Sep-20-13  twinlark: Hi <ceegee>

I was wondering whether it might be feasible to have "last modified" date field on player bios, maybe even tournament "bios".

Is this feasible, and if so, would there be any reason not to have them, apart from the slight clutteration effect?

I could have begged for a clean-up of a page, and, (as always); it would have been ignored.

But use a few catch-phrases ... and a virtual bloodbath ensues!

Did you ever stop to think that this was precisely the result that I wanted & anticipated?

If only you knew what i know this morning Goldsby! :-)

Ok ... The dim witted moron has got his, "Go on.. slap me .. I deserve it" smirk on. But not for long.

I dont know why anyones complaining about being banned from the Ivanov page, I think we all got off lightly. But Daniel .. While a few of us have, and do, act like idiots, what are you going to do about Goldsby?? I also knew exactly what was coming on that page, but i acted that way to highlight a problem. Goldsby!! I want him to stay for the wrong reasons, I like to laugh at all his made up stories and OTT posts, but im not stupid. I see how he talks to and treats decent folk, so after 10yrs of nothing but grief and BS from this sad, pathetic little individual, do you not think its time to throw him out....Now? Today?? As long as he’s here, wherever he posts, he’l have 20 people posting behind him reminding him what a moron he is! Cut down the tree and the branches fall with it. He’s laughing in your faces!! All who agree, say "Kick him out"?
Come on guys, we have the momentum here, if we all stick together he’l get the boot.

Or do you want another year of him??

<LIE Master AJ> everyone knew that. However, why do you continue to display your mental and emotional handicaps?

Domdaniel: Some people (and some cats) are reputed to "always land on their feet". Some time ago it occurred to me that there was a way to ensure such a soft landing: whatever part of your anatomy happened to hit the ground first, simply define it as a foot. And hey presto, you always land on your feet. I was reminded of this by LMAJ's line "this was precisely the result that I wanted". He has done this before: not exactly redefining the Goldsby arse as a foot, but close enough. Claiming to have anticipated and desired whatever comes to pass. It's, uh, psychologically interesting. Damaged, sure, but still innaresting.
Sep-21-13  Gregor Samsa Mendel: Give the LM credit--when you have one foot up your rear end and the other in your mouth, landing on your feet is no easy feat.

LIFE Master AJ: <Did you ever stop to think that this was precisely the result that I wanted & anticipated?>

How open does he have to state his intentions (not that his actions didn't speak for themselves during the last 10 years) for you to take action?

Domdaniel: <Gregor S Mendel> Yes, very true. And a most appealing visual image.
Sep-21-13  MarkFinan: Has he gone? If not after his last post, il not make another post till he has!

That may please one or two people, lol.

Sep-21-13  Benzol: <Gregor Samsa Mendel> <Give the LM credit--when you have one foot up your rear end and the other in your mouth, landing on your feet is no easy feat.>

LOL. Brilliant!! An absolute classic and one that deserves a place in the "Memorable Quotes" forum.

:)

It's even more challenging if the mouth with the foot in it is part of the head inserted up one's rear end.

Good evening, I have a quick "code question."

In the intros to games collections, sometimes (but not always) when I put punctuation right after a hyperlink, the punctuation disappears after I click "view collection as others see it."

Here's a concrete example to show you:

In Game Collection: WCC:Alekhine-Bogoljubov 1929, look at this sentence here:

<He was a 2-time Soviet Champion, triumphing over players such as Grigory Levenfish, Peter Arsenievich Romanovsky, and Fedor Parfenovich Bohatirchuk. He was also a 2-time FIDE champion based on match victories over Max Euwe .9>

If I put <Max Euwe.9> into the edit field, the <.9> disappears when I click on the "view collection as others see it."

Would you please confirm this by repeating my actions on the actual games collection? You have TOP SECRET keys to get in all the games collections right?

As I said, it doesn't happen all the time, which is mystifying. But it's driving me crazy, so if you could confirm there's a problem and write some TOP SECRET code to fix it, that would be grand.

Best regards,
JFQ

A quick follow up to help you see exactly what I mean.

From the same intro as above- Game Collection: WCC:Alekhine-Bogoljubov 1929.

In this sentence I put the "period" right next to the hyperlink like this:

<in game 6- Bogoljubov vs Alekhine, 1929.>

And in this case, the period does *not* "disappear" when I click on "view collection as others see it."

But no matter how many times I try to put the "period" right next to the hyperlink in the previous example I gave above:

<victories over Max Euwe .9>

It always disappears when I click on "view as others see it." Both the "period" and the "9" disappear.

  chessgames.com: Hi <WCC Editing Project>

If I understand you correctly, this is the behavior you've discovered:

If you type <...?pid=10706.> it looks like this: Max Euwe.

If you type <...?pid=10706.9> it looks like this: Max Euwe

If you type <...?pid=10706 .9> it looks like this: Max Euwe. 9

That's pretty much how it always works. You are allowed to add a few special extraneous characters to the end of a URL, such as a period or a comma or an exclamation point. That way links can be pasted into text in a natural fashion. But more than 1 extraneous character, and the software assumes that must be part of the URL.

Unless I'm understanding you incorrectly, that's what's going on. I see your dilemma, you want to make nice looking footnotes and this isn't particularly amenable to that. Basically there isn't any way to make the footnotes actually brush up against a URL.

WCC Editing Project: <Daniel> thanks so much for such a prompt reply.

Yes you have it exactly.

Thanks for the information, and I will live with the existing code limitation.

Heh it's almost as if the code is alive eh?

The new women's world champ is 19, not 14. The distance between the two is as the distance between solar systems.

Can somebody please squash this cockroach once and for all?

Honestly, why spend hours on quarantine/clean-up when you can eradicate the disease altogether? I cannot think of a single more destructive influence on this site than this obnoxious waste of space.
