 | | Tabanus: After about 5 hours I have managed to more or less repair World Rapid Championship (Women) (2021). Why pay a punk for what I do for free. The three other WC events are still fake news. |

Jan-08-22 | | Z truth 000000001: Speaking of <Tab>... Did I mention how informative and valuable this post is? chessgames.com chessforum (kibitz #37131) Very important info (and cautions) for those uploading the most recent tournament games. Plus a totally concur-able conclusion:
<In short: take the games from TWIC! I think that's what Daniel used to do. > Yessireebob! |

Jan-08-22 | | Z truth 000000001: BTW-
Speaking of hiring the best...
Susan, I believe that, once upon a time, you made me a job offer. I've given it much reflection over "due course" (and not only because I need the scratch)... I respectfully decline the offer, though I do appreciate it. I believe it best for each of us to continue for the immediate future on our current trajectories. OTH - I will ask you to consider making me an offer for the sale of the site. I have very limited means, of course, but not so meager as some(*) might believe. I do think the future of the site would benefit, and as you say - I do have good ideas (which the site needs). (*) Not to name names, but the insufferable <Missy> does come to mind. . |

 | | Tabanus: About 20 games of the World Rapid Championship (Women) (2021) were located at World Blitz Championship (Women) (2021) instead. Not so in TWIC. After finally finding that out, I transferred the 20 games one by one. World Rapid Championship (2021) can't be fixed by me. Too many wrong games. It requires an effort from an admin. I suggest to remove all the 1101 games (I can only do that one by one game) and upload again from TWIC. And take it from there (check for N games, game results, and edit standings). If there is one area where CG can improve it must be the current tournaments. Most other web sites report on the new events (with some accuracy), while CG just put up event pages with games where the errors are glaringly obvious, and then do nothing about it. What's the fun with that for the paying reader? |
|
Jan-08-22
 | | Tabanus: CG actually can do better than other websites. Thanks to the new edit standings facility, developed by Daniel & Co., it is easy to spot missing games and wrong game results. Not even TWIC/Crowther has the capacity to find all these. 1) Games from TWIC, 2) sort the players (ordered as in Chess-Results or official site) in CG's standings editor, 3) correct the now easily seen errors. With some practice, this procedure takes an hour or three per event. If this is done on the new events, CG would be <better> than most and not the worst. The CG punks have created a great application, why fill it with crap games? Imagine they started uploading dozens of unchecked Staunton games, and how MissS would react to it. |
|
Jan-08-22
 | | Stonehenge: I think some problems with the standings occur when an intro has been made after the first games are in and before all games are in. Once the first game is in, please don't do anything until all games are in. |

 | | MissScarlett: <I do think the future of the site would benefit, and as you say - I do have good ideas (which the site needs).> Do you envisage a future with or without the insufferable <MissScarlett>? <Imagine they started uploading dozens of unchecked Staunton games, and how MissS would react to it.> I would welcome it, assuing they were genuine, of course. In fact, quite a lot of Staunton games here are unsourced. |

|
Jan-08-22
 | | Tabanus: <Stonehenge> The intro has no influence, it's clicking the Update Standings button before all the games are in. Even then it can be fixed, but it is more work. The real problem is CG is not interested (historically) in neither correct standings, correct game results or correct players. They are like a child, innocently downloading the games from somewhere and that's it. |

 | | Susan Freeman: Ok, boys and girls, Steve is working on a program to facilitate the game uploading.
I have asked Caisso to take a hiatus until we get things right.
There was something else I need to do, but I can’t find it. Please tell me.
This should stop the chaos. |

Simple short overviews that maintain a neutral standpoint are to be preferred anyways. The kibitzing area (as you know best hosting this 'lively' admin forum) is far better suited as emotional 'playing ground' for all kind of 'interesting ideas' or council. Taking up Willber's thought some names coming to mind fact checking a separate 'CG paragraph' are User: Honza Cervenka (an architect's view), User: MikhailGolubev (player's perspective), User: ray keene (placement in the chess world) Again certain bio parts are not static at all (later additions possible) and there is never pressure or expectations for a Pulitzer either (quite the opposite). Just give the man a coherent overall approach. He was not an overly dramatic character, I am sure Daniel himself and most of the sane visitors will be fine with it. No worries. Sometimes the unthinkable works best so why not call up Sargon [Mr. C.] one last time, make peace with whatever fighting happened last year and ask for his input?

 | | Tabanus: <Steve is working on a program to facilitate the game uploading.> Doesn't help if you do nothing with the uploaded games. From 2022 on, it will be an erroneous heap of games and no event intros. CG's favorite way. |
