Probably, but certainly not more than you know that he does not.

<MissScarlett>, like me, is excited about the possibility <zanzibar> might be working for cg.com at some point.

I still think it possible, though he's a bit like <Julius Caesar>- he long ago refused even the idea of becoming an editor, let alone a paid admin.

Interestingly, <zanzibar's> wife's name is <Calpurnia>, and he lives in the hilltop fortress of <Gergovia>.

When asked why he refused to move to Paris or some other less rustic city, <zanzibar> explained "but that's the last place I won a game!"

Good evening.

This message from Gottschalk came in the new uploads "in box" so I pass it along:

<Please, check your email chess@chessgames.com and open my postage Spanish League 2020>

Possibly there is a large load of Spanish League games that he wants to gift us with en masse?

  kingscrusher: Hi Guys

I was curious to find out somewhere of a game of Zaitsev using the Smith-Morra gambit. I have found the game :

[Event "URS-ch36"]
[Site "Alma-Ata"]
[Date "1968.??.??"]
[Round "16"]
[White "Zaitsev, Igor A"]
[Black "Sakharov, Yuri N"]
[Result "1-0"]
[ECO "B21"]
[PlyCount "61"]
[EventDate "1968.12.30"]

1. e4 c5 2. d4 cxd4 3. c3 dxc3 4. Nxc3 Nc6 5. Nf3 d6 6. Bc4 e6 7. O-O Nge7 8. Bg5 a6 9. Qe2 h6 10. Be3 Bd7 11. Rad1 Ng6 12. Nd4 Na5 13. Bxe6 fxe6 14. Qh5 Kf7 15. f4 Nc4 16. Bf2 Rc8 17. f5 Kg8 18. fxg6 Qg5 19. Qh3 Qxg6 20. Rd3 Qe8 21. Rg3 Rh7 22. b3 Nd2 23. Re1 Be7 24. Na4 Bd8 25. Rd3 b5 26. Nc3 Bg5 27. Qg3 e5 28. Nf5 Bf4 29. Qg4 h5 30. Qe2 Bxf5 31. exf5 1-0

I cannot find the tournament here or this game on Chessgames.com - is this potentially a symptom of missing USSR tournaments? It indicates "URS-ch36" - is this a tournament with games that could be added to the site generally?!

I assumed it might be this tournament:

USSR Championship (1968/69)/Alexander Zaitsev

But in Round 16, Zaitsev drew with Podgeats:

[Event "USSR Championship 1968/69"]
[Site "Alma-Ata (Almaty) URS"]
[Date "1969.01.27"]
[EventDate "1968.??.??"]
[Round "16"]
[Result "1/2-1/2"]
[White "Alexander Zaitsev"]
[Black "Mikhail Podgaets"]
[ECO "E11"]
[WhiteElo "?"]
[BlackElo "?"]
[PlyCount "61"]

1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e6 3.Nf3 Bb4+ 4.Bd2 Qe7 5.Nc3 b6 6.e3 Bb7 7.Bd3 O-O 8.O-O d6 9.a3 Bxc3 10.Bxc3 Nbd7 11.Nd2 e5 12.b4 Rfe8 13.a4 Nf8 14.d5 c6 15.Ne4 Nxe4 16.Bxe4 Rac8 17.Bb2 Nd7 18.a5 cxd5 19.Bxd5 Bxd5 20.cxd5 b5 21.Rc1 Nf6 22.Qd3 Qb7 23.e4 a6 24.f3 h6 25.g3 Nd7 26.Kg2 Rc4 27.Rxc4 bxc4 28.Qd2 Rb8 29.Bc3 f5 30.Qe2 Rc8 31.Rb1 1/2-1/2

I am curious where this Zaitsev game exists - some side-line USSR tournament ?!

Any help appreciated - also maybe some opportunity for missing CG games to be added.

kingscrusher: Oh I assume it is the big Swiss tournament they held the year before:

USSR Championship (1967)

It seems quite a few games might be missing from his Swiss tournament.

Mystery solved I think.

kingscrusher: <Tabanus> I have noticed now there are in fact two A. Zaitsev's in the USSR Championship 1968/69

"Alexander Zaitsev"

USSR Championship (1968/69)/Alexander Zaitsev

and

"Igor A Zaitsev"

USSR Championship (1968/69)/Igor A Zaitsev

Got really confused there!
