 | | jessicafischerqueen: Wacka I'm going downtown to party with my friends so I'll have to answer these mails later when I'm drunk. (looks like I picked a bad decade to quit sniffing glue) |

 | | Annie K.: <Jess> second part looks good. Didja get my notes on the first? Just checkin' cuz this particular subject has a high risk of landing in one's spam folder... for some reason. ;s Also, while I'm here, <All About Eve> has my vote too - I <did> actually watch a few movies back when I still watched movies. :p |

 | | Annie K.: On second thought... I do have a comment on part 2 I'm gonna send you shortly - so if you see two notes, you're not necessarily seeing double. :) |

| Aug-16-10 | | crawfb5: <Jess> If you're casting about for yet another video bio subject, think about George Henry Mackenzie. John Hilbert, no slouch in the chess history department, wrote about a decade ago that Mackenzie deserved a good biography: http://www.chessarch.com/excavation.... AFAIK, no one's done a book on him yet. |

| Aug-17-10 | | LIFE Master AJ: Right now <hopefully> Jess (and "her team") are hard at work doing research for her latest project ... on none other than H.N. Pillsbury. |

[http://www.lifemasteraj.com/old_af-... but here is one way that you could describe this game: "The great Tarrsch ... and the unknown Pillsbury meet in R2. (Pillsbury had already lost to the great Tchigorin the first round ... and the Russian master seemed destined to run away with this event ... at least in the early stages of the tournament.)" "Pillsbury played his patented QP, and then placed a Knight on e5. Meanwhile Tarrasch strongly counter-attacked on the Q-side. Eventually, Tarrasch would gain two connected, passed Pawns on the Q-side. Pillsbury's attack ... which seemed to be coming in 'waves' ... finally crested when the game had reached the point of maximum tension. Tarrasch took a seemingly <free> piece ... and found himself the victim of a mating attack." "The great Tarrasch did not go quietly, having given up his Queen to stop the mate, he now had several dangerous passed Pawns supporting an active Rook. Yet, in time pressure, (again); he overlooked his opponent's threats and allowed Pillsbury an easy mate." "While the two players could not have been aware of it, they had just created one of the greatest chess masterpieces of the whole of the 19th century." |

| Aug-17-10 | | crawfb5: <Jess> I'm working on the player thumbnails for <Lake Hopalong>. I think I went a little overboard for <Geza Pyramid>. Anyway, I've been nosing around for stuff for <Edward> Lasker, AKA <Lasker the Lesser>. Here's a quote from the <Wicked-pedia> entry on him: <In 1921-23, he invented a mechanical breast pump, which saved many premature infants' lives and made Lasker a lot of money, although it caused his friends to refer to him facetiously as "the chest player."> I'm still laughing at this... |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: My Good <The Good Anarchist> I really can't thank you enough for that Bobby's birthday correction. I think the reason for my gaffe is simpler than you suspect. I can't accurately subtract 60 from 1943, whilst carrying over the 17.8 sum. It's a maths problem beyond my ken. |

| Aug-19-10 | | hms123: <Aug-19-10 polarmis>: I've just translated an article that was written by Chigorin's daughter on the 50th anniversary of his death. The Russian chess columnist who recently came across it doesn't think it was ever published in Russian, and I've never seen it mentioned in English. It's a fascinating insight into Chigorin's personality and his life outside of chess: http://www.chessintranslation.com/2... |

| Aug-20-10 | | Travis Bickle: <jessicafischerqueen: That Beatles clip has amazing pixil resolution --I just zoomed in to see Paul's nose hairs and clear as day. Great concert footage. Travis why did they stop touring? Hard to believe that would be Paul's idea.> The Beatles toured around the globe at least twice! They were road weary and they all thought there musicianship was suffering from not hearing what they were playing and also from playing the same 20 songs or so for 3 years. Another reason they decided to stop touring was their growing musical sophistication could not be duplicated on stage, as today rock bands with state of the art electronics can produce any music or sounds they want, to almost duplicate their studio albums. A major reason that added to the desire to stop touring was a terrible experience they ahd in The Phillipines. Emelda Marcos invited The Beatles to the Presidential Palace to play for their guests! The Beatles who had 1 day off a month said no. The Marcos were offended and put on Phillipino television & in the newspapers The Beatles rejected the Royal Family causing a riot like atmosphere in the country. I have a clip on this below.

| Aug-20-10 | | LIFE Master AJ: < <<Aug-19-10> <jessicafischerqueen:>> <<OH yes and we are indeed doing a documentary on <Nezhmetdinov>- I've ordered two books on him but they won't arrive for a month or more.>
So your work on him will also be a GIANT HELP.> Eventually we can get around to every single great player. <Might take a few years though.> > Hee-hee. Keep on plugging, pretty lady. Meanwhile, I am in your corner. AND! ... let me know how I can be of any help! **************
FYI I am downloading "fresh" (un-annotated) copies of all of Pillsbury's games from Hastings, 1895. I am trying to take about a half hour and go over each one ... WITHOUT any engines!!! (Then I do it again with Fritz 12 and see what I missed.) I am also taking out all my old chess books and re-reading any annotations or stories that have to do with Pillsbury. Anyway, its slow going. But as I finish my synopsis of each game, I will definitely post it here - and you are free to use any of that in your video. Of course, I have already annotated several of Pillsbury's games, I felt the first thing that I should do is find all of these pages and then update them. I definitely want to try and finish one NEW web page before the video comes out ... ... ... but - at this point - I have no idea which Pillsbury game I should do. (I am open to suggestions.) |

| Aug-20-10 | | LIFE Master AJ: Jess:
Just spent several hours re-doing this web page ... there were MANY busted links! http://www.lifemasteraj.com/old_af-... This is definitely one of Pillsbury's greatest games ... played in the twilight of his career. |
