Feb-08-15  Rolfo: CG, I was recently denied posting. Is it due to your technical formula? I can imagine i am on ignore by the Filipine squad and maybe a few more. Please explain the reason

perfidious: <Everyone: So is <Everyone> banned from posting?>

Looks like it, except at forum pages.

Penguincw: I've also been denied posting, except for here and probably some other places (that's not the live broadcast).

At first I thought it was just me, but I see other users have it too. Please fix it. Thank you in advance. :)

Feb-08-15  Appaz: He-he, seems cg.com rushed the deployment a little too fast and a bug sneaked in. I know all about that.

Unless Daniel is tired of us all and considers everyone a troll: "This is MY page...my precious..." :)

  chessgames.com: Sincere apologies!

At the time of my last post, I was so weary I had to call it a night. I wake up in the morning to see that 100+ users have run into kibitzing brakes. I'm afraid to open my email now.

The morning that Chessgames went black.

Anyhow, all is fixed now.

Feb-08-15  1300patzer: It does not appear that all is fixed on the Grenke page.

  chessgames.com: It's fixed now.
Feb-08-15  lainulo: I can still post. When will be my kibitzing brake? I need a break.
Feb-08-15  1300patzer: Well, something finally updated on the Grenke page (not me), so progress . . . Just by the way, CG, this site is valuable to me as a text "real-time" result page, as my old financially-challenged browser setup can't receive the live video sites. That's in addition to the benefit of the general forum commentary on things.

chessgames.com: We're working on it right now, please have patience as we get things back to normal, and from there we'll make things better than normal.

Incidentally, if I didn't mention it previously, kibitzing brakes never take effect in Chessforums. That's intentional.

Feb-08-15  schweigzwang: <Unfortunately, this would also provide a simple means of silencing someone on the <Kenneth Rogoff> page who hasn't done anything wrong, but whose posts annoy his adversaries simply by being there.>

I agree with <abdel> that this could be a real danger over there. Of course, Rogoff-land is quite a different kettle of spit. It may need its own rules!

Feb-08-15  Appaz: Just to be clear on this: as of now, putting someone on ignore will harm their general ability to post?

tpstar: Great job Millennials, ruining this site for everybody with your constant complaining and your childish insistence that everything in the world matches your specifications. "Ew, Glenn posted about pampered goldfish for the 5000th time, so instead of ignoring him like a sensible adult, I will whine like a baby until someone changes my diaper."

It is particularly galling to see Carlsen Fanboys venting here, after you watched Hans break the rules over and over and over for years. You know exactly what I mean and don't pretend otherwise.

<chessgames.com> This guy's pathology is <MidnightDuffer> level. There is no intervention - either boot him or tolerate him. He has unwittingly called the question on your alternate handle policy, and that is what needs to be fixed. In the meantime, the rank and file should ignore the troll and simultaneously ignore the troll feeders, sending both a message. Even so, to whatever extent that he helped get Norlito out of here, he made things better and not worse.

Feb-08-15  thegoodanarchist: <Sokrates: For over 15 years I have been a regular visitor on a site that discusses watches, primarily mechanical wrist-watches.>

I envy you and your exciting life of non-stop action.

<On that site trollers, or posters who don't abide to the posting rules, simply get banned by the moderators. Moderators are following discussions closely, and if they sense an obnoxious, insulting, very annoying or <<<off-topic seeking person>>>, he gets banned>

So if I want to discuss battery-powered wrist watches I would get banned?

What about mechanical watches with solar backup? OK, Buddy, but tread lightly because we're "watching" you.

Feb-08-15  Appaz: Oooh, <tpstar>s hatred finally boils over. Other than that, I have no clue what he is talking about.

I guess <frogbert> should have made his points in poetry and "satire", then it would have been alright.

chessgames.com: Putting somebody on ignore will have virtually no effect until a certain threshold is met. If a couple of people ignore somebody, that's perfectly normal, and they won't be affected in the slightest. What we're interested in is the off-the-chart anomalies.

For example, I'm looking at an account which 0.5 days old, has made 13 posts, and is already on 17 ignore lists. That's the sort of account that we want to identify.

Feb-08-15  Appaz: Great! I will open up my ignore list for the troll and his most rabid supporters, now that I know it has a function.

Excited to see how this will work out.

One point: the threshold should be high, very high, so as to not be misused by "gangs". Ordinary trolls can be dealt with in ordinary ways - this should be meant to target Glenn and his likes.

Feb-08-15  Appaz: Thanks <lainulo>, couldn't remember your handle right away.

I'll take the rest as they surface.

Feb-08-15  lainulo: <That's the sort of account that we want to identify.>

Then what? We gag his mouth?

chancho: <lai-culo> is already on my ignore list.

Identify the troll and put on ignore.

That's the ticket.

Feb-08-15  schweigzwang: <For example, I'm looking at an account which 0.5 days old, has made 13 posts, and is already on 17 ignore lists.>

I swear, there really are things that money cannot buy.

It's a Gift. :)

Feb-08-15  lainulo: this man should be a descendant of the man who won the best actor in the movie schindler's list.
