jessicafischerqueen: Also I'm having a massive anxiety attack because in one week I'm going to be 7000 miles away from anyone I ever knew.

And the school "orientation" includes canooing?

why yes, yes it does.

Are there alligators in Korea?

I didn't sign up for canooing!!

I just couldn't face a <French> so early in the morning.

I prefer a <non continental breakfast>.

(a real game I played on Yahoo)>

Aug-16-07  Eyal: Yeah, the French can be a deadly weapon sometimes (F Camaratta Jr vs A Savage, 1991).
Aug-16-07  Eyal: Btw, if you like this type of games check out Game Collection: Bartleby the Scrivener plays Chess

Many happy seconds collected here, I should think.

jessicafischerqueen: Hi <Doctor> yes I'm pretty much good to go I fly out in week exactly.

I'm just waiting to get my VISA stamped on my passport. That will be done Tuesday at the latest.

I'm all packed even already.

But I"m freaking out!!

Aug-17-07  achieve: All I can do is wish you the best!

Enjoy your flight, and everything that follows!

In the mean time catch a few games here or elsewhere.

If you feel crowded don't hesitate..

Best,
Niels.

jessicafischerqueen: Thanks <Niels> I don't know what I'd do without you.

Luckily, I don't have to!!

I will soon be "online" in Korea.

But it might take a week or two.

Course I don't leave for ONE WEEK yet.

Aug-18-07  achieve: Something confuses me..

In Holland we say <Visum>, not the plural VISA, which is the word in English..

And the plural of forum is forums, as Jess explained to me once, and not <fora>..

Shouldn't it be VISUM? Am I missing something here? (I suspect so..)

Aug-18-07  JoeWms: We'll be neighbors: I live near San Daegu.

Aug-18-07  achieve: <jessicafischerqueen: Greetings to all this evening from <Castle Argghghhhh>> Thank you!

Is that here?

I live only three blocks away! At castle <HArumph>

Aug-18-07  ahmadov: Hi <jessica>, I heard some lunatics are cleverer than some GMs... Do you agree with that?
Aug-18-07  Ziggurat: Some lunatics <are> GMs!
Aug-18-07  ahmadov: <Ziggurat: Some lunatics <are> GMs!> Interesting...
Aug-18-07  brankat: "No chess grandmaster is normal; they only differ in the extent of their madness."

– Viktor Korchnoi.

Aug-18-07  Zebra: <achieve: In Holland we say <Visum>, not the plural VISA, which is the word in English..>

Excellent question. I have discovered the following:

<VISA. 1831, "official signature or endorsement on a passport," from Fr. visa, from Mod.L. charta visa "verified paper," lit. "paper that has been seen," from fem. pp. of L. videre "to see" (see vision). Earlier visé (1810), from Fr. pp. of viser "to examine, view.">

jessicafischerqueen: <forums> and <fora> are both used in English.

Neither is "incorrect."

I believe the proper plural of <Visum>, however, is <Vice Grips> if I'm not mistaken.

Aug-18-07  ahmadov: <brankat: "No chess grandmaster is normal; they only differ in the extent of their madness." – Viktor Korchnoi.> I wonder what is the extent of Korchnoi's madness...

jessicafischerqueen: Hi <Ahmadov> yes these are the lunatics in question.

Moon lovers and chess players, mainly.

I don't know if any of them are GMs, but I should think it likely.

In my imagination, I have just been awarded the title of <International Master>.

Not in "reality," though.

But who's do say what's real in these days with so many new ideas, and fine consumer products?

  jessicafischerqueen: <San Daegu>, is it?

I went there once!!

I went to see the <gorillas> at the "Zu".

Pretty impressive "Zu" you have there.

  jessicafischerqueen: <Branko>

yes, and you remind me of the last line from <Bridge on the River Kwai>, a very fine <chess movie> with no mention of chess in it:

"Madness..."

jessicafischerqueen: Heh <Korchnoi> is still playing strong chess.

I wish I had some of his <madness>.

Really, I wouldn't mind beig insane if it would improve my game.
