offramp: Chessgames.com tell Arno Nickel that we'll play his confounded Lasker chess, but with berolina pawns. Then computers can't be used.
Aug-11-16  morfishine: <chessgames.com> Note, I stand firmly beside <User not found>

Attacks/assaults on character should be first addressed, then deflected and disbursed as so much trash.

There are many posters around here who are condescending and provocative in nature who should be banned from time-to-time. Even short suspensions seem to have a remarkable effect on their actions. The redoubtable <Overgod> seems to have made an effort to clean up his postings after repeated deletions of his garbage

Overbearing and obnoxious posters like <keypusher> or <cluelessalem> need to be reminded from time-to-time that their provocative postings need to cease altogether. "Looking down the nose" and assuming a condescending attitude contributes nothing to the enjoyment of chess

best always, morf

<morfishine: Overbearing and obnoxious posters like <keypusher> or <cluelessalem> need to be reminded from time-to-time that their provocative postings need to cease altogether.>

I've been reading and enjoying <keypusher>'s well-informed posts for years, and I fail to see what you mean. How is he "overbearing and obnoxious"?

The only thing I can think of is that he knows a little *too* much for the comfort of some, and incurs resentment for making them feel inferior. But those who resent would do well to bear in mind the adage, "No one can make you feel inferior without your permission."

In other words, it's down to attitude. If you're debating with him, and he wins, you can either learn from it, or reject it and object to him for doing it. It seems to me you've done the latter.

Aug-12-16  zanzibar: <Chessgames>...

Do you have some special settings for certain users?

In particular, that their kibitz's are hidden from the <Latest Kibitz> list?

Is that a new feature (I think so), and if so, is it available to all?

Aug-12-16  zanzibar: Actually, one could as well ask if it really should be available to any.
Aug-12-16  zanzibar: OK, strike the above two comments... made under a mistaken assumption on my part.

Domdaniel: <CG> -- < If I recall, Lasker chess is exactly like orthodox chess in all ways with one exception: stalemate is regarded not as a draw, but a win condition.>

Herr Nickel's offer is interesting. Lasker chess is also interesting, as it is among the most minimal ways that the standard game can be tweaked.

Here's another: Nimzowitsch chess. And Arno Nickel is familiar with this, as he was the publisher of a collection of late writings by Nimzo. In one of those pieces, circa 1930, Nimzowitsch opined that within ten years the initial double pawn move - a 16th century innovation to speed up the game - would be rescinded. Around the same time he began to use openings like the Van't Kruijs: 1.e3...

So another idea is a game of Nimzo chess - no double pawn moves - vs Arno Nickel. Would he agree? I don't know - try him.

And there's always Nimzo-Lasker chess...

Domdaniel: A few telling extracts from recent posts by <chessgames.com>:

1. < I'm faced with a job of reading a long rambling rant>

2. <to make the admin's work simpler by forcing the complainant to distill their case into fewer words>

3. <although with current funding don't expect Carlsen.>

My reading is as follows: the cg staff are human beings doing a job. When members make this job more difficult - never mind whether those members are self-obsessed fruitcakes, paranoid crazies with a chip on each shoulder, or decent types with a justified complaint - then dealing with the complaint gets to be a hassle.

Meanwhile, time and money are short. Or not as long as they might be.

So it would help if more people took a deep breath before fanning flames, making complaints, screaming, whining, mewling, etc. Even when justified it probably just gums up the works.

Amen. Perhaps this should be the cg.com daily prayer.

Fine. I'll quit fanning the flames. I will stop making complaints and screaming and whining. But I am simply not going to quit mewling.

chessgames.com: <morfishine> and <Abdel Irada> — Your two posts when taken as a whole illustrate the importance for tolerance. We all agree that there are some bad apples but no two people can agree on exactly which ones those are.

<zanzibar: <Chessgames>... Do you have some special settings for certain users? In particular, that their kibitz's are hidden from the <Latest Kibitz> list?> Yes. Checking the code I see there are a few reasons why recent kibitzing might be suppressed. First, the most well known, the "Rogoff Rule" that prevents Kenneth Rogoff from showing up on our homepage (unless it's a game.) The now-defunct "Goldsby Rule" prevented all talk about Mr. Goldsby, the secret question-mark-player doesn't show up, and also Edmund Beronio is exempt. The (?) player is just a joke page, but in the other cases the reason is all the same: too much off-topic posting and/or bickering. It's all found on the Recent Kibitzing Page but not necessarily on the homepage.

<Domdaniel> About Nimzo-chess, that's very interesting. Is there computer software that can be rigged with a "nimzo-chess setting"? If not, that would make the game a battle of brainpower at least until we get deep into the ending. As for your second post, well stated.

Aug-13-16  zanzibar: Thanks <chessgames>.

<morfishine>: If you've made up your mind not to like <keypusher>, that's your concern, but I honestly don't see the source of your animus.

To me, <keypusher> seems unfailingly polite. If he has ever been otherwise, apparently either it was before my time, or I missed it.

Aug-15-16  User not found: I guess it depends who's on Daniel's Xmas card list, fellas.

Anyways.. I'd like to change the name of my forum to "The Messi appreciation forum" or "I ♥ Bieber" or something, I just don't want the name <you decided> to give my forum.

And if you contact me privately (or publicly if that's what you'd prefer) we can sort this whole thing out before you have to give information, take time out of your schedule and go through years worth of time and date stamps, I know you've got better things to be doing and I never wanted this for you or me. Just ban me or ban him, I realize I'm not being very friendly but then again these people here don't realize what I've had to put up with for the last 4 years whereas you do.

  chessgames.com: <edwardmcclain> Yes, you've mentioned that a few times.

<unf> Remember when you were banned years ago and skirted the punishment by making chess collections with offensive titles? That was the first of many exceptional actions taken on your account; and this is yet another time I had to make special code to cater soley to you. This request of yours to be banned is looking mighty tempting; it sure would be easier than writing custom code for you all the time.

Aug-16-16  User not found: Well then good luck with having to give up certain information taking you God knows how long, that was my attempt at reaching out. I've always told you from day one that I am not someone like tpstar who will kiss your behind just because you run a website, as a paying customer if anything it should be the other way around, not that I want it (!?) I'll always be right when people are right with me. If you know what's been going on (which you do) you'd say why this happened....

<That was the first of many exceptional actions taken on your account; and this is yet another time I had to make special code to cater soley to you.>

Are you sure about that!? Did it have anything to do with why the police are in touch with you now or is it seriously because one day I woke up and thought "May as well get rid of my username and any mention of my real name from that chess site, no reason why I'm just bored!?". You've told me not to use this forum to complain about other people, well one person, yet the guy who caused <ALL> the recent trouble doing 100x worse than anyone has EVER done on this site, tpstar, just gets word to me that's basically "Hey. Sorry for everything I did but I do believe you about what <Keyser Soze> is doing away from the site now!".

That's your buddy talking about no one's buddy, lol.

Look. If you ban me you ban me but now you'll have to provide the information of whatever the police ask of you whether I'm here or not, and you know that Keyser soze won't be anywhere near the internet soon anyway!? I'm about to go post in the cafe.. If my spider senses are correct there will be about 5 songs about misery and suicide and they'll be aimed at me... because he's obviously a sane person.

Aug-16-16  N0B0DY: <This request of yours to be banned is looking mighty tempting>

<N0B0DY> would regret if you would have given in to the temptation.
