| May-09-09 | | achieve: <I predict you become a ferocious member of your new team. Possibly you might face <Manju> in a game?> Thanks, heh - I'd love to meet him, and play him... Maybe meeting the person, and getting to know him personally, would mean the most to me, as I have the highest regard for <Majnu> following his vids, and his YT Channel, and Blog. From watching and listening to those I think he is a man with a most pleasing "disposition" (if that is a correct term in this context). |

| May-09-09 | | achieve: <Jess> One problem I still have is to get my energy and performance level UP in the evening 8-12 PM timeslot. I am at my best by far in the mornings, and need to get a regimen going that allows me to re-charge, for a high level evening performance. I know this may sound sissy but just something I want to get a grip on, in general, too. Anyhoo. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: I'm exactly the same- which is why I can never play serious chess after work. On Weekends and holidays, I'm up as early as 6:00 AM preparing for a game, which I usually play around 8:00 AM. NOON is the latest I'll ever start a serious game of chess. That was also the one thing about my chess club was of course like all of them they are on a weeknight evening. With tournaments on the weekend when they have them.
I haven't played in a touranment since Primary School and I'm dying to do it again. I will have to be patient...

| May-09-09 | | achieve: Depends on wether you'll extend your contract and stay in Korea, no? Last night I played very up and down, in the two rapids (20min/game each), and just drew from will power to get a good showing in that second... I mean really... Two 20/0 games... Very nice man though, and he buried his head a few times after a good series of moves of mine, and he fought back. I loved it. With the odd look and nod... one or two words exchanging... So completely, emm, different and distant from online anonymous chess. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: It's totally different.
Night and day- I play so much better OTB than on the internet it's frustrating in fact. Brilliant <Niels>-- sounds like you are already well back in the saddle. I'm going to re--sign as they are offering me an "offer I can't refuse", financially speaking. I plan to spend my whole raise on saving it in the bank so I can save up enough to retire to <Holland> and play chess for the rest of my life. I will live happily under a bridge there. |
|
| May-09-09 | | achieve: Well, I hope things will work out the way you see them developing, cept for the under the bridge part. You can just go to your doctor (GP) here and say you keep hearing voices, and keep at it, annoy them to death- and you'll be sheltered, cost free, with all kinds of extra features and at-home-counseling, if you make sure you're well insured for health care. Kidding aside, you'd easily fit in in the culture, there is none, well, here IS a chess culture, but really The Netherlancs is doing quite well overall compared to say the relative mess you can find in most european countries. According to some studies and figures. Go with the flow and there's nothing wrong with a goooood bridge. But for ... |
|
| May-09-09 | | achieve: PS <Jess> - I think being financially independent and well-off, is very important and a good strategy for a woman in your position, as far as i can judge. Probably the right choice that you re-signed (pun material there). |

I tried to watch the video you linked, but it wasn't there- only this message: <The URL contained a malformed video ID. > I'm sorry to hear about your parents divorcing- I can't imagine that was an easy experience for you. |

5. Nc3 a6
6. Bc4 e6
7. Bb3 b5
click for larger viewNow, <8.f4> is not played much from here any more- this may be one of the reasons- 8.f4 b4!
 click for larger view9.Na4 Nxe4!?!
click for larger viewThis <9...Nxe4> variation was favored by <Petrosian> in an analysis session with <Tal>, <Averbakh>. and <Koblencs> to help <Tal> in his preparation with the Black pieces against <Fischer> in their last meeting at the <Bled Candidate's Tournament> in 1959. Here is <Tal> trying to prove why it's safe for black to nab the pawn here, and <Fischer> trying to prove why it's not safe-- Fischer vs Tal, 1959
At any rate, White almost always plays
<8.o-o> in this setup- <Bobby> himself began favoring this move over <8.f4>, in fact- Although if you take a good look at this game, you'll see that <Fischer> actually got a decent advantage out of the <8.f4> variation in this particular contest. He lost though. |
|
| May-10-09 | | Eyal: <Jess> I especially like Petrosian's deep strategic reasoning for choosing this line: "Such a nice little central pawn... hmmm, hmmm... I think I would take it". Btw, 8...b4 followed by 9...Nxe4 is indeed very risky for Black - I believe the main reason why the idea of quickly pushing the f-pawn before castling went out of fashion for White is rather because of 8...Bb7(!), when Black continues development instead of immediately grabbing the pawn. This was in a large measure due to Fischer's own play in R Byrne vs Fischer, 1967. Also, you raise some very deep issues in your post at my place, especially with regard to lower case vs. capital letters - I'll have to think about them for a while. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Yes well spotted <Karaffa>! I did notice that the <9...Nxe4> is rare in our database as well as <8.f4> being rare. Thanks for the link and the Opening Theory info- I'm going in to investigate... |

| May-11-09 | | FICSwoodpusher: Hello JFQ, I think there was a bit of confusion earlier when we spoke on FICS.
Perhaps you thought I was someone else.
I didn't get the owl reference and I probably didn't contribute to any puzzle solutions (although I could have and then forgotten about it, as I told you I have a terrible memory!). I hope you enjoy your games on FICS and perhaps we could play a game sometime. |

Maybe YOU already bought every chess book in Toronto? I will be through T DOT again.
I lived there for a spell before- I had a blast.
We went out to see bands on <Cool Cween Street West> every night. |

I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to see that video you posted here, but like I said it didn't work. So you play on <gameknot>? Do you recommend it?
Have you played on FICS? |
