| Jan-11-13 | | Jim Bartle: Interesting. It still seems reasonable for posters here to know if they are discussing with five people or one person with five user names. I do not see how that violates anyone's privacy. Actually I'm most interested in posts on the Rogoff page at the moment. |

| Jan-11-13 | | Jim Bartle: Please. How is anyone put in danger from criminals if chessgames reveals that X and Y are actually the same person? I have no objection to using pseudonyms--99% here do--but we should know if one person is using more than one. It's my guess that magnifico, orcafan, tolengoy, iking, magnetoh, tahdah, trollinboy, tohdoh and others are all the same person. It would be nice to know for sure, and I don't see how that violates anybody's privacy. I'm not looking for real names. |

| Jan-11-13 | | magnifico: right to privacy is observed for the protection of individuals...the reason why superheroes like Spiderman, Superman and magnifico would find it imperative to shift into their alter ego when not at work- i.e. Peter Parker and Clark Kent to protect their love ones and kins from the vengeful criminals and and yours truly to protect myself from enraged Magnus fanboys kibitzers out to get even. Spiderman would forsake love in favor of community service...saying with great power comes great responsibilities. AJ should should have known better and should have maintained a secret identity too...he could have avoided the stalkers early on. |

 | | WannaBe: Funniest post of 2013. By far. |

Jan-11-13
 | | Annie K.: <WannaBe> yeah - I'd be tempted to nominate him too, but he'll be at least 20 usernames down the road by then. Oh well. <Jim> stop feeding, he's gonna explode, please stop feeding! ;s Srsly, hilarious as he is, this isn't the place. :) |

| Jan-11-13 | | Jim Bartle: Seven people plus AJ were suspended for a week and then returned with their same user names. I haven't seen any metamorphosis. And the AJ wars have really died down. |

| Jan-11-13 | | magnifico: < It would be nice to know for sure, and I don't see how that violates anybody's privacy. I'm not looking for real names.> It's for the poster (i.e. not for CG)to decide .

Jan-11-13
 | | jessicafischerqueen: Hello!
Would you please help me with this?
On the front page search box, search term <Vladimir Petrov> gives me this: search "Vladimir Petrov" Search term <Petrov> gives me this: Petrov">search " Petrov" Search term <Petrov-Capablanca 1937> gives me this: Petrov-Capablanca+1937">search " Petrov-Capablanca 1937" So if I'm new to our site, and I'm looking for this: Vladimir Petrov or this: V Petrov vs Capablanca, 1937 I'm currently not going to find them. Please fix this bug?
If you are able to fix this, I will be really happy. |

Jan-11-13
 | | jessicafischerqueen: Even stranger. I've copy and pasted the bogus <Petrov> links here in the forum and they are not even the same as what I was originally shown. <Petrov> search took me to "Petrov Defense" and I copy pasted the URL here and it shows up mangled. Please fix this for all of us. |
|
| Jan-11-13 | | The Last Straw: It's okay now. The logout problem is resolved. For some reason, the cookie doesn't actually get cleared when it says it is. I now log out by manually clearing the cookie. Thanks! |

Jan-11-13
 | | chessgames.com: <Vladimir Petrov> Sorry Jess, we've known about that bug. It might serve us well to regard "Petrov" as a name and "Petroff" as the opening, at least for purposes of the E-Z Search. We'll see what we can do about that. |
|
Jan-11-13
 | | jessicafischerqueen: Thanks <Daniel>, I hope you can. Is there any way you can make the search term <petrov> give us all three of these in a selection, or is it impossible to write such a code? Vladimir Petrov
Alexander Petrov
Marijan Petrov
Right now if you put <petrov> into the box it only gives us the last player, not Alexander or Vladimir. |
|
Jan-11-13
 | | jessicafischerqueen: Actually you know what when I put <petrov> in the search box it gives me different results, depending on me clearing my cache and refreshing. Earlier today <petrov> gave me petrov's defence and just a moment ago it gave me Marijan Petrov Very strange. Could my Google Chrome "browser" be screwing up this and other searches at our site? Anyone else on Chrome having similar issues with the search box? |
|
Jan-11-13
 | | Annie K.: <Jess> I don't think your browser should have any effect on your search results. Why not just use the main search form (Advanced Search), that will give you <all> the players named Petrov? :) |
|
Jan-11-13
 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Annie> that's not going to help outsiders find poor <Vladimirs Petrovs> though. However, on the plus side THANK YOU!
How do I find teh <advanced search> form? |
|
Jan-11-13
 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Annie> do you mean the directory? Player Directory
Curiously, there's no <alexander petrov> listed in the player directory. |
|
Jan-11-13
 | | Annie K.: <Jess> No. Look right under the EZ Search line on the main page. Where it sez "Advanced Search" :) |
|
Jan-11-13
 | | jessicafischerqueen: Ah you mean the Form right on the top of the page.
Yes it works for games, I just found the two <Capa-Petrov> games in 1937 using this function. Who knew? Thanks Annie. However, the Advanced Search form can't give you a player profile can it? At any rate, this needs to be fixed properly if it can be. People who don't belong to our site should be able to click on the main search box at the top of the page and get a player's profile. |
|
Jan-11-13
 | | jessicafischerqueen: heh tks <Annie> cross post. |
|
Jan-11-13
 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Annie> did you get those results from the main search box? I need to know, might be a browser issue.
I'll check with another browser, back in a minute... |
|
Jan-11-13
 | | Annie K.: <Jess> yes - I deleted the post, here's a repost: Advanced Search Petrov results:
http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches... Advanced Search Petrov vs Capablanca results:
http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches... |
|
Jan-11-13
 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Annie> ok on Google Chrome I get this for <petrov> from the main search box: search "petrov" And I get this from <Capablanca-Petrov>: search "capablanca-petrov" Ok <capablanca-petrov> working now on Chrome but not before?! ====
Safari and Opera Browsers both give me the same as Chrome for <petrov> in main search box. Marijan Petrov ====== |
|
Jan-11-13
 | | Annie K.: Uh, I consider the Advanced Search the "main search"... Your browser is not supposed to have anything whatsoever to do with your results, AFAIK. :D |
|
Jan-11-13
 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Annie> yes ok Advanced Search is giving me <petrov list>. My point still stands, however.
Outsiders who just use the main search box should be able to find <Vladimirs Petrovs> or any other profile from that box. So if <Daniel> can fix it, I hope he does. Tx for all the help though. New tools for me! |
