chessgames.com: <WannaBe: <chessgames.com> No help, still take forever to load the .gifs =(>

That's a pity. For what it's worth, I had an incident yesterday where I could not load the page on a Mac whatsoever. I didn't have the patience to wait for 2-3 minutes so I restarted the browser, after which it loaded in the usual 5-10 seconds.

Apr-22-15  Wayne Power: <Richard Taylor: I still have XP but my son cant access it with Windows 7 but I'll try some of those things. I use Chrome. Should I shut it down and use Firefox? Or try downloading Firefox?>

Chrome does not support that version of Java - or so "they" say. XP may also be part of your problem but, if your son has W7, perhaps he could try my recipe with Firefox and see what happens.

chessgames.com: <scout118> We don't accept suggestions to ban users on this forum, not because we don't value your opinion, but because we don't want this forum to degenerate into a place to complain about other members.

The proper channel is to use the Whistle function on specific posts that you find inappropriate

It is no secret that some users employ foreign languages to attempt to skirt our posting guidelines. Therefore, if you would like to blow the whistle on a post written in Tagalog, please include an English translation to the best of your ability. We would be very grateful for that, as nobody here speaks the language and we rarely get to read some of these posts that undoubtedly are the source of concern for many.

Thanks.

Thanks for your reply.

Au point, as usual. On your own accord, you do the right thing and ban certain (former) users who have no business in this site and whom most of us other users would agree with you as rule-breakers. Of course, these types regularly resuscitate themselves with new multiple handles, but should be pretty simple to detect.

And we do have the ignore function.

SUGGESTION: USER/MODERATORS

Down the road, you may want to designate volunteer forum user/moderators which may be based on credentials submitted, length of bonafide membership, etc. Mod functions could be limited to and designated for certain pages, i.e. Wesley So, Magnus Carlsen, etc..

Penguincw: < Annie K.: What we need is more Bookie Leaderboard updates... ;s >

I agree. The suspense of waiting for the Leaderboard to update around 5:15 pm daily <kills> me. I'm not saying there should be a Leaderboard update after every bet, but if I were bookie, I would do it after every round (ex. once all the Gashimov games are done and paid off, just click some button to update the standings). Just my five cents... (Canada doesn't use the penny).

Just more leaderboard updates in general would be good. :)

P.S. Thanks for the WTCC page. :)

I, for one, certainly would use that button if it were there! ;)

"If it were there". Really? I thought there was one, because earlier this leg I saw the leaderboard once being updated at like 7pm (normally it's only on the 5's). Perhaps <cg> just wanted to update it for fun...

Chessgames Bookie: I wouldn't mind having a <Compute Leaderboard> button, but having forums for all current and upcoming Bookie events (like the Battle of the Legends between Kasparov and Short) would be even nicer. I need someplace to advertise :)

Did I mention Friday is Exotic Day, with all the usual game-result bets but also extra fun and opportunities?

Well I still cant see any of the games except sometimes with the default. But I'll try your recipe. I'm intending to get a complete new system probably I'll get Windows 7. I'll leave it for now as I have other things to do. I mainly use this as an opening resource although it was good to use MistyBeach but clearly there is a conspiracy against me by everyone and the whole world and Cyber Soft or whoever it is...so, there you are...!!

But, getting back to serious, I can download pgns etc I suppose until I upgrade or whatever. It is all more of the tediousness of having computers, why don't they work like in Star Trek when Spock just had to talk to the computer and it would solve all the problems, I don't want all this technical gobbledy gook I just want it al to work for me...HO!

Again, I see the leaderboard being updated at a random time, 1:43 pm. I'm going to assume that it's rather in response to the above posts or just <cg> updated it for fun...

That worked once, but I couldn't do diagrams. Not really an acceptable solution anyway.

Annie K.: Um, why is everybody responding to my posts with "really" today?! ;s

<cg> been away for a while - I see it's back to normal now everywhere. Will take a screenshot if it happens again.

<Penguincw> the Bookie can't update the Leaderboard as of my last check. ;) <cg> can, apparently. I wonder if today was a one-time extra, a trial period, or a new schedule? :)

Tabanus: I've achieved "Terrible Claw" status playing <Dynomite> (which uses Java) at http://www.shockwave.com/gamelandin.... The site is added to my permission list. It works fine, and as before. My inevitable but perhaps too hasty conclusion is: It's not Jave who has screwed it up, but CG.

Well, not exactly. Java there loads faster than before, but it's often hanging when playing. But then I have IE 11 now.

Apr-23-15  ajile: Well well it appears I'm not the only one with Java not working after the latest update. (Java Plug-in 11.45.2) Note this isn't just one browser, it's failed in EVERY browser I have tried so far. I get the basic viewer only but I admit I was spoiled by the Deluxe II. When I try to load a game I get the "Do you want to load?" warning window. Then after I click yes I get nothing but white. No red X or anything like that. And sometimes if I leave and come back the viewer has loaded after a long time.

No joy for me either on Java working at <cg.com>. I've updated both 32 and 64 bit versions, whitelisted <cg.com>, but no Java for me at this website.

I'm considering enjoying the "PGN VIEWER"= by force.

It's little, but it tries harder!
