 | | chessgames.com: <perfidious> The "find similar games" feature is so old that it predates the Opening Explorer, so it uses a more primitive technology. While it usually gets things right, it's far from perfect. Somewhere on our extensive wish-list is to completely rewrite that page. |

 | | Domdaniel: <catsfaith>/<Alien Math>/<Thanh Phan> -- It's not always clear, unfortunately, who you are referring to when you say 'her'. But I am sorry that *somebody* seems to have flu. I've just got over it, I think.
I hope that all three of you will now enjoy participating in the Challenge game. |

| Oct-20-13 | | savagerules: I'm using the pgn2web option since Java is not installed due to security issues, but when certain ads come on like the red ESPN and an auto ad the games won't appear. It appears the ads hijack the browser and you have to go back to the CG homepage to continue. Both Firefox and IE and won't allow the pgn2web option to work correctly when these two ads appear on top of the screen, other ads don't cause any problems. |

 | | chessgames.com: <savage> <Both Firefox and IE and won't allow the pgn2web option to work correctly when these two ads appear on top of the screen, other ads don't cause any problems.> OK, this is a new one on us, and if your theory is correct (or even if it isn't) it's a brilliant observation. In the past we've had some rare complaints with pgn4web that we've never been able to replicate. If it was a conflict with Google ads, that would explain everything. (To make matters more complicated, different users see entirely different ads from Google, so it doesn't do us much good to keep reloading hoping to see the same ad you do.) Of utmost importance is this: Which ad region exactly? Is it the one that appears underneath the game, down by "PGN viewer" and so forth? Or is it the large banner that stretches across the very top? Google occasionally makes changes to their ad code, we could start by making sure our ad-widget is of the latest version. If push came to shove, we'd remove the ad zone entirely. |
| Oct-21-13 | | savagerules: It's the banner ads that stretches across the top. If I really want to see the moves when this happens I just use the text option and see the raw moves. Maybe with Java this doesn't happen but my computer's anti-virus software won't allow Java at this point so I have to use the pgn4web option. thx |

 | | keypusher: <hedgeh0g: Looks like my posts get purged while AJ naturally retains his diplomatic immunity.> <Wyatt Gwyon: <hedgeh0g> I am genuinely curious why the owners of this site allow AJ's BS. He's clearly a troll and a cancer.> Reposting these, which I probably shouldn't. But I have to say, I share the bafflement. I've made lots of bad posts that I shouldn't, but I swear he does something bannable every day. |
| Oct-21-13 | | whiteshark: We fully support <keypusher>'s et al. comments and share their sentiments completely. I wonder how far we, the customers, have to go before you are willing to take the necessary action? |
| Oct-21-13 | | Karpova: A small collection which will undoubtly be deleted but I consider it fitting - <LIFE Master AJ> about the <chessgames.com> staff: LIFE Master AJ: <Someone please (PLEASE!!!) post the following on the Borislav Ivanov page. (Currently, I cannot post there, more of DF's incredible stupidity.)> LIFE Master AJ: <Someone asked me recently why my games were closed for kibitzing. I guess the best answer is that D. Freeman is an idiot, and they cannot find a reliable way to control the trolls.> LIFE Master AJ: <(Or so they claim, I no longer believe anything Daniel Freeman says.)> LIFE Master AJ: <And - if anyone needs to apologize, it would be the admin(s) here - to me ... esp. DF, who threw me into the same trash pile as the trolls.> LIFE Master AJ: <Two free months? Means nothing to me. (You can take it back, if you so like.)> LIFE Master AJ: <If Daniel Freeman was even a decent human being - and apparently he is not, and has given his tacit approval to your evil and wicked activities - then he would put a PERMANENT end to your sorry and WRONG and ILLEGAL behavior.I am not sure what it takes to put an end to this nonsense, perhaps a criminal complaint against Mr. Freeman himself. (He is both liable and complicit for not stopping this crap.)> LIFE Master AJ: <BTW, I submitted my last two wins some time ago ... I had no hope of them being posted. (It was a test.) I was just waiting to see if my suspicions were correct - that the only thing these morons will post is one of my losses.> LIFE Master AJ: <What a tremendously fair solution! You should blacklist me from any page that I comment on ... and the same group of individuals follows me there. (Which I have no control over.)An asylum ... run by the inmates ...> |

