Nov-10-20  realdumptrump: To credit Stalin with the egg quote is actually a misattribution. The phrase comes from those effete(*) French:

<"On ne saurait faire d'omelette sans casser des œufs" - François Athanase de Charette de la Contrie (1742?)>

https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Josep...

Though attributed to Charette, wikiquote gives a date of 1742, who wasn't born until 1762.

* * * * *

(*) Said tongue-in-cheek, of course.

Nov-10-20  Big Pawn: Just to be clear, I want to ask <Susan>. Are we allowed to make sock puppet accounts now?

I think it would be helpful for the owner of the site to make this nice and clear.

Nov-10-20  realdumptrump: <bippy> is a day late and a dollar short. Everybody knows <Z-truth>.

But as prophesied, neither hide nor hair of the legend <Z> will be seen on <CG>, until Biden assumes office.

.

Nov-10-20  realdumptrump: Just for the record:

<7. The use of "sock puppet" accounts to circumvent disciplinary action taken by moderators, create a false impression of consensus or support, or stage conversations, is prohibited.>

<realdumptrump> isn't circumventing, not simul-casting (aka echoplexing), nor staging false dialogues.

<dumprealdump> is just an alternative fact, tis all!

Nov-10-20  Big Pawn: We will wait to see if <Susan> says it's okay to make socks, because if that's the case, I will make some.

It's in the owner's hands now.

No need. You could just revive <thekingfish>, <aunt jemima>, <mrs. butterworth>, <cassandro>, <hungry jack>, <in the woodpile>, or <muhammad speaks>.

saffuna: <Big Pawn: Just so the moderators know, <realdumptrump> is a sock puppet account for <Zanzibar>. He's using the account to create a false impression of consensus regarding his political arguments, as you can tell by his user name.>

1. <big pawn> himself has used at least eight different usernames on the Rogoff page.

2. <zanzibar> has not posted anything in 18 months, so that strategy would not seem very effective.

perfidious: Why is that poster asking permission? He has, on at least one occasion, threatened to unleash platoons of socks if he did not get his way. It may also be remembered that <it> offered to buy a passel of Premium Memberships to dish out to members if the Rogovian miasma were cleaned up.
Nov-10-20  technical draw: <it would peter out by itself,>

Is this a redundant or superfluous statement?

Signed, TD, grammar slammar.

saffuna: Come on! That's four straight consecutive posts in a row about an insignificant unimportant grammatical language point.
Nov-10-20  technical draw: <saffuna> You're right. Now, let's talk about commas.

You cannot make a sock to avoid being in time out. Period

You can make all the alter egos you want, if the intent is benign. Have fun. Knock yourself out. Be creative Better yet, buy them a premium membership

Sneaky was a sock puppet for Danny 😊
He had a lot of fun with it too

MissScarlett: <A few weeks back I drew attention to:

chessgames.com chessforum (kibitz #34076)

Strangely, the game is now showing properly: Thomas Gordon vs Staunton, 1852

but the SetUp value hasn't been corrected. Has the current version of Olga been tweaked?>

I see now it's still not working correctly when viewed on an IPad. Nothing apparently has been tweaked.

This is where <Annie> is missed. Someone on the front desk to attend to immediate problems and provide a semblance of customer service.

Where's lazy-boy <Cummings>?

  jessicafischerqueen:

<MissScarlett> I know something about that because I too had been submitting a lot of odds games until recently.

I'm not technical but from what I understand, they have patched the "odds game" problem so that your game now displays properly. They did the same for one of my odds games that was not displaying properly.

If I remember correctly, the <Olga man> did post publicly that it was a temporary measure, one that would be permanently fixed with the next <Olga> which is <Olga 2.0>.

That is my understanding of the issue at any rate- it would be good if <Olga man!> and <Steve> posted an update about this, given that they actually know what they are talking about.

These are the relevant posts I was referring to:

I don't know who <Cummings> is. Is he the latest British action star?

I do know that at least three technicians are working on our database at the moment.

<Z> Thank you. I had no idea you were up on the latest English action stars!

I am gratified to learn that the esteemed poet <E.E. Cummings> is helping us on tech work.

Your acronym list is particularly useful. I had been going with <Data Base Sirius Minor> on a provisional basis.

I got that using the "Norwegian - Swedish" google translate and then running that result in turn through the "Norswegian - English" google translate.

  Susan Freeman: In Flanders Fields
BY JOHN MCCRAE

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
