Let's say I want to see <JohnQPublic>'s kibitzes on the <Weaver Adams> player forum. Right now, I can search for <user:"JohnQPublic">, but then I have to sift through *all* of his posts to find the ones I want. I can narrow the list by adding a keyword, but that doesn't help. So, what I'm asking for is a search option along the lines of <user:"JohnQPublic" forum:"Weaver Adams">. Obviously it doesn't have to be set up exactly that way, but that's the functionality I have in mind. ∞ |

 | | chessgames.com: <So, what I'm asking for is a search option along the lines of <user:"JohnQPublic" forum:"Weaver Adams">> I know what you mean, although I think that particular syntax is asking for trouble. (What if there are two Weaver Adams? How specifically correct do you have to write a tournament name for it to be considered a match on that type of thread? What if you want to search the Biographer Bistro? Etc.) However, I think the trick is to just make a "search this forum" feature found on every page where kibitzing exists. |

I asked about this sometime ago.
similiarly, having the ability to list the entire kibitiz history in your own forum would be helpful. (right now, the only latest post is listed, although this appears to be only for forums and not games)still, these types of suggestions are for member-specific issues. although important, any efforts to improve game/chess searching should be prioritized (IMHO). it's still annoying that searching for a specific game is problematic or that the players games are sorted by a primary index only (year). personally, i would like to be able to query your position database directly! you should open up your database(s) with a primitive API, so that folks can contribute/enhance this site. |

similarly, having the ability to list the entire kibitiz history in your own forum would be helpful.> You can do this right now by entering "username:_____" into the Search Kibitzing feature. For example to see everything you've ever posted, in reverse chronological order, I do this: Search Kibitzing <it's still annoying that ... the players games are sorted by a primary index only (year).> This issue was recently addressed! Go look at a player page :-) |
|
| Oct-02-16 | | heuristic: <chessgames: search kibitizing>
yeah, but having just the entries listed on the user's profile page would be useful as an initial step towards searching within a forum. <chessgamees: players games>
that's nice! but it appears that the clustering is by event/locale, true? the tournament games are not sorted by date/round, (AFAI can tell...) <chessgames:priorities>
anyway, my desire is for more chess-specific enhancements. allowing users to search forums for comments by other users seems useful mostly for deplorable purposes. |
|

and I still think that SQL searches on your position database would be fun! |

Oct-02-16
 | | chessgames.com: <but it appears that the clustering is by event/locale, true? the tournament games are not sorted by date/round, (AFAI can tell...)> No, it's sorting purely by MySQL date fields now, and doesn't take the tournament or round # into account whatsoever. MySQL allows for incomplete dates such as 2016-00-00 or 1985-05-00 so there may be times when things appear shuffled in the old fashion, when we don't have proper date information. |

 | | chessgames.com: <Gottschalk> That might be a topic better suited for the Biographer Bistro, or (if you dare) the Robert James Fischer page itself. |
|
| Oct-02-16 | | gauer: http://wy2016.fide.com/pgnf/ has a number of different pgn-source download links, but quite a few players listed at World Youth Championship U18 (Girl's) (2016) (u-<18> women's group) appear to be playing in the <women's u-<16> group> instead (which matches some chess-results tables, too). When searching player-by-player for titled girls in the women's U-18 or U-14 groups, not many appeared in the database, and I didn't notice too many from that group tied to that tid (the 2016 women's wycc u18) link. Not sure if you noticed, so that hopefully the pgn sources are still accessible after its completion - in the case that you decide to add in some other sections (none uploaded by me to PGN Upload Utility this time around). |

Thanks for the tip.
I think I'll prefer Biographer Bistro because I not mastered the English language and I might avoid the several and playful people visiting the Robert James Fischer page.
A serious opinion often is enough, even when it does not make progress... |

 | | chessgames.com: I read online somewhere that Millionaire Chess offers the high stake open chess tournament for every chess player in the world. Kidding aside, yes, it's time for that page. I think it's a wonderful event and Maurice is one of the modern heroes of chess promotion. |

AGON originally claimed to be launching legal action against four websites, but I note this Bloomberg article from March 28th which mentions only chessbomb and chess24: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...
Have AGON served papers yet? I think we should be told.

 | | offramp: I was hoping that sponsors would realise how counter-productive it is trying to hide the moves of a chess match. Do they want the sponsor's name seen or not LOL? Then there's the general ill-feeling caused by the um proprietorial attitude. Hopefully they'll see sense. |
|
Oct-07-16
 | | chessgames.com: That's basically my feeling as well and I'm trying to place it diplomatically in words. During the Candidates some chess players, outraged at AGON's stance, suggested boycotting the sponsors to make them see the light. "Boycotting the sponsors" — let that sink in. If that happened, there'd never be another chess sponsor in the history of the sport. |

 | | offramp: Our site has a minority of paying members. The income derived from the site would not be enough to pay high premiums to view the games of the match. The goodwill generated by allowing free to view to this chess erudite and high spending audience might generate considerable throughput. |

| Oct-08-16 | | whiteshark: <chessgames.com> I hope you are safe and ok despite Hurricane Matthew. In W D Taylor vs J Neumann, 2006 something strange happened - the square a8 is blin♔ in secondly intervals. I've copied the game into chessbase and it's wor♔. I'm using the pgn4web Chess Viewer. Can you solve this mystery? |
|
| Oct-08-16 | | whiteshark: It seems that move <42.> isn't properly written. |