 | | Annie K.: No, "we" don't. |
| Oct-21-13 | | rogge: White sharks usually hunt alone. |
Oct-21-13
 | | Domdaniel: I second <Annie K> ... "we" don't. Believe it or not, AJ is entitled to hold and to post his opinions. They may be eccentric and sometimes offensive, but that's no reason to silence him. As Bob Dylan wrote, "without freedom of speech we might be in the swamp". |
| Oct-21-13 | | Robed.Bishop: Please allow me to solve this puzzle. It is really elementary, my dear Watsons, Daniel Freeman is LMAJ. A sort of Jekyll and Hyde personality. You'll notice how neither of them is ever posting at the same time, and there are no pictures of them together, or even pictures showing them in the same room at the same time. Finally, by carefully charting the postings of LMAJ by type and frequency, I've correlated his postings to the phases of the moon and found, not surprisingly, that they get nastier as we approach the full moon, then ease off again. I wonder if CG is located in a remote castle in Florida... |
| Oct-21-13 | | Abdel Irada: I would add that it is a sign of magnanimity in <Daniel Freeman> and the other admins to tolerate criticism, even when it is unwarranted and sometimes vicious. It seems to me that this extreme is far preferable to the opposite end of the free-speech spectrum as exemplified on another site familiar to many of us. ∞ |
| Oct-21-13 | | whiteshark: <R.♗> Additionally, no joint tournaments. And indeed,
last full moon: Oct 19th ○
next full moon: Nov 17th ○
indicates the beginning of a cooling phase. |
Oct-21-13
 | | Domdaniel: There seems to be a full moon outside my window. Though it might just be a fool mooning. |
| Oct-21-13 | | Karpova: I agree with <Abdel Irada> and <Domdaniel> that we should not allow the free expression of opinions and criticism to be suppressed. The willingness to listen to another person's standpoint is fundamental to the progress of human civilization. I already gave examples of <AJ>'s valuable opinions on the <admins>. I regard <AJ> as some kind of a very important corrective, who will often point your thoughts in a direction you may never have considered on your own. Examples abound, like the numerous friendly suggestions to commit suicide. Or his kind offers to resort to violence. Not to forget that he often reveals another side of a kibitzer to him, that even the kibitzer himself may not have noticed before, e. g. that he may be a <diseased, AIDS-ridden dog>, <loser>, <coward>, <faggot>, <forgot to take his meds> (very valuable advise!), needs a <full frontal/major lobotomy>, that he might be a <retard>, being <boiled in oil> is necessary, that he is the offspring of <cockroaches>, a <criminal>, <cancer>, has been <abused as a child>, needs to be <wiped off his shoes> or perhaps is <Eric Schiller's sockpuppet>. There is so much food for thought contained therein but I think it is most fruitful if my dear reader draws his or her own conclusions. I just want to add that I'm especially happy about <Domdaniel>'s change of mind as in the past he did support the ban of a member. I hope that this, I would call it the "Dark Age", is gone and we are on the best way to a freer world. I have to stop now as I'm moved to tears. |
Oct-21-13
 | | Domdaniel: <Karpova> Yes, you're absolutely right, he says monstrous things. But I still defend his right to do so.
As for me, I reserve the right to change my mind -- a younger self is a fool, as a wiser man than me once said. |
| Oct-21-13 | | Karpova: <Domdaniel> you and I, we think alike. But we should be lenient towards those who disagree with us about <AJ>. They are blinded by the fact that users are banned on <chessgames.com>, and not seldomly they were victims of <AJ> and merely reacted to verbal abuse. Those people, they just don't see the bigger picture. You do. I do. <Abdel Irada> does. And the <admins>, who never, ever banned <AJ>, they also do. That's why I remain confident. ---
LIFE Master AJ: <Now its time for me to gloat. (And reveal something that I have never told you before.)I pushed all your buttons, INTENTIONALLY! You exploded ... ... ... and the admins here canned you - PERMANENTLY!!! And I took great pleasure expunging many of your putrid and hate-filled posts from my player's page. (It was like permanently erasing a part of you. Like your worthless, pathetic little character ... it never really existed ... and it did not matter, anyway.) You are not smart! In fact, you are only a puppet ... a marionette. ... and I pull all of your strings! :)
Have a nice day.> Nakamura vs A J Goldsby, 2003 |

Oct-21-13
 | | Domdaniel: <Karpova> Heh, what can I say? I don't keep a record of AJ's more outrageous outbursts ... though I admit I'm appalled by some of the lines you've quoted. He goes *way* over the top... And yet. I've seen him contribute to challenge games and daily puzzles. He is a genuine chess-lover, for all his faults. He usually only gets nasty when somebody attacks him ... and there's plenty of that. Of course his more offensive outbursts should be censured in some way ... but it is not a simple issue, as I'm sure the admins realize. And there are people baiting AJ who seem to be motivated by pure malevolence. |
| Oct-21-13 | | Jim Bartle: Well stated, domdaniel. |
| Oct-21-13 | | hms123: <Dom> It pains me to disagree with you. <He usually only gets nasty when somebody attacks him> He usually only gets nasty when <he perceives> (rightly or wrongly) that <somebody attacks him>. His hypersensitivity to the perception of attack and his over-the-top responses are the real problem. If you say <good morning> and I attack you for your disrespect, that may be freedom of speech, but it is not something that you must tolerate on principle. <His right to swing his fist ends at the tip of my nose.> |
