 | | tpstar: <chessgames.com> The Find Similar Games feature is a nice enhancement. <ughaibu> will love it. For the move box under the board, has it always been Aligned Center instead of Aligned Left? Maybe I never noticed. |

 | | chessgames.com: <The Find Similar Games feature is a nice enhancement.> Thanks Tony. Now that it uses Opening Explorer data it's very accurate, the only drawback is that you can't use it on brand-new games. <For the move box under the board, has it always been Aligned Center instead of Aligned Left? Maybe I never noticed.> Wait—you're still talking about similar games now, right? The box with a black background and white moves? It's always been aligned left. Are you saying that you see it centered now? |

 | | tpstar: <chessgames.com> Sorry, I meant the move box under every game page board using pgn4web Default Viewer, where each side is aligned perfectly under the board. It just looked different. =) |

| Sep-09-15 | | YouRang: It seems a bit crashy lately? |
|
Sep-09-15
 | | WannaBe: <YouRang> Well, according to previous posts, the issue was hardware, and it was configured/replaced. But I couldn't get on earlier today, around 3PM Pacific Time (?). Then it was OK again. |
|
| Sep-09-15 | | YouRang: Yep, I had the same problem today (around the same time). But it seems I've seen this problem a few times in recent weeks. |

 | | tpstar: Another outage during the night. I posted here Suetin vs Taimanov, 1958 around 2:00 am and came back at 8:15 am where it is still the most recent comment. Good luck with the site. =) |

I had a cg outage just a few minutes ago but I'm in Korea so maybe it doesn't count. It's "something o'clock" here in Korea and I don't have a calculator. I may be reporting the same outage that Tony is, since I don't know what time he made his post. |
|
| Sep-11-15 | | SugarDom: The outages are many and the last one was so long i thought CG is having financial difficulties and had shut down. LOL. |

 | | keypusher: But now I can't copy a FEN string. What is going on? |

 | | chessgames.com: <outages> At this point all I can is that we are working on the problem daily and will let you know when things have stabilized. <keypusher: But now I can't copy a FEN string. What is going on?> I think what you are experiencing is normal. Java had gotten much worse (to the point of being unusable) but now the new release is working very, although the configuration process can be harrowing. It sounds like you configured it properly. However, even then, there are some differences. One that I've noticed that that copy-and-paste does not work on Macintoshes. (I believe it has to do with some security concern of data leaving the Java applet?) Personally, when I need to copy a FEN string, I am forced to flip back to pgn4web, press b8, copy the FEN, then switch back to CVD. I hadn't heard anybody else mention this issue until now, so I assumed it might be somewhat specific to certain Macs and OS versions. |

 | | keypusher: <chessgames> Glory be! I didn't know about that <b8> function. See what you made possible: USSR Championship (1945) Thank you! Is there a list of those functions somewhere? I guess I could figure it out for myself. |

| Sep-11-15 | | whiteshark: <ceegee> FYI, today's QotD might be historical (correct), but it's definitively against the current FIDE RULES which state: "<It is forbidden to write the moves in advance>, unless the player is claiming a draw according to Article 9.2, or 9.3 or adjourning a game according to Appendix E.1 a." https://www.fide.com/fide/handbook.... Have a nice Day! ;D |

| Sep-11-15 | | gauer: Is there any sort of way to add an http://www.chessgames.com/perl/addn... (from one's personal opening explorer notes, or maybe also a union of annotated games by annotator of games annotated at that node point) to http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches... if that is a preferred view of a user who is experimenting with the enjoyments of the new Games Like Kasimdzhanov vs A Kovalyov, 2015 feature? Also, in the case of the <game> that one is using find similar on, Queen's Indian (E15) seems to be a relatively common version of the node in ECO (minor exception, though, so is E06, D11, A14, etc). Is it possible to show one's personal notes as something like a biography header of games'-node-list? If the node is fairly close to unique to only one of a couple of ECO positions, is it possible to display one's own personal note(s) or perhaps an editor introduction box to talk about annotations of well-respected annotators or a status of a position or move-orders within the opening category of an ECO start position there in a similar biography header (but for an ECO page, instead of a pid page)? Also, at Opening Explorer would it make much sense to add a sort of "find similar" link to somewhere such as the space below your "<notable games>, <debut>, <recent>" statistical collector area (as opposed to adding something like a "find similar" link to a personal note)? Not sure how much extra it might cost in terms of compute cycles to provide such added bonus for a particular games-list-view format of choice, but it might make the various choices easier to navigate between them. And yes, the new format does seem to work fairly well, once one gets past the learning curve of having previously been used to the older find similar format. |

Kamsky vs H Melkumyan, 2015. (The result is currently given as 1/2-1/2.) |

| Sep-11-15 | | Dr. Overlord: On behalf of all the politically correct people out there, I hereby protest the sexist pun of today's game: "My Kind a Galle". <CG>, I AM WATCHING YOU.. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen:
Beg your pardon <Dr.> At first I missed the sarcasm in your post. I'm not really much of a "reader" per se. Anyways I don't think "gal" is sexist, and I'm guessing you don't either? I did notice some protest on the game page about the quality of the actual chess though: Kasparov vs A Galle, 1976 |

| Sep-11-15 | | Dr. Overlord: <JFQ: At first I missed the sarcasm in your post.> Sarcasm? What sarcasm??
<I'm not really much of a "reader" per se.> Now, that is sarcasm! You're well-read and a really smart gal (ehh..I mean girl..no sexism intended). I'll leave it to the <morphinist> to sort this out. He's our residential PC expert (and I don't mean computers). |

 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: <cg> Currently, any number in a Chessgames shortcut URL (e.g. http://www.chessgames.com/1234567) is interpreted as a game ID, regardless of whether it has seven digits or not. Would it be possible to interpret five- and six-digit numbers as player IDs and only seven-digit numbers as game IDs? (Yes, there are other things with five-digit IDs, like tournaments and even Bookie propositions; but I think player IDs would be the best choice.) It will be quite a while before game IDs and player IDs start to overlap :) |
