 | | chessgames.com: It is indeed against our policies to name yourself after a living (or recently deceased) player. I truly hope it's Fabiano but I have serious doubts. The truth will out. |

It seems that this question has been settled to your satisfaction:
Fabiano Caruana chessforum ;) |
|
| Apr-06-15 | | zanzibar: <<chessgames.com> This should settle the Caruana matter: https://twitter.com/chessgamescom/s... Only if you get an authenticated reply.
And what if you don't? |

| Apr-06-15 | | Baron Harkonnen: Well some were already believing that <conrad93> is Conrad Holt..Go figure. |

| Apr-06-15 | | MarkFinan: <Baron Harkonnen: Well some were already believing that <conrad93> is Conrad Holt..Go figure.> Good job we have you to trawl through the internet looking for photos and information, eliminating the innocent and <real> Conrad Holt, lol. |

| Apr-07-15 | | TheFocus: <chessgames.com> <I think a look through the "recent activity" section of [TheFocus] profile might help out with fattening up the "quote bank."> <Not a bad idea.>
Of course I could add more but I am only allowed to make 4 posts a day. Or at a time. Or after lunch. Whatever. Silly restrictions. A prophet is never honored in his own land. |

 | | chessgames.com: <TheFocus> — I for one do appreciate your quotes. Don't change anything on my account. Regarding the Kibitzing Brakes wall you've bumped into a few times, may I suggest posting multiple quotes in a single post? That way you skirt the "N-posts in M-minutes" rule and plus, there are other reasons why this might be preferable. |
|
| Apr-07-15 | | TheFocus: <Multiple quotes in one post>? No. One quote per customer... er... post. |

| Apr-08-15 | | YouRang: I just now have become aware of the "new" kibitzing brakes idea. Sounds to be like a good creative approach to dealing with a problem that plagues open-forum sites such as this one. <The "ignore" solution comes with its pros and cons. The sad fact is that only 20-30% of people use the ignore feature, the other 70-80% insist that it's useless because most people don't use it. And as long as they are a majority, they'll be right.> I personally don't use the ignore feature because I think it's overkill and it has unpleasant side effects. One side effect is messed up paging. Another is that some posts will not seem to make sense because they are in response to something said in an (invisible) post by an ingored kibitzer. Perhaps a more direct idea is to provide a way to flag a person as a troll (maybe to to their user page and click a "This kibitzer is a troll" button). Instead of hiding this persons posts, you could just gray the text so that their posts are easily identifiable as something you've devalued. But, you can still read it if you need to understand the context of the conversation. Also, if person A puts person B on n "ignore", it doesn't necessarily mean that A thinks B is a troll. Maybe A just isn't interested in what that B likes to talk about (e.g. religion, politics, etc.). A "troll button" would remove all doubt about the reason. It might also be illuminating in a different way. If you see someone going around flagging lots of otherwise well-regarded people as trolls -- that frequent-flagger is probably a troll! |
|
| Apr-09-15 | | MarkFinan: May I be so bold as to ask if more posts have been deleted from my forum? And if so, all you had to do was ask me to delete the offensive part (in this case someone's name!) and I'd have amended it. |
|
| Apr-09-15 | | MarkFinan: AT.. Copy and paste the games URL here so they don't have to trawl through the whole tournament looking, Like.... "I think this game Guess-the-Move: A Kuebler vs Larsen, 1984 needs correcting as it's a blitz miniature, blah blah blah etc etc etc. ' If you look at the bottom of the game pages there's an option to fill in a 'correction slip'. |
|
| Apr-09-15 | | A.T PhoneHome: Not a matter of urgency but giving it a go since this forum page tends to be pretty "inhabited". Just suggesting that page Spassky vs Fischer, 1972 should have a picture of Lothar Schmid congratulating Bobby Fischer after Spassky's resignation by telephone. I think that picture of smiling and congratulated Fischer after the last game at his peak would be very fitting. Thank you for your answer(s)! |

Another is that some posts will not seem to make sense because they are in response to something said in an (invisible) post by an ingored kibitzer.> I think I see your problem. You've been using "ignore" rather than the much more effective "ingore," which reduces the offending user to screams and groans, followed at length by a permanent silence. ∞ |
|
| Apr-10-15 | | YouRang: <Abdel Irada> Agreed. But unfortunately, while the ingore feature was a great technological breakthrough, the marketing has been an utter failure. It seems that people just aren't willing to pay extra for keyboards equipped with the self-ingoring mechanism. |

 | | FSR: I was just going to point out what <offramp> pointed out. In addition, there seems to be a glitch in the "find similar games" feature. Asked to find similar games to W So vs S Sevian, 2015, it says that the "Novelty of stem-game" was 12...c5. But that was no novelty. It had been played two years before in the very famous game Aronian vs Anand, 2013. See Opening Explorer. The problem seems to be that the players reached the exact same position through different move orders: Aronian played 6.Bd3, while So played 6.Qc2. Disturbingly, "find similar games" doesn't even list Aronian-Anand as being a "similar game" to So-Sevian at all, even though it is in fact the <most> similar game. |
