Mar-08-11  achieve: <I happen to like or even love a lot of people who hold views I strongly disagree with.> Wanted to compliment you on that, because of the candidness and truth it contains, and perhaps add a few closely related points I just thought about.

In my view the friendships that have developed here over the years show many sides and shades of each one of those personalities, their convictions, insecurities, expert knowledge from different fields and walks of life.... But there's one common element typifying us, and which also ensures that we are able to see eachother as rough diamonds, where you sometimes say "ouch!", that really hurts, offends or disappoints me, allowing you to contemplate your own convictions and insecurities.

That element is indeed "love", in several of it's meanings, and various colourings.

We all have this duality of light and darkness within us, to carry, (and it's a heavy load, burden, I assure you)- squaring off for domination in this or that situation, almost continuously. Yet the difficulty is that it mostly takes place in the sub-conscious, meaning there's heroism in those who are able to show their inner workings, but take care and put in energy to remain with their souls in-tact, thus also realizing we are all in the same boat, not <despite>, but <because of> our differences-- if that's the correct term or characterization.

Hence, one can roughly distinguish between two kinds of people:

- those who are willing and able to confront, yet keep exercising a healthy dose of self reflection, humility, forgiveness, and are able to take out and learn from the experience, and move on...

- and those who hold on to their resentments, don't know when and how to forgive, love, or don't want to any more, and grow bitter. More bitter with each passing year, until they pass away, un-loved, and unable to have given love.

The latter, the worst of those, are the dangerous types, and the psychopaths who threaten our human existence, and draw a sick satisfaction from other people's sufferings, many times at their own egotistical, material, gain.

I think people like AJ and JFQ fall into the first "category".

I'm doing what I can to maintain my integrity, but I often slip up, sometimes severely, but my intention will be to repair the damage, apologize, and move on. Within reason, <my> reason, ironically. It's the rough, multi-faceted diamonds, that draw my attention and care.

SwitchingQuylthulg: <jessicafischerqueen: I realize <AJ> responds in kind, but this vicious circle just goes on and on and why don't they just leave the guy alone? That would end it. >

Why don't you tell <Life Master AJ> this? If <AJ> stopped insulting people who disagree with him or happen to criticize his play, that would go a long way towards ending "it". If <AJ> stopped claiming grandmasters who beat him in random blitz games absolutely must have been cheating, that would go a long way towards ending it. If <AJ> had the basic decency to apologize after doing something wrong (such as, say, spreading around the completely baseless word that the upcoming HB Global Chess Challenge (2005) is a sham tournament masterminded by master scammer Maurice Ashley that doesn't have any money ready), or (even better) didn't do things like that in the first place, that would go quite some way towards ending it.

<I'm also grateful to <AJ> for his years and years of service to chess history and analysis. I've been reading and using his web pages for years, and often include his work in my chess history videos.>

One of <AJ>'s leading enemies at the moment is User: FSR, and his services and contributions to chess most certainly don't pale in comparison to <AJ>'s. Just a week ago you wrote that <Wikipedia is getting better and better on their chess entries>. Well, that's largely thanks to <FSR>. Every day thousands of people look up something chess-related at Wikipedia and read things <FSR> wrote. Over the years, he has been one of Wikipedia's most valuable chess editors, certainly in the top five or so. He was the first editor ever to be awarded the Wikipedia Chess Barnstar.

Maybe you should be at least a little bit grateful to him, too?

SwitchingQuylthulg: <achieve: <Switch> are you on some sort of mission here?

<jessicafischerqueen> seems to be at a loss as to why so many otherwise sensible people dislike <Life Master AJ> so much. I'm in a position to explain because I understand exactly why this should be the case. I would note, in passing, that questioning people's motives is seldom considered particularly polite.

Mar-08-11  achieve: <switch> I wasn't questioning your motives, simply inquiring, as I am not informed on any of the info you bring forth.

Contrarily, I was being more than just "polite", but "honest" and transparant, by informing you of my "curiosity." You read too much in the word "motive", I assume. It has both positive and negative connotations. Don't start again misinterpreting my motives, it's happened repeatedly in the past, so let's keep it a thing of the past.

I'm completely honest with you here, so let's lighten up. ;)

As I said no more word from me on this, thanks for informing me, and good luck with what you're attempting to do.

SwitchingQuylthulg: <achieve: let's keep it a thing of the past.>

That, as far as I can tell, is what we're both trying to do and both assuming the other is failing to do. A past can be a nasty thing when it influences our thoughts in the present.

I'd prefer not asking exactly when I supposedly "repeatedly misinterpreted" your motives as that would involve digging up yet more past, but I don't recall ever publicly assigning any motives to you, whether correct or incorrect. Total disagreement with both your opinions on that particular topic and the way in which you made them known, yes; some quite offensive stuff written as a result, yes; misassigned motives, no. To your credit I don't recall you posting wild stuff about my motives, either.

