| Jul-29-21 | | Z truth 000000001: Here's the original post I remember:
chessgames.com chessforum (kibitz #15648) Took me a bit to find it. (+1)
(Of course there's nothing really wrong with simply expressing approbation, but I think the idea isn't just to democratize the process, but to also encourage additional content) |

Danke Schoen!
==================
<MissScarlett> While I appreciate you ignoring Germans such as <Richard Wagner>, I am a little disappointed that you did not realize that <Wagner> pilfered his libretto from a British source? Yes, Britain invented Germany. |
|
Jul-31-21
 | | MissScarlett: Well, I know that Wagner's <Parsifal> harks back to Arthurian Britain, and Wales, in partcular. My Dad used to say the Welsh were the true Brits. |

| Jul-31-21 | | Z truth 000000001: Are we doing opera? Tristan and Iseult?!
Everything I learned about opera is here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5vN...
(a fine, fine introduction by Kim Thompson, she of the North) Well, not everything, Bugs helped:

<gezafan: Bobsterman3000 is another guy who disappeared. I wonder what happened to him.> It's a shame <Big Pawn> doesn't post any longer (lol), apparently they used keep in touch via email. |

| Jul-31-21 | | Z truth 000000001: <<gezafan> Bobsterman3000 is another guy who disappeared. I wonder what happened to him.> Bob's head exploded after Kamala was elected VP. As for <tpstar>, I don't want to speak too ill of the dead, but his historian recounting was too often wrong, distorted, or cherry-picked to fit for political (or personal) purposes. He was exception in his ability to squirrel away certain favorite cherries to repeatedly tout out. I will admit he was a long time member who saw a lot, and unlike some on <Rogoff>, had an actual interest in chess. (We both loved tactics it seems.) https://grandrapidschesscenter.org/... https://memorials.starksfamilyfh.co... I |

 | | saffuna: Yes, <tpstar>'s "site history" was highly selective, and often simply false. |
|

 | | gezafan: I looked up some things about <tpstar> on the internet. He was a doctor who helped a lot of people. His patients had a lot of good things to say about him as a doctor. He also taught chess and his students seemed to think highly of him. By all accounts he was a nice guy. There are accounts of him going out of his way to help people. Yet there are posters here trying to tear him down with their comments. Why? He had political beliefs different than theirs. How many of them have done as much in their lives to help people as <tpstar> did in his? |
|
| Jul-31-21 | | Z truth 000000001: Lots have, <gezafan>, lots... People can be a mix though - it's not black vs white as in your world. |
|
Jul-31-21
 | | Susan Freeman: <gezafan> I agree about <tpstar>. Just a good guy, and a gentle man. |
