 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Annie> yes, tests reveal that Chrome is giving me the same results as Safari and Opera, so you're right about that. I'm so stupid!
At any rate, this still should be fixed for the <not quite so main> search box at the top of the page. If it can be of course. |

 | | OhioChessFan: <Your browser is not supposed to have anything whatsoever to do with your results, AFAIK. > I will note that using AOL is a disaster on this site. I have to use IE. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Ohio> AOL is a disaster for so many other reasons as well. Years back it let all kinds of spyware onto my computer. I'm convinced Google Chrome is actually evil.
However, I have 75,000 bookmarks on it so it's kind of too late to switch? |

 | | Annie K.: <Jess> you're welcome! <Ohio> I recommend any browser *but* IE. ;s Opera and Firefox, mainly. :) |
|
Jan-11-13
 | | Annie K.: <Jess> most decent browsers allow exporting bookmarks to other browsers. Just looked at Chrome:
If you press the 'Customize etc.' button on the top right, it has a 'Bookmarks' line. Then if you choose 'Bookmark manager', in the Organize tab you have an 'Export bookmarks to HTML file' option. That way lies freedom, I guess. ;) |
|
| Jan-11-13 | | Alien Math: <jessicafischerqueen> Thought send how to export bookmarks prior, must have thought of not sent, sorry Most browsers have export also import bookmarks to/from HTML files as <Annie K.> shows |

 | | chessgames.com: <JFQ> We just changed the "Petrov rules" in the E-Z search. For people who are looking for the opening, please either spell it with two ff's ("Petroff") or use the word "Defense" ("Petrov Defense"), otherwise searches like "Keres, Petrov" will be Keres vs Petrov, not Keres playing the Petroff Defense. If you want Vladimir Petrov just search for "Vladimir Petrov". It's E-Z! (™) About your posting guideline complaints, I'm sure you have a valid point but please use the Whistle function and not post about such things openly here. |

 | | Phony Benoni: Won't the "Petrov" problem keep occurring with, say, the Evans Gambit or the Torre Attack? Not to mention all those weird Benonis floating around. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Thanks very much, it will help punters from outside the website find the ill-starred <Vladimirs Petrovs>. As you likely know, the USSR enforced the notion that he never existed, until his "rehabilitation" at the end of communism. Now he is free. |

Here, the computer (playing white) uncorked "checkmate" with <65.g4+>, and abruptly ended the game with me as the loser. Of course, the problem is that it's not really checkmate because I (black) should have been allowed to play 65...hxg3+ e.p. with a drawish game. Grrr. |

 | | chessgames.com: More Java headaches: http://www.zdnet.com/homeland-secur... Meanwhile I've heard a rumor that Apple is rolling out an update that effectively disables Java whether you like it or not. We're going to have to make web4pgn the default viewer very soon and leave Java to the expert users. |

 | | OhioChessFan: web4pgn is awful. You can only replay the game, not try alternate moves or work out the ending. |

Re-post
<playground player: Advice, please--anybody!
I was notified by Pogo yesterday that there is some kind of major security problem with Java. Pogo shut down all its games that use Java.Knowing that CG.com uses Java, I must ask--is it safe to use this site? I'm especially concerned about opening games and moving the men, Little Chess Partner, etc. I'm presuming the Chessforums are safe: hope I'm right.> Any wisdom for us? |
|
| Jan-13-13 | | Pulo y Gata: <CG> Pray, where a man may seek his answers if even asking questions is prohibited here? Would you enlighten me and tell me why two of my recent posts, which I believe did not violate any posting guidelines, were deleted from here and the Tata Steel A thread? I fear that the kid holding the scissors might cut himself... |
|
| Jan-13-13 | | DrNyet: I suggest a button on the live game page to copy PGN so one could paste it in the program of his choice. Unless it's already there and I'm missing it... |
|
| Jan-13-13 | | hms123: <DrNyet>
One choice is to highlight and copy the game moves under the game and then paste them into your engine. A second choice is to click on <review game> (upper right corner) and then on <view> (below the board where it says <PGN: download | view>). That takes you to the pgn with headers. You can then copy and paste that to your engine. The first way is quicker and easier. |

 | | Stonehenge: < web4pgn is awful. You can only replay the game, not try alternate moves or work out the ending. > Perhaps CG can try Adobe Flash Player?
For example NicBase and ChessTempo work with it.
I have had the Java Blacole Virus a couple of times BTW. |

| Jan-14-13 | | Robed.Bishop: <chessgames.com: Meanwhile I've heard a rumor that Apple is rolling out an update that effectively disables Java whether you like it or not.> I use an Apple most of the time when accessing this site and my Java board went down last week. So far I haven't found a fix. I'm down to the dreaded <<web4pgn>>. |
