 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Branko> yes I'll have the same email address. But this hotel is just for one night.
In 6 hours I'll be whisked off to a <communist orientation compound> with the other teachers. After a week's orientation (involving hiking), I will get an apartment and my <Korean sponsor teacher> will order a phone and INernet provider for me. Also a bank account and a trip to the Immigration authorities to get registered as an "alien." Heh. Then if my Lap top boots, I'll be back online.
Might be up to two weeks from now though.
but I have no idea what's going to happen really.
I deliberately didn't read the <orientation package> I got cuz I wanted everything to be a surprise. I'm just thinking now that might have been kind of stupid... I'm thinking of finding an American soldier to date just so I can buy all kinds of good stuff at the PX. There are giant American military bases in all the big cities here. There are three of them in Daegu alone. |

| Aug-25-07 | | Ragh: <Jess> The next part of your travel blog should be on how you cope with the newfangled <Jet Lag> you'll be experiencing. Also, how was it like doing time travel... trespassing over the International date line.. and finally the case of the "missing day" in life. |

 | | Domdaniel: <Jess> We have continuity ... excellent. I totally agree with Branko about your perceptiveness, though I'm not surprised. <Every single thing is open all night here. And yet there is no noise.WHAT KIND OF CITY IS THIS??? >

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Soon they will knock at my door for communist re-education training. |
|
| Aug-25-07 | | JoeWms: Nobody in the Koreas is interested in a new Canadian alien's mail. If they did have tech know-how to read you, I think they would get a kick out of your funny <trigger> phrases, "Communist training program," "Communist orientation camp," and "communist orientation compound." You can delete my post if you want.

 | | jessicafischerqueen: I never delete your posts <Joe>. I just met some of my fellow teachers. All different shapes and sizes, bound by a common total ignorance of all things Korean. |

| Aug-26-07 | | WBP: <Jess> It's very late here, I just got home, I have a billion people I need to contact on this site (Hi <Ragh>--thanks for the Hi)but can't tonight, and have had 36 hours of extreme ups and down, but I did want to say that I'm so glad you made it there OK and in one piece, and that your accounts of the city so far are quite fascinating. Maybe you and <CC> could collaborate in the future on travel writing! (That being his eventual goal.) |

| Aug-26-07 | | achieve: <I totally agree with Branko about your perceptiveness, though I'm not surprised.> Me neither. I would do the exact same thing when faced with new surroundings -- total focus, sensory feast (eyes, ears, smell, touch) This is indeed a sort of blog/diary and it would be fascinating if you'd write down all your experiences and put them together as a whole. (got lost in translation there..) Good luck at the "com-pound", Jess! ;-) |

 | | Domdaniel: <Then if my Lap top boots> Thigh-high footwear? Some kind of dance? A Finnish heritage ethnic exchange routine? I'm confused again. Those 'Zep' people erred on the side of caution. You know sometimes things have three meanings. What I tell you three times is true, as the Bellman sez. <Jeffica> Keep observing on all available channels for subsequent data dump stop Results so far fascinating stop amazing stop wonderful stop no don't stop stop ... |

| Aug-26-07 | | tud: Amazing are you in North Korea ? Wow , how do you find it ? Hope you will be back soon and not too freaked out . |
|
Aug-27-07
 | | Domdaniel: <tud> -- <Wow , how do you find it ? > From North America, just head east until you see it sort of sticking out from China. Avoid Kamchatka (too far north), Singapore (too far south) and Madagascar (you've overshot). If starting from anywhere else, don't. |
|
| Aug-28-07 | | Dr.Lecter: Hey jess. Long time no see (or kibitz, on my account anyways). I see you landed in Korea safely. Congratulations. Good luck on your new job and jet lag. God bless! |
