What about a biography for the Biographer Bistro? I know it sounds strange, but I think it would be good to store important information, e. g. the link to the game collection voting page or standards for tournament/match submissions (how to fill in the fields, e. g. <->, <vs> or <vs.>, etc.). |

 | | keypusher: chessgames, can you delete the shorter of my two posts on this page? Yates vs S Takacs, 1929 I thought I had done it already, but I guess not. Now it's too late. |

| Mar-02-14 | | LIFE Master AJ: Game Collection: "The 100 Best Games" (of the 20th Century). Some words (in the intro) are in italics. I have no clue how this was accomplished, is there some secret trick I used (and have now forgotten) ... or is there some other dark, mysterious force at work here? |

 | | chessgames.com: <LMAJ/all> If you haven't already, you should activate and customize your enhanced menu at our Menu Configuration Page. Then you can make sure you always have a link to Search Kibitzing or whatever other features you use frequently. <keypusher: chessgames, can you delete the shorter of my two posts on this page?> No problem, and keep in mind you can also use the whistle for requests like that. It seems a little odd blowing the whistle on your own post but we get those requests from time and time and are always happy to help with things like that. <Karpova: What about a biography for the Biographer Bistro?> That's an interesting idea. Of course somebody could always make an account with a profile that outlines all of this stuff, but it really should be communally editable like a wiki. |

| Mar-02-14 | | Benzol: <AJ> Try Petrosian vs Unzicker, 1960 There are other games between these two players in the DB btw. |

 | | Annie K.: <AJ> that game is already here: Petrosian vs Unzicker, 1960. In fact, you have already commented on it back in 2006. :) How exactly do you try to search for games? Because I found 11 between Unzicker and Petrosian right now: search "Petrosian vs Unzicker" |

| Mar-02-14 | | Shams: <Admins> I have a question; has the functionality changed with linking to specific posts? As you are no doubt aware, once upon a time if you searched kibitzing history for a certain post and then attempted to link to that historical post in a current post, your link would be broken for many if not most users due to the fact that every user's unique ignore list gives the site a different pagination on their screen. To correct for this, <frogbert> built this simple tool that universalizes any link such that everyone can read it:
http://chess.liverating.org/cgcomli.... It looks to me like the tool simply drops the "kpage=<4-digit number>#" parameter from the url. But I'm not sure that everything is still working. <frogbert>'s tool is still returning an adulterated URL, but that URL is redirecting to the original, unadulterated URL. So the upshot is, I'm not sure if my links are universal or not, now. I'd test it myself, but obviously there's no convenient way for me to do so, since the "broken" links I create are always going to look unbroken (or, universal) on my end. Can you advise? Thanks. |
|
| Mar-02-14 | | LIFE Master AJ: Apparently, I made a mistake ... of some kind.
Recreating, I know that I used the drop-down list. I simply assumed Petrosian was Petrosian, I did not know that BOTH Petrosians were on the drop-down list! I think what happened is I was in a hurry. I know it said Petrosian and Unzicker, no games ... probably I just had the wrong Petrosian. My error, my mistake. I apologize for the oversight. |

| Mar-03-14 | | Shams: <Admins> Speaking of game uploads, would you mind taking a look for this one? I uploaded it several weeks ago. It's a real barnburner, Hillarp Persson over Jonny Hector from the Danish Championships in January: http://www.365chess.com/view_game.p...

 | | Tabanus: Good morning CG, I see that you use "Tata Steel" and "Tata Steel (Group B)" as names. Will that apply also to Hoogovens? Now there are Wijk aan Zee Hoogovens (1975) and Wijk aan Zee Hoogovens (1996) + two more, but if Group B is included that name is too long for the site field. So perhaps just "Hoogovens" and "Hoogovens (Group B)"? See the mess at Game Collection Voting. Also you have Corus Wijk aan Zee (2006) and
Corus Wijk aan Zee Group B (2006), but then comes Wijk aan Zee Corus (2000). |

 | | Eggman: Might I suggest / request that the 2014 Candidates page be spruced up a tad? How about a list of the participants (with their ratings, perhaps?) in the header, along with a little info, e.g. the start date, the format (double round robin), maybe even the time control? |

 | | chessgames.com: <Shams: <Admins> I have a question; has the functionality changed with linking to specific posts?> No we haven't changed a thing. The way to make a universal URL is somewhat tricky (hence the need for frogbert's effort) but in a nutshell, if the link has a "kpage=____" inside of it, it won't be universal. However if it's a call to "/perl/kibitzing" then it will be universal. The /perl/kibitzing script was designed specifically to redirect you to a specific post on a page regardless of ignore list settings. |