Mar-08-11  achieve: Thanks. Right on the mark, <switch>. Can't possibly agree more, and we can not live up to 100% neutrality, thank goodness, we're human beings. That's what I conveyed in my lengthy post earlier. We really don't have the time nor energy nor need to "dig up stuff", as you worded very well.

Besides that, Jessica doesn't appreciate bickering here in her forum, of any kind, and wouldn't tolerate that, so an added explanation that my motive in asking you was primarily inquisitive in nature, not judgmental.

You're of course always welcome at my forum, ok I leased it, if you'd want any clarification, or info on anything for that matter.

jessicafischerqueen: <Thanh Phan> ok let's reconstruct part of it together- you are correct, the translation is a little hard to follow.

This is true for Russian as well on the Google translator. In my limited experience, the Google Translator is very easy to follow with Spanish/Italian/German/French into English.

Here, first two paragraphs:

<Village chess with Vietnam, Le Quang Liem player to successfully defend the title of International Chess Championship 2011 Aeroflot, besides fun, is "broken skin rush" to help those who are responsible for the possible the treatment of water sports very much ...

Many people, of which we tried to ask: If the family does not have transparent investment conditions for their children to learn foreign experts in Phan Thiet with the "fees" 200USD/ngay (in 2 consecutive weeks), as well as concerns a trip, "said" expensive to St Petersburg (Russia) receptor Alexander Khalifman teachers with former world championship, the transparent material have been as successful as today?>

I get the basic gist here but just a bit- the problem is non-idiomatic phrases which I cannot understand-

Mainly "the treatment of water sports" and "transparent".

Does transparent mean "accessible"? As in, if Viet Players can have "access" to sufficient funds to travel to international tournaments?

PS- I recently posted a copyright-free photo link for THE VIET CHAMPION!! on the admin forum but they ignored it= I think they should put a photo on his player page <Le Quang Liem> the "Tiger of Vietnam".

If you- a Vietnamese person- asked that a photo be uploaded on GM Le Quang Liem's page, I bet they would listen to you.

What a great, great player- astounding chess star, attacking genious.

Long may GM Le Quang Liem prosper.

jessicafischerqueen: <Mr. Owls> and <Neils>- thanks for very interesting discussion and I don't consider this bickering- you guys are longstanding and trusted friends in my book.

Thanks for your support <Niels>-

<Mr. Owls> thanks for filling me on on some of the deep historical background. Yes I do have a clearer picture of why so many object to <AJ> in the present.

I don't have anything against <FSR> by the way and I was <very> pleased to learn he is a Wiki Star- the Wiki Chess pages are improving on a daily basis thanks to folk like him.

Yes <AJ> should/could stop from his end as well. If both parties stop then the endless war will end.

But I was right about the "official status" of <AJ's> uploads- see the Admin's official stance posted in their forum today.

The main issue I addressed- criticizing <AJ> for uploading "inferior games"- is not objectionable to the admins. Therefore, complaints to these games should be directed to the admins, not to <AJ> in the rudest form possible.

Finally- my personal experience with <AJ> has been one of human warmth. For all the flaws and problems you point out, he is a human being and he has many admirable qualities <in my personal experience and opinion>-

He's been gentle, helpful, and friendly to me for years, and more- both of us were able to establish a friendship <despite> our first encounter, which as I said was a really nasty argument about the gay rights issue.

Anyways gentlemen thanks for your discussion- you are both welcome to post in here any time on any topic.

-Jess

Mar-08-11  crawfb5: The game I mentioned the other day just finished. There's nothing noteworthy about most of it, but I rather liked this segment:

crawfb5-NN

click for larger view

Black has just played 26...Bd7 in order to meet 27. Rxf7 Qxf7 28. Qd8+ with 28. Be8.

That's not what I played. 27. Rxd7 Rxd7 28. Qf6+ Rg7

click for larger view

Ok, Black is in semi-zugzwang, but how does White proceed?

29. h3

No, I'm not rubbing it in. Black will have to play ...Qf7 sooner or later to break the pin. I'm looking to improve the ensuing K+P ending when he does. I decided the best way to go after the weak f3 pawn is h2-g4-Kh2-Kg3. I suppose Kf1-Ke1-Kd2-Ke3 works just as well, so 29. Kf1 picking up a tempo would be just as good. The only advantage of my way is if he lets me pick up yet another tempo by delaying ...Qf7. Ke1 would allow a potentially worrisome ...Qe8+ while Kh2 is perfectly safe.

Suppose I play 29. Bxg7+ Qxg7 30. Qxg7+ Kxg7 immediately. If I try h3 and g4, Black gets to f4 before I get to f3. If instead of 30. Qxg7+ I play 30. Qd8+ Qg8 31. Qxg8+ Kxg8+ I now have a critical tempo:

32. h3 Kg7 33. Kh2 Kg6 34. Kg5 35. Kg3

click for larger view

So while not absolutely necessary, I decided to pick up an extra tempo while Black had no useful move at his disposal. In the game, Black tried to avoid ...Qf7 too long with pawn moves that got him in deeper trouble faster.

