NY tournament was by seeing the collection list at the bottom of a game page. For example, J C Halpern vs A Ettlinger, 1893 lists the game as being in both collections (right below the kibitz edit box).

If an older game is in <no> collection, then it's either some kind of stray or it's part of a tournament that might need to be collected. For example, R P Michell vs J A Seitz, 1922 is currently is in no collection.

My idea was to try to make it a little easier to find those uncollected tournaments.

Dec-07-12  TheFocus: I see what you mean.
