 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: <WannaBe> is on the right track. This is not a Firefox issue; it's a known undocumented feature that has to do with page borders and multiple games played in the same year. <Fusilli> If you go to Chessgames Preferences Page and select "Display 100 games per page (instead of 25)", you won't run into this issue nearly as often. |

 | | Fusilli: <WB> <Switch> Thanks! I'll change it to 100 games per page. <WB> To answer your question, 76 games is correct, and I do see only one on page 4. Currently I see a game twice and another one never. But no game is missing, and no game is duplicated. It does seem to be a problem with the way they are displayed on the roster of games. |

Jul-13-15
 | | chessgames.com: Switch has it right: <This is not a Firefox issue; it's a known undocumented feature that has to do with page borders and multiple games played in the same year.> I know exactly why it happens. It has to do with possible inconsistencies when you do ask the database something like "sort this query on year and give me records 26-50." There is a project in the works to sort the games on a more robust field than simply year (the full date, event, round, etc.). Once that's implemented, this issue will vanish without any additional effort. |

 | | WannaBe: <Domdaniel: Mens Sana in corpore Sana?> Ugh!! Where is that ignore button and how does that work?? =)) |
|
Jul-13-15
 | | Fusilli: <Domdaniel> :) Yeah, Sana=healthy in Latin as well as Italian and Spanish. I wish I were always consistent with the meaning of my last name, both in body and mind! |
|
| Jul-13-15 | | Pulo y Gata: Interestingly, Sana in Filipino is a word that signifies a wish. "Sana malusog ako sa isip at katawan." translates to "I wish I am healthy both in body and mind." |

 | | Eggman: It seems that the Advanced Search function does not include the popular Trompowski Attack in its drop down list of openings, thus making it very difficult to search for games in which, say, Peter Svidler is essaying the black pieces against this opening. Is it possible to fix this? |
|
Jul-13-15
 | | chessgames.com: <Eggman> That can't be easily fixed. The problem is the Advanced Search only uses ECO codes, and unfortunately the Tromp is listed under Queen's Pawn Game (A45), a very generic chapter of all sorts of offbeat variations that start with 1.d4 Nf6. You can search for Svidler's games against the Trompowsky, you'll have to use the Repertoire explorer. To do this, 1. First go to Peter Svidler 2. Click on "Repertoire Explorer > With the Black Pieces" 3. Click d4, then Nf6, then Bg5.
You'll finally come to this page: Repertoire Explorer: Peter Svidler (black) |

| Jul-13-15 | | gauer: Donald Duck might wish to nominate his neighbour Pluto (Computer) to your player of the day tomorrow, since he'll be prominently posing for plenty of photos with all of his fame. Would it be a possibility to add a photo to his player page as well?! With each having drawn Nickel, either he or Neptune (Computer) versus The World might make for a decent team match-up next time they cross paths. |

 | | offramp: I'm surprised there is no mention on the home page of Bastille Day. |
|
Jul-14-15
 | | chessgames.com: <Bastille Day> Apologies—I didn't realize the importance of today's date. Next year we'll find a really beautiful French Defense for GOTD. |

 | | offramp: July is one to watch because in the first fortnight there's Canada, USA, Orangemen then France. |

 | | WannaBe: Breakin' (GOOD) Gnus! Java 8 update 51 is out, and it loads Deluxe Chess Viewer II FAST!!! I mean it is blazin' fast! It loads the board and game faster than I can resign a game, it's that fast. Confirmed on Win7 Pro [with IE (32-bit), Chrome and Firefox] Confirmed on Win8.1 Pro with IE (32-bit).
Wheeeeee! |
|
| Jul-16-15 | | Boomie: I second the esteemed Wabbit's opinion of the latest Java. I suggest everyone upgrade and use Deluxe Viewer II to check it out. |

 | | chessgames.com: Holy cow! Just when I've given up on the forsaken thing, it's working better than ever. Great news! |
|
| Jul-16-15 | | Everyone: Our patience was sorely tried but everything comes to <Everyone> who waits. <Great news indeed!> |
|
| Jul-16-15 | | WinKing: That new Java update works great! It's good to have Deluxe Chess Viewer II back again. Thanks for the news <WannaBe> your carrots are in the mail. :) |

 | | WannaBe: <CG> I just have to click 'run' now. So I think you are correct. But my memory is a bit hazy... |
|
Jul-16-15
 | | Annie K.: <cg> hmm, then the bad gnus is that you now may have to get the new move-specific URLs to work with CVD after all? ;s |

Jul-16-15
 | | al wazir: <chessgames.com: Just when I've given up on the forsaken thing, it's working better than ever.> I was averaging two minutes to load the first game with Deluxe Chess Viewer II and five minutes for the second. Then I installed v. 51. Now most (though not all) Java-based routines run properly, but not Deluxe Chess Viewer II. It doesn't load at all. Instead I get a gray box with the message "A plugin is needed to display this content." What plugin is that? BTW, thanks for updating the URL for the Kenneth Rogoff bio. |

 | | WannaBe: <al wazir> What operating system are you using and what kind of browser (and version)? You can also go to https://www.java.com/verify to confirm the install was correct, or done correctly. |
