jessicafischerqueen: The link to <CC's> game is the name <Luke Allen> at the top of his profile.
Jun-22-07  chessmoron: <Tactic101> You better solve my puzzle or Homer here is beating you.
Jun-22-07  Tactic101: Solved. But it's quite short. Maybe only 8/10 standard. I'm too tired from jet lag to make it more intricate....
Jun-22-07  Tactic101: I'm interested. Would any of us like to create Ferocious Beast 2 in honour of his memory? It woud sure give us some laughs.
Jun-22-07  MostlyAverageJoe: <chessmoron: <Tactic101> You better solve my puzzle or Homer here is beating you.>

ARRRGH. And here I was, feeding to <Tactic> an analysis of his game with <Jess>, hoping he'd get distracted and slip just once, so I could retire from your puzzles after getting to the top.

But noooo, Mr. Conan just *had* to pipe up and remind him.

MAJ, going away to sulk.

Jun-22-07  Tactic101: Don't worry. I'll probably be off-line for the next one, finishing by holdiay homework and playing basketball. Feel that you really have earned the first place (you started later and you've gotten full marks for all your answers). You definately are my role model for puzzle solving.

jessicafischerqueen: Yo <Durango> it's pretty late. You're not playing drunk again, are you?

I hope you're in for the Long Haul.

Check this baby out. Ours will probably go longer.

Kasparov vs Karpov, 1990

(C45) Scotch Game, 102 moves, 1-0

Jun-22-07  Karpova: <jessicafischerqueen>

I don't know if you already saw it but I collected some games: Game Collection: Apocalypse now - Chess, Controversy and charges There had been disputes and <cg.com> didn't delete most of them it seems.

Like in the first one with <LMAJ> accusing <Benjamin Lau> (long gone, thanks to <LMAJ> i.e., see his profile) of sending him a virus.

The greatest one ever was the Schinkman game (I think that's the way he was called): <LMAJ> had a game in this database he had allegedly played against a man called <Robert Schinkman> (correspondence chess) and won. Now the game turned out to be almost identical to this one: Dubois vs Steinitz, 1862 (there's still some kibitzing about it) and in the end the game was deleted. Sure, not because it had been proven to be a fake (hard to prove) but because it caused too much trouble.

No Robert Schinkman could be found in the cc databases (he "had" a rating of around 1950) but <LMAJ> "remembered" his trash talk during the game.

jessicafischerqueen: <Karpova> fascinating history. I don't quite understand why <CG.com> doesn't just get rid of this outrageous man?

Do you think he's paying them off or something?

Thank you very much for the links, I'm going to look at them for sure.

Jun-22-07  Karpova: I don't think so. I guess they consider his input to be of value. At least, he's a Lifemaster.

And every titled player draws more attention to the forum. So <hayton3> was the one who got banned.

I don't deny that he's a strong chessplayer and that's what <cg.com> is also looking for. But he's also a bit choleric (he regularly went ballistic whenever tried to <discuss> his analyses - even if they were polite).

And whatever he publishes on his homepage - they don't care as long as he doesn't post anything like that on this website. So their decision makes sense especially due to the fact they they are not directly involved in all of those controversies.

Not that I think it was good the way it is. But it's understandable.

Jun-22-07  refutor: a bit choleric?!? surely you jest... ;)
Jun-22-07  samikd: <BTW your Queen will be moving back and forth a lot for the next while.>

Oh my gosh you are right ! Instead of saving your Bishop you can attack my queen again with Bg4 ! Then I will have to move my queen again (my be to a5 or somewhere) . Damn ! How did I miss this intermediate move ? I should've played Qc6 or something in the first place ! :(

Jun-22-07  samikd: <Yo <Durango> it's pretty late>

Yo <jessfish> it's never too late to talk to you :)

Jun-22-07  Tactic101: To be frank, in the end, it was hayton3 and his little friends who were throwing the insults. And they were not in any way interested in punishing him for his behavior on this site and his outragous views. They were just looking to make fun of the guy, have a laugh at his own expense. Not what I would call very nice. And AJ softened up quite a bit later on, but the insults kept coming. A sad era for chessgames.com.
Jun-22-07  Tactic101: Jess, do you know of any world class players who play the Dutch often?
Jun-22-07  Eyal: <I fail to see how a computer could find moves, a plan like <Van Wheely> did in this game. The way he maintained the tension with a cool head, like a terrier who won't let go of a rat even though you beat him over the head.>

Going over this game with Fritz, I can tell you it has a problem finding 11.Neg5, but after that it indicates immediately all of Van Wely's moves as the best ones - with the important exception of 21.Qf3? (instead of 21.Ne7+!), which was actually a blunder and should have allowed Jakovenko to equalize at least (see my post on the game page).

Jun-22-07  Eyal: Btw, the game with <Tactic101> as posted in your profile should have 31.<Rg6+> instead of 31.Kg6+, and <32>.h6 instead of 33.h6.

Doesn't this prove how brilliant <Wheeler> is? Tell me you didn't find the game amazing.

Heh. thanks for corrections again.

What a great position.

<Qe2> I'm NEVER EVER moving my dark square bishop. You'll have to take him instead.

Now would be a good time. Really.

Trust me.

I will try <Re1>. Then you castle. Then I unleash my "novelty."

then you lose.

Simple Chess!

Jun-22-07  Ragh: I castle as you predicted. Can't wait to see the novelty. If it is good, then I will use takeback according to the <Jessica rule> ;)

TheAlchemist: <any world class players who play the Dutch often?>

The Dutch was a regular throughout the whole Botvinnik-Bronstein match.

Besides them, the opening explorer has also Bent Larsen, Igor Glek, Evgeni Vasiukov, Igor Malaniuk, as some of the main proponents. I play it too, so if you want (just got beat up heavily in a recent game), we could discuss it sometimes, I like hearing others' thoughts.

Also, some game collections I found:

Game Collection: Neil McDonald: Starting Out: The Dutch, Game Collection: dutch stonewall, Game Collection: tgk1982's favorite dutch games, Game Collection: Dutch defense, Game Collection: RickL's favorite games Dutch, Game Collection: Mating Net's Dutch Doozies
