Apr-17-14  Alien Math: Not joking about JavaRa, any program that can complete remove java, deserves a warning label, as it's such a complete and total remove to scare even the most neutral computers

Tabanus: <CG: Are there many other similar situations?> There are some. The one that strikes me first and which should be relatively easy to fix is Stockholm Interzonal (1962), the playoff games should be removed. I can do this playoff afterwards.

Annie K.: Offhand, I can't think of a program more dangerous than Norton Security. :s

It's ok when all is well, but when it goes bad, which happens more often than you'd think, it tends to take the entire computer down with it, due to its particularly intrusive nature. I would recommend McAfee or AVG as much safer AV options.

Just by the way. :)

Apr-17-14  rogge: Why not follow PC Mag's suggestions (they're supposed to know a thing or two about computers)

<The Best Products
The antivirus field is huge; I currently track over 45 products. In a field that big, there's room for multiple products to earn the title of Editors' Choice, each with slightly different strengths.

Three products share the Editor's Choice honor for best overall antivirus: Bitdefender Antivirus Plus (2014)$39.95 at BitDefender, Norton AntiVirus (2014)$49.99 at Norton, and Webroot SecureAnywhere Antivirus (2014)$19.99 at Webroot.>

Bitdefender for me.

Apr-17-14  rogge: Sure, I picked Bitdefender based on their findings.

Domdaniel: I like AVG and McAfee (bias alert: a member of my chess club team works for McAfee!). I'm a bit wary when somebody says that they "detest" some particular software - Chrome, in this case. If we're trying to evaluate these things rationally, then detestation is probably counterproductive.

Tabanus: <CG> If you think this is a good idea (I do), can you please remove the 5 playoff games from Stockholm Interzonal (1962)? If you do, I will nominate Game Collection: Stockholm Interzonal Playoff 1962.

chessgames.com: <Tabanus> OK, sure. Stein vs Benko, 1962, Gligoric vs Stein, 1962, Benko vs Gligoric, 1962, Benko vs Stein, 1962, and Stein vs Gligoric, 1962 have all been pruned from Stockholm Interzonal (1962).

Tabanus: <cg> Thanks! The introduction to Stockholm Interzonal (1962) now needs a slight change, I'll give it a try. I think the playoff crosstable can still be there.
Apr-19-14  TheFocus: <Tabanus> When we vote in the play-off, just post a link to it in the Stockholm intro.

Tabanus: Done. Not sure how successful, though. I had to delete this whole section which became meaningless:

"The play-off round numbers in these games extend to include the extra 5 of 6 rounds necessary to determine a clear winner of the double-round-robin playoffs (each player received a bye, which is why there were 27 rounds indicated in the total of 26 rounds played between some) as the two leaderboard tables of the single and double round-robins both have their games listed in this same tournament page index."

Apr-20-14  Shams: <cg> At your convenience could we have a page for the Gashimov Memorial B Group? Thanks in advance.

FSR: <chessgames.com: ... I happen to maintain a secret list I call <Puns We Will Never Use>. Just to give you a tease, one of them is "Let's Talk about Sax." I hope I don't come across as sounding humorless, but I believe it's important to maintain standards.>

I am shocked and appalled to discover that you have used the "pun" <Come on Eileen> for E Tranmer vs M Karff, 1950. In <Come On Eileen>, the singer exhorts the eponymous Eileen to "take off everything," including her "pretty red dress," so that he may fulfill his "dirty" thoughts with her. http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/dexy...

chessgames.com: We've also used "Me and Julio" for Kaplan vs Bronstein, 1975, a song that some people believe is about homoeroticism. If it was a top 40 song with an innocent sounding title we're OK with it. We're no prudes, but we try to maintain a facade of dignity :)

perfidious: Never heard <that> about <Me and Julio> till now.

Maybe a case of some people projecting their tastes or fears onto others.

Domdaniel: So, perhaps Chuck Berry's "I Want You to Play with my Ding-a-ling" (a hit song!) could apply to, say, Ding Linlin vs R Wang, 2001 ...??

FSR: I hadn't heard that about <Me and Julio> either. (The Beatles' <Please Please Me> is another story.) From Wikipedia:

<In a July 20, 1972 interview for Rolling Stone, Jon Landau asked: "What is it that the mama saw? The whole world wants to know." Simon replied "I have no idea what it is... Something sexual is what I imagine, but when I say 'something', I never bothered to figure out what it was. Didn't make any difference to me." This implies that Paul Simon left the crime up to the imagination of the listener, allowing each person who listens to the song to draw their own conclusion from their own thoughts and experiences. This has not stopped speculation on a definite interpretation: commentators have detected references to recreational drug use, and believe that the mother saw the boy buying drugs. More recently, in October 2010, Simon described the song as "a bit of inscrutable doggerel."> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Me_an...

chessgames.com: <My Ding-a-ling> I believe that very pun is buried deep somewhere in the Pun Voting Booth, where it should probably stay.

<Can we please have a forum for the upcoming <2014 FIDE WOMEN'S WORLD RAPID & BLITZ CHAMPIONSHIP>, which starts tomorrow?> Sure, it will be up soon.