Mar-08-11  Thanh Phan: <jessicafischerqueen> Language with one words translate well, two words combine some well. Problem when they add more then two words(Many! joke lol) to two words or more.

"possible the treatment of water sports very much ..." <to help those who are responsible for the realization of the countries sports.> better translation maybe.

"If the family does not have transparent investment conditions for their children to learn" <If there are no steady family investment conditions available for their children to learn> Seems better.

Notes, had to ask sister for this one, as she has better understanding on the English language structure.

Mar-08-11  Thanh Phan: <jessicafisherqueen> Also wish to offer thanks for finding the time to locate a picture for <Le Quang Liem> page and support of him! :)

jessicafischerqueen: <Thanh Phan> no problem- he is a Tiger. Let's just hoped they actually upload his photo- the one I linked on the admin forum is from Wikipedia Commons, which does not post any photos that have copyright restrictions.

Ok yes your improvements are significalntly better, in that I can understand them easily.

A few improvements here:

<to help those who are responsible for the realization of the countries sports.>

"To aid the activities of national sports organizers"

---
<If there are no steady family investment conditions available for their children to learn>

"If there aren't sufficient economic means available for their children to learn"

Mar-08-11  Thanh Phan: <jessicafisherqueen> See more how translations have problems, from direct translation to how another language would use the same sentence, so different! Many thanks for that! ~Thanh

You may be missing something here. I don't think most people complaining about AJ's games against lowly rated players are all that concerned about the low quality of said games per se. That does factor in their objections, sure, but generally as a relatively minor point.

The root cause, mostly, is that AJ uploading such games neatly serves to confirm his enemies' already existing impression of AJ as an arrogant, self-promoting person. They feel AJ is trying to make himself look stronger than he really is by uploading many of his wins and none of his losses. You may not agree with them, but I'm sure you can see why they would be feeling that way - why <else>, they're thinking, would AJ upload many of his wins and none of his losses?

Mar-09-11  Benzol: <Jess> I think <SwitchingQulthulg> has hit the nail on the head. AJ's work on his website is valuable and other people including <hayton3> have acknowledged this. See <hayton3>'s first post on a Ivan Sokolov - Alexey Shirov game on the 28th June 2005

<hayton3: <aw1988> I don't blame you; in nearly all of his postings <LIFEMasterAJ> manages to illustrate a remarkable propensity for childish obnoxiousness. His peevish remarks squirm embarassingly alongside the geeky humour with which they are projected. He is his own worst publicist and should re-direct his energies into structuring his website (which incidently has some very good and interesting chess content) >

However, what he says about AJ himself also rings true sadly, even six years later.

Mar-09-11

jessicafischerqueen: <Switch, Benzol> Yes I do undestand your points- however- personally speaking- I don't view <AJ's> choice of games he uploads to represent any "threat" to the website.

I understand why so many object to him. But I still don't see the value to the website of constantly attacking and responding to <AJ>'s activities at CG.com.

That's <me> who doesn't see the value of this never ending criticism of him, I can't speak for anyone else.

Finally, <AJ> is one of my friends. Our relationship has had fights, but he has a lot of heart, which I respect just as much as his significant contribution to the royal game.

For years, he has been helpful, generous, and kind to me, so you may forgive me for not liking to see him endure constant criticism for actions that I really don't think damage the website.

That's my opinion- and it's also the opinion of the owners of this website, or they would take action against <AJ>'s uploads and the content of <AJ's> posts.

Therefore, I'd prefer it if those who can't stand <AJ> to direct their criticisms to the administrators instead of dogging his Player Page and Game Pages and personal forum to the end of time.

Best regards,
JFQ

PS- I have read and understood all of your points, and appreciate that you took the time to tell them to me. However, I feel fully apprised of the situation and I do not wish to discuss it further.

So I won't. More, neither will anyone else- in my forum. On to new business in JFQ forum OK?

tks-- G

jessicafischerqueen: <Morf> I did indeed listen to the fine <Vivaldi>-

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZxH...

Another triumph- no surprise there- but due to my current research, I am relieved to hear more Vivaldi.

The emotion here is effervescent joy, surely an emotion of beauty.

For some months I've been exploring various versions of <The Requiem Mass> over the last thousand years, and while I find all versions beautiful, especially <Faure's>, the emotions from this piece can tend to a very deep melancholy.

It is a "Requiem" after all.

So far my favorite is a contemporary version by the fabled viola composer <Ernst Reijseger>, who did a version of the Requiem Mass in collaboration with a Sicilian acapella vocal ensemble and also with the truly magnificent Senegalese singer <Mola Sylla>.

This is a very dark version indeed, albeit almost indescribably beautiful.

Your Vivaldi piece makes a superb genre/mood counterpoint to such fare.

Is it possible to hear this kind of Vivaldi piece without thinking of sunshine?

<Morf> I am going to upload the <Mola Sylla> version of the Requiem Mass on to youtube. At present, only bits and pieces of it are scattered about.

I would like to share with you their full length rendition of both the "Sanctus" and the "Kyrie" segments.

In the near future, I hope.

Warm regards,
Jess
