chessgames.com: No Colonel, business continues as usual.

However I'm not sure if I follow this <it was possible to tell how many puns I was behind in judging.up. (Add the number of my submissions to the number judged, then subtract that from the total number of puns.)> What is the significance of that figure? Is that the number of puns you haven't voted on?

Phony Benoni: <chessgames.com> First of all, I'm terribly sorry to hear about your loss. I would not have brought this up had I known.

Yes, it was the number of puns I hadn't yet voted on. For example:

Total puns: 5000
Puns voted on: 4825
My puns submitted: 150
Puns to be voted on: 25

To my mind, it was just a handy thing to know.

SwitchingQuylthulg: Very sorry to hear about Alberto :( My condolences to his friends and loved ones.

<chessgames.com: On the subject of accent marks and diacriticals, the solution has been mapped out but it will be a bit of a chore.

As you know we currently keep two strings for each player, the "name" and "long-name", so for example we have "Richard Reti" and "Reti". One for the player page, or if he is player of the day, etc. The short version is used when we need to say "Reti-Lasker" or the like.

What's needed to support the true spellings of these names are two more renditions of the name with the proper unicode, "Richard Réti" and "Réti". Of course the fields wouldn't exist for every player, just the ones that need it. These two new fields would be used for display purposes just about everywhere, so you wouldn't be able to find "Reti" (without the accent) anywhere on the site, with one major exception: the diacriticals forms would not appear in the PGN. (Or conceivably, even that could be an option.)>

Alternatively, create one new field for PGN purposes, update the spellings in the existing fields and open a database of valid search terms. That way Cepedes, Cespedes and Céspedes would all work for searching purposes.
