chessgames.com: We just publish the PGN from the official site and then try to clean it up afterwards.

Tabanus: The cleaners in this case includes the CG editors, as they can edit the round number. If the board number is to be included, it's best to do it now while this information is available.
Jul-02-15  Benzol: <chessgames> Could you please make S Kjellander vs E Secchi, 1959 a GOTD sometime soon.

MissScarlett: Nobody's interested in board numbers. You might as well record the players' shoe colours.

Annie K.: Well, in team championships it might be of some historical value to record which pair of players was on which board, but that information can go either in the tournament header or the kibitzing, no need to keep it in the PGN.

If the editors want to clean these round tags up manually, perhaps they could record the board information in one of those spots.

Or... any chance of a script that could also do that sort of cleaning up automatically? Obviously we wouldn't want a bot to barge in on an already written tourney intro, but perhaps it could use an account to post its data in the kibitzing, (and maybe even follow up by posting a link to its post to the Bistro for a heads-up, if we want to get *really* carried away...) ;) and the editors could then use the data from this post later?

Tabanus: <Or... any chance of a script that could also do that sort of cleaning up automatically?> Oh no... I don't trust that.

Let's skip the ugly board number in the pgn's!

Can we please have a forum for the super strong <6TH HAINAN DANZHOU GM TOURNAMENT>??

Wei Yi just played a stupendous <KING HUNT> in Round 2 against Bruzon.

36 ♗f2-e1! 1-0

chessgames.com: Sorry for being late on this one: 6th Hainan Danzhou (2015). Great game by Wei.

<Or... any chance of a script that could also do that sort of cleaning up automatically?> It would be trivial to turn "1.3" into "1", but during knockout events and similar structures the decimal is actually necessary, where 1.3 means "third game of round 1." Perhaps the admins can be given a button that says "strip decimals in round numbers" to be used on specific tournaments that need a cleanup.

I don't like the idea of stuffing the board numbers into the round fields, just like I don't approve of sticking country affiliations or ratings in the player names, or other such tactics. It's not academically incorrect.

Jul-03-15  gauer: http://chessevents.com/viewer/games... and http://chessevents.com/viewer/games... are also keeping our southern neighbour's capital busy for the Independence Day weekend. See my profile if you were seeking a bit of progress sorting out some those other recent swiss series of the http://www.internationalchess.net/ (CCA) congresses.

But due to holidays (happy fireworks days down there!), I wasn't sure if it would be easier for you to bulk-check those pgns (and some others have earlier years too) to match your pids.

Jul-03-15  Abdel Irada: <N0B0DY: <MissScarlett: Nobody's interested in board numbers.> Quite so!>

But how interested *are* you?

chessgames.com: Somebody reported that the new "Spartan" browser (aka "Windows Edge") for Windows 10 can't view pgn4web. Embarrassingly, I don't have a Windows 10 computer handy to test this. Can anybody with Spartan confirm or deny?

FSR: <chessgames.com> I see that you've taken note of Wei Yi's immortal, Wei Yi vs L Bruzon Batista, 2015. <rcs784> suggested <A Long Wei from Home> for it.

chessgames.com: <tpstar: <chessgames.com> Happy Fourth of July!> Happy Independence Day to you too, Tony!

<FSR> <A Long Wei from Home> isn't bad. At first I didn't get it (he was in his home country!) but now I see, the black King was a long way from home. Look for it real soon.

<MissScarlett: I see you batted away <FSR> as a person of no consequence. Quite so, but please make sure you upload my submissions, ASAP.> I don't know what you mean by that, but we're making the PGN upload rounds. Yours are near the top.

chessgames.com: BTW, today is another example of how Chessgames is subject to coincidences so far out, they spook me.

The player of the day, Horatio Caro. The opening of the day, Caro-Kann, Panov-Botvinnik Attack (B14). The game of the day, Short vs V Malisauskas, 1994 which is a Caro-Kann.

Believe it or not, we didn't plan that. This trifecta is a total coincidence. (Caroncidence?)

Jul-05-15  Benzol: <chessgames> You're not fooling me. It was insider trading.

:)

BTW Not to nag too much but can I ask again how game submissions are going? I know that some of mine are some months old now.

Jul-05-15  Abdel Irada: <cg.com>: You advise us to ignore obvious trolls, and I think most of us are doing that.

But there's a large fly in that pot of ointment, and his name is Legion ... I mean <tolengoy>, by his many names.

If we go on ignoring all of his incarnations, we are going to need an infinite ignore list. Either that, or perhaps you should consider deleting his accounts so we can take them off our ignore lists to make room for the new ones.
