 | | FSR: Your Pun Submission Page won't let me submit "867-5309" for the wonderful game F Jenni vs P Nabavi, 2004, giving this explanation: <ERROR:
Please use both upper and lowercase to capitalize your pun properly.> This is stupid. It is an incredible game, and a fine pun (if I do say so myself). You should make it GOTD ASAP. |

| Oct-05-13 | | TheFocus: Is there a reason why game collections must be 4 games or more in order to be nominated for Historical Pages? There are many matches that consisted of only 2 or 3 games. As examples, Lasker, Capablanca and Alekhine played many matches of this length. The <Chigorin - Steinitz Cable Match> was only 2 games, but had great historical interest. It would be nice if this could be changed.
Thank you. |

Participants:
Kramnik, Svidler, Karjakin, Andreikin, Vitiugov, Inarkiev, Motylev, Nepomniachtchi, Shomoev, Goganov. Sounds like a decent enough line up to have a forum of its own. |

 | | chessgames.com: <Russian Championship Superfinal 2013> Now online. <Annie K.> Thanks for the audios! <TheFocus: Is there a reason why game collections must be 4 games or more in order to be nominated for Historical Pages?> At the time we implemented it, it seemed that anything under 4 games is probably an error or too incomplete to use. Perhaps we overestimated. If there are truly many 2-3 game matches then we should probably reduce the limit to 2. (Some may argue that there are '1 game events' in the form of exhibition games, but at some point we have to draw the line.) <FSR: Your Pun Submission Page won't let me submit "867-5309" for the wonderful game F Jenni vs P Nabavi, 2004> You are right, that is a bug. The game is great. Your pun is duly noted. (A long time ago I distinctly remember using the pun "Jenni I Got Your Number" but I can't find any evidence of it, which means it must have been pre-2004.) |

 | | FSR: As <Joshka> noted seven years ago, Jude Frazer Acers is not listed in the Players Directory. He was a Senior Master for years, and is still the highest-rated player in Louisiana, and the 11th highest-rated senior in the country. http://main.uschess.org/msa/MbrDtlM... He certainly deserves to be in the directory. |

| Oct-08-13 | | ooda: Hi I'm wondering if you've put any consideration into a cg.com mobile interface or app in the future? I'll actually promise a 1 yr premium sub if you do, I use the site soo much on my phone but it's nearly unbrowsable for my little screen. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Good Afternoon.
This makes our website look like it does not care about actual chess history. Chess Historian User: jnpope, from the <Chess Archaeology> site (http://www.chessarch.com/) has recently been active at our website. This is a very good thing.
This is not:
<Mr. Pope> has provided conclusive proof that this game score is incorrect: Zukertort vs Lipschutz, 1886 http://www.chessarch.com/excavation... http://www.chessarch.com/excavation... And here's the part that makes our website look either incompetent, or worse, that it just doesn't care about actual chess history: Aug-10-12 psmith: <jnpope>, <Pawn and Two>: did either of you submit a correction slip? =================
And <Mr. Pope's> replies: 1. Sep-04-12
Premium Chessgames Member jnpope: I did months ago... ===================
2. Jan-01-13
Premium Chessgames Member jnpope: And I also submitted it again on 12/30/2012... ===
3. Jan-27-13
Premium Chessgames Member jnpope: And again on 1/27/2013... ===
4. Feb. 2013 and still no correction and <Mr. Pope> posts the correct game score on the game page: Feb-02-13

5. Now it is October 2013. The uncorrected game score still exists in all its uncorrected inglory: Zukertort vs Lipschutz, 1886 Will you please do something about this. More than one year to process a correction slip? From a noted chess historian who chooses to bless your website with his work? Not a good advert for Cg.com. |

 | | chessgames.com: <Blunderdome> Thanks for finding that! <whiteshark> Thanks. Lots of events this month. <FSR: As <Joshka> noted seven years ago, Jude Frazer Acers is not listed in the Players Directory.> You don't need to tell me who Jude Acers is, he's a living legend. SwitchingQuylthulg is right: more games would make him a shoe-in. <ooda: Hi I'm wondering if you've put any consideration into a cg.com mobile interface or app in the future?> We certainly have considered it, and we believe that what is most called for is not an app but rather a more mobile friendly web page. This can't happen overnight, but we would very much like to create a special "game page" for mobile users, and then perhaps a different homepage layout for mobile users. With those two pages, we wouldn't have a 100% mobile-friendly site, but it would go a long way. <jessicafischerqueen> I've alerted the CG Librarian to give that top priority. |

| Oct-09-13 | | Benzol: Speaking about the <Librarian> does she still have about 2000 slips to process or has this number finally been reduced? She does a great job btw. |

| Oct-09-13 | | Abdel Irada: <<ooda: Hi I'm wondering if you've put any consideration into a cg.com mobile interface or app in the future?> We certainly have considered it, and we believe that what is most called for is not an app but rather a more mobile friendly web page. With those two pages, we wouldn't have a 100% mobile-friendly site, but it would go a long way.> I've just had a look at the source code for this page, and if it is at all representative, you have your work cut out for you. The problem almost certainly results from legacy code: In the early 2000s, CSS was far from its present level of implementation, and it was still common practice to use tables for page layout. This is deprecated today (as this page demonstrates: http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=h...), and for good reason: accessibility. Not only is this markup incompatible with many browsers, but it is very difficult to get it to work flexibly enough for mobile devices. I've had some recent experience with designing a site with this in mind. Mine is laid out in "HTML 4.0 Strict," which is essentially XHTML with a few slight differences in markup protocol. Whether you could get this to work for the functionality you need is problematical, but my advice is to try to bring your code as close as feasible to that standard, because XHTML/XML is the paradigm best suited to mobile site versions, while remaining fully stable, standards-compliant and functional in all browsers. If you like, I can probably offer *some* assistance in updating the markup, but it will be limited because I've no experience implementing many of the functions needed on this site. However, I want to see the site as successful as possible, so do let me know if I can be of aid. ∞ |
