I think twice there has been a choice between two moves that were essentially tied. Even in those two cases, we weren't following Rybka as much as deciding among which high-level CC stem games to follow. Recently, for example, <Big> told us about a game in which he had followed a stem game right to the end. This is the nature of CC chess these days. I don't think people are following <RV's> analysis as slavishly as was once the case. My real concern is that the soi-disant <original World Team> has reasserted itself in this game. In part, this is because the team is lacking some other very strong personalities (<Thorsson> etc.). In part, I think the amicability on the team is a reaction to the turmoil of the <Pogo> game. The bottom line: people are enjoying analyzing chess together without all the drama. That's not just awful at a chess site. At this point, I feel obligated to support the team's efforts, but I have clearly backed off any kind heavy involvement. I am still trying to figure out how to jump into playing again. On-line is not for me. The OTB scene around here is minimal. Non-computer CC is a possibility. Life is complicated at the moment: Mostly good, but still enervating. |

Oct-15-11 | | playground player: <Jessi9cafischerqueen> Thanks for finding a working link for "The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins." Poor Leonard Nimoy! Do my eyes deceive me, or did he actually wear slightly pointy ears for this? I only hope J.R.R. Tolkien never saw or heard this. It probably would have killed him on the spot. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <H> thanks for taking my query seriously, and for posting a substantial answer. I think we're on the same page, although I don't know where that page is in the book, exactly. Expect an EMU today, I've decided to copy you and get up half an hour before I go to bed in order to catch up on some heinously late correspondence. I'm a bad correspondent!
I'd probably fit right in at Reuters or AP. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <H> what are you doing up in the middle of the day? Some kind of emergency? I understood that "siesta" is an important part of Nashville culture. Or gunfighting. Can't remember which. |

Oct-15-11 | | hms123: <jess> I have been getting up so early each morning that the middle of the day seems like late at night--which is almost the same as early in the morning. I was gong to work on my Chicago night school Law degree, but I didn't really know what time it is. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBuU... |

Are you descended from a line of Shoguns? |

Nice one. Thanks for commenting on second section of <Nezhmetdinov> documentary too- it's kind of a funny comment because at least 1/3 of the soundtrack is composed of music that you gave me here in my forum. You could have said "I picked the songs for this part!" <Thanh Phan> can you think of any music that would go good with <Rudolf Spielmann>? I downloaded some <Rubinstein> and <Mahler> for the "Vienna feel" and also there's some music I got from his brother <Leopold>. Any music that fits a Jewish guy from Vienna who didn't care to talk about politics and religion, who was bored by business, who admired and feared girls, who liked to get drunk and listen to the wind in the trees, and to assassinate people with the most beautiful combinations over the board. |

I'm sure all of you guys know about googlebooks. Great source for old stuff from Philidor, Staunton, Bilguer etc. etc.. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Thanks <Doggimus>! I find you very similar to Batman these days. |
|
Oct-16-11 | | Thanh Phan: <jessicafischerqueen> He sounds of interest, maybe a Mozart piano concerto no. 21 http://youtu.be/rKZr3ExeXUc or Chopins Nocturne E-flat major, opus 55 no.2 http://youtu.be/_bX3GeQZu-A Notes, both are more mainline classical and longer then the ones I normally submit for songs, yet I thought they might be appropriate considering how you describe him ~ If need I could try find others later should those be of less help, take care ~Thanh |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Thanh Phan> I already had both of those, but thanks for posting them anyways. The Nocturne is beautiful! It will make a good selection for a chess soundtrack. I can't use <Elvira Madigan> because everyone in the world has heard the melody too often, it will bring too many personal associations with it. I am intrigued by the source? Are those tracks being played by a computer? Also, did you notice how long the screen is?
I hope they are not going to make all the screens that long. My eyes prefer 4:3 and they already changed it to 16:9. Do you have any information on that?
You always know the latest technical stuff about the internet and such. Yes <Rudolf Spielmann> is certainly of interest, one of the most beautiful and underrated players ever. He was top 5 in the world at times, but his tournament results lacked consistency. He did beat <Alekhine> and <Capablanca> however, and everyone else of note. He also won or came second in some of the strongest tournaments ever. Here he is: Rudolf Spielmann And here are some of his most famous and exciting games- Game Collection: Spielmann: Last Knight of the King's Gambit |
|
Oct-16-11 | | Thanh Phan: <jessicafischerqueen> Had thoughts there would be conflict for choosing these, and understand the reasons for decline them at the time for your video of him~ Regards the aspect ratio it depend on their upload settings of video, 4:3 for older settings of save files, and 16:9 for widescreen newer saves. My right click and select Show video info, shows 1280x720 The Nocturne from source appears to be equal to the wiki sound file source, the Elvira Madigan seems to be compiled and edited, see his notes about the video making of, are some interest how video was made http://www.musanim.com/ProductionNo... |
