 | | Domdaniel: <CG> In those cases where a 'probable' correction has been submitted without hard evidence (something I've done myself on occasion) might it be possible to create a list of such games, awaiting clarification?
Then people could consult the list, and submit any info which they had access to? |

 | | chessgames.com: <OhioChessFan> We haven't changed the Sticky code in ages, it's probably some nuance of your own system. If it helps, here is a direct link to the page so you can bypass the pop-up feature: http://www.chessgames.com/perl/stic...
<Domdaniel> <In those cases where a 'probable' correction has been submitted without hard evidence (something I've done myself on occasion) might it be possible to create a list of such games, awaiting clarification?> That's not a bad idea. On a related note we want to have some sort of "notepad" for editors to consult, sort of like the Wikipedia "talk pages". That way editors could see the suggested correction, discuss it, bring more information to light, and so forth. |

 | | Annie K.: Why not use the Bistro for that? After all, non-editor members may have relevant information too. It can't hurt to let them see and contribute. Adding a "sticky" to the Bistro page may be a great idea. :) |

 | | OhioChessFan: The sticky worked fine once I got off dialup. Never been an issue before, though game pages loading were occasionally balky. No problems. |

 | | Phony Benoni: Corrections to scores are probably best discussed on the game pages. What would be helpful is a sort of central clearinghouse where Editors can be referred to games under question. Such information might get buried in the more general conversation at the Bistro. |

I should have suspected as much.
"Nothing is ever as it seems, skim milk masquerades as whipped cream." That, and most people's sincerity, (and about a buck-fifty); will get you a cup of coffee at the local McDonalds. |

| Jan-08-14 | | davide2013: Would it be possible to add this game to Guess the Move? Von Gottschall vs Tarrasch, 1888 It has been game of the day, it is part of the book 300 games by Tarrasch. And it has been mentioned also by Chernev. This game last 11 hours! And is one of the best. |

I posted these games here for you a week or so back and you never replied. So. Are the games in this file that you don't have in your database to be submitted individually? Because I would have thought that the more Carlsen games youhhave the better? Oh. And please please please don't open Goldsbys games for kibitzing. It's the last thing this site needs. I get the feeling if you do then he'll say "Did you ever think this was exactly the outcome I was hoping for?" as he insults people. And if you don't he'll probably report your site once again to a 'bad business bureau'. ✌ |

Of course we want every Carlsen game ever recorded, without exception. However, we have to be very careful when dealing with giant files like the one you found at smallchess.com, for a variety of reasons. At first, you might think "just process the entire file--the games you already have in the database will be disregarded as duplicates, and the extra 150 games will be pure gold and added to Magnus' page." It's not that simple. We've spent the past few years making corrections to moves in Carlsen games which were obviously wrong, DGT errors, etc. We also found a number of games that actually were played by Ellen Oen Carlsen or Ingrid Oen Carlsen, which were wrongly attributed to Magnus, and set the record straight. (In many cases the game itself was deleted, as Carlsen's sisters are not particularly notable players.) So if we simply import that file blindly, all sorts of new errors might be introduced, duplicate games created, etc. On the other hand if we pore over the file and find the specific games that we're missing, we'll probably learn that it's restricted to certain tournaments. From there we can make a more careful insertion into the database being careful to not re-introduce errors. |

The winner of the World U14 Championship was Li Di. How do I find out if he has a player page given the search limitations on words of three letters or less? I tried Player Directory and he wasn't there possibly because his rating is under 2200 or he hasn't appeared in any tournies downloaded here. But players like Li Bo (rated 2414) also don't appear and some Chinese GMs with two-letter family names appear in the player directory if their family names are placed last. |
