Domdaniel: Maurice Kennefick died over the new year, 2018-2019. RIP. It was many years since I spoke to him. He gave up chess, I reckon, towards the end of the 80s, though even after that he was sometimes lured out for club games. I still regard this game, even after so many years, as the ...

   Jan-06-19 Maurice Kennefick (replies)

Domdaniel: Kennefick died over the 2018-19 New Year. Formerly one of the strongest players in Ireland, he was the first winner of the Mulcahy tournament, held in honour of E.N. Mulcahy, a former Irish champion who died in a plane crash. I played Kennefick just once, and had a freakish win, ...

Domdaniel: <NBZ> -- Thanks, NBZ. Enjoy your chortle. Apropos nothing in particular, did you know that the word 'chortle' was coined by Lewis Carroll, author of 'Alice in Wonderland'? I once edited a magazine called Alice, so I can claim a connection. 'Chortle' requires the jamming ...

Domdaniel: <HMM> - Heh, well, yes. I also remembered that Chuck Berry had a hit with 'My Ding-a-ling' in the 1970s. I'm not sure which is saddest -- that the author of Johnny B. Goode and Memphis Tennessee and Teenage Wedding - among other short masterpieces - should sink to such ...

Long live the immortal Bobby Fischer. For further chess discussion I am "jackgenth" on yahoo IM. For role playing I am "SubmissiveSurka", and if you have any maintnence issues with any John Deer tractor thats pre 1995 I can answer your questions on yahoo as, "IKnowALotAboutJohnDeerTractors,ParticularlyOnesM- adePre- 1995." >

Hmmmm...

Tough call. But this Profile is in the <top five> of people from the Net I'd never agree to meet at Starbucks.

Dec-16-08  Woody Wood Pusher: < Domdaniel: <Woody> I 'met' Priscilla, but it was a much less intimate affair than my tete-a-tete with Tom'n'Nic. It was a press conference in London to promote a Naked Gun movie - and you're right, she was only 40-something. But she looked at least 15 years younger.>

Thanks for the memories <Dom>! Looks like you have all the fun!

I'm a big fan of the Naked Gun movies, and Leslie Nielsen!

He is such a great comedy actor.

I remember in the DVD extras there is an interview with the people that worked on the movies and one of the things they said was that, looking back on the films, OJ's performance has actually gotten funnier and funnier!

haha

And that was well before this recent brush with the law.

I wonder if he they will have copies to watch in prison?

that shower scene might turn out to be less satirical than OJ would want.

At least you'd have a fair warning when the tractor pulled up outside.

While <Batchimeg> could discuss <Classic Tractor Movies> such as David Lynch's *Old Guy's Mini-tractor Odyssey* and the immortal soviet yarn <How the Heroic People's Collective Built Tractor Number 10,347>.

Not to mention Herzog's *Tractor Trilogy*: Aguirre, Tractor of God; Even Dwarves Started Tractors; and Fitcarraldo's Zetor, about an Irishman building a tractor factory in Amazonia.

There's also <The Deere Hunter> but it might cause Nam flashbacks in the subject, who has clearly spent time in an underwater cage.

Domdaniel: True. Something like "Deere, Deere. I'm leaving you for Humbert Humbert, an old old friend I met in Baden Baden in 1919. We have a date for 2020. He knows - knows - how to treat a woman. A woman. Dear dear. PS. So get down off your high tractor, bud."

Like Dick Dick's <The Man in the High Tractor> ...

Dec-17-08  Ziggurat: <Norberg> Glad to see it mentioned. The town of Norberg has this minimalist laptop electronica festival every year in an old factory that has been renovated in a really cool way. I went there 2006, I think, and had a jolly good time.

Science:

<Clusters of galaxies are a good way to look at the effects of dark energy because they are <<<"cosmic frogs">>> that are sensitive to small changes, Turner said. Our galaxy, the Milky Way, is not in a cluster but we are not too far from the Virgo cluster.>

HAHAHAHA

<Dom> Didn't you form a <Maximalist Lap Top Synth Band called "Cosmic Frog" in the 80s?>

Whis is this <Turner> fellow? Did he man the sound board?

Domdaniel: HYFIN took me a while. I had the right idea about two hours ago, but tried multiplying atomic numbers (doh!) rather than just putting them in sequence. Phew.

<Jess> Turner. Painter chappie. Some of his stuff is so fragile they only show it in January 'when the light is weak'. Sounds dodgy to me.
