| Dec-25-12 | | Blunderdome: <Just take out the really bad apples and you have a winner.> But that's true of the Carlsen page as well ;) I don't think anything good will come of sweeping all our unresolved issues and arguments under one rug. Too much gunpowder in one place. |

| Dec-26-12 | | achieve: For those interested in the potential functionality of the Argue page, I offer you this example, red hot from the Carlsen page, and an added note that I received a compliment <via email> from a very respected senior member of <chessgames.com> for the Argue page initiative. (see quote further below) Argue Excerpt:
[You, frogbert, imo put up only one valid point - a very good one - to counter the criticism, and reading it back now, 4 days or so later, I feel that the criticism was understandible <to say the least> - considering the context - read content - of the posts - read thread - at that time on the page. Now <here> is where the Argue page can come in very handy: I could copy this post, plus all the relevant and referenced posts, to the Argue page - and invite frogbert to - if he so wishes - continue the discussion there, thereby alleviating the Carlsen main page - and offering it to the more current and on topic items - eg the POLL that was being held at the time (about Carlsen's best game(s) and tourney of 2012), and the interesting discussion that <that> provoked.] This is a prime example (one of many, of course) of when and how the Argue page can be put to good use, or, to quote the words of said respected cg-member: <[...] good job on getting the "Argue" page started. I hope it will be a long-term success and help keep some of the nonsense off prominent player pages. Blessed are the peacemakers.> And best wishes to Daniel and all other "admins" for the great work they do, and let's make the year 2013 a good one. Cheers! |

 | | chessgames.com: ♔ ANNOUNCEMENT ♔
By popular demand, Chessgames will this year take over the annual tradition that we call <The Caissars>. For those who don't know, The Caissars are our version of an awards ceremony, where we look back on the previous year and decide the kibitzers, posts, games and players that are the most laudable. We will do our best to keep things similar to what you've been familiar with in previous years, at least in spirit. To this purpose, we've created an account — see The Caissars chessforum. Announcements will be posted to that page and the chessforum will soon open up for posting. |

 | | Phony Benoni: I like to put a question before the Academy before it is swamped with Very Important Business. Some tournaments have too many games to fit into one collection, for example: Game Collection: Munich Chess Olympiad 1936: Pt. 1, Rounds 1-10 Game Collection: Munich Chess Olympiad 1936: Pt. 2, Rounds 11-21 Could there be a way to combine these into one Historical Tournament page? |
|
| Dec-28-12 | | Bobwhoosta: I'd like to second <achieve's> idea of the use of the Argue page. It has already provided a place for at least two "conflicts" or debates between users instead of cluttering up the main player page. Since its inception the Carlsen page has overall been cleaner and more streamlined. If anyone is itching for a debate on a certain topic, simply post on the Argue page, and post back on the page where the "argument" started, and you can while away the hours splitting semantics like pros. And no one gets hurt. It's brilliant!!!
(btw, a quick side note (already addressed on the page itself): This is in no way intended to be the "hurling insults" page, it is simply a way for two people to hash out a debate that is becoming off-topic on the page that it was started) Thanks <achieve> and also <Chessgames> for being such an awesome website!!! I've been here for so long, and it's only getting better to be here!! |

| Dec-29-12 | | fgh: <chessgames.com>: Would it be possible to display more "notable games" by a player? At the moment, a player's profile displays only their 10 most "notable games", but I think a "Show more notable games" link, leading to a page with some 40 games, would be helpful, particularly in the case of famous players. |

| Dec-29-12 | | Tiggler: <chessgames.com> Thank you for hosting the recently completed World vs. Varuzhan Akobian game. I found it very enjoyable and instructive to be a member of our team. Now that the game is over I see that the discussion page is open to all. What about doing the same for the <jepflast> analysis tree? I think many would be astonished by its ~20,000 nodes of posted analysis, not least our esteemed opponent, GM Akobian. |

 | | chessgames.com: <Phony Benoni> <Some tournaments have too many games to fit into one collection, for example: Game Collection: Munich Chess Olympiad 1936: Pt. 1, Rounds 1-10 Game Collection: Munich Chess Olympiad 1936: Pt. 2, Rounds 11-21 Could there be a way to combine these into one Historical Tournament page?> We're going to have to think about this. We're in the middle of making some new admin tools, mostly for the Chessgames Librarian, to have the power to change entire tournament groups of games at once. Once those tools are in place fixing something like this up should be easy. I would say, for the time being just don't nominate these, and we'll revisit the issue in a week or two, OK? |

 | | chessgames.com: <fgh> That's not a bad idea; I've personally wanted to see deeper down that list on occasion. As you say, only for the biggest players would it make sense. |

| Dec-30-12 | | achieve: from the Karpov page:
<Dec-29-12
chessgames.com: Let's please orbit back to the topic of Anatoly Karpov. Thanks. achieve: <CG> Right, just after I explicitly hint towards getting back on topic, chessgames waltzes along saying the same thing. How lame. Remember it is me, together with several others, who have for years now been active to keep the prominent player pages free from spamming, bickering, trolls, and even, with the incomparable <Schwartz>, launched the idea to use the Argue page to exactly that end? - "Keeping the prominent player pages as clean as possible" .... Great timing, Daniel.> And while I'm at it, and didn't sent "another email", but instead posted here is for the reason that you haven't yet replied to an urgent reply email I sent dd. 24-12-12, which is disappointing considering the imo "gravity" of the subject matter. Looking forward to that. I realize you're terribly busy, but still this address and "reminder." And to echoe a remark by Schwartz on the Argue page: Why isn't that page popping up on the homepage to the right, where the recent pages of kibitzing are displayed? |
