Jessicakes ~

I read you're looking for some more
classical music for film background.

Go to u-tube & give a listen to:
"Horowitz Plays Schumann Traumerei
in Moscow"...the most poignantly
hear-breaking piece imaginable.

In Germany, "Traumerei" is played at the funerals of people of stature. The video shows people in a dead trance, & moved to tears.

[This is Horowitz' return to Russia many decades
after he defected to the West.
He sd/ that as a Jew in anti-Semitic Russia, he practiced very hard so that he wd/ be so exceptional, & in such great demand from other countries, Russia wd/ just have to cave & let him tour...which he then did for over 50 years away from his country. ...His lifetime home was the N.Y. Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, where he had 3 custom Steinways, any which one was always shipped gratis for him...anywhere...even as far as Japan.

"Traumerei" is from Schumann's "Kinderszenen"-- a children's piano suite, from which you might wanna copy the other pieces, too. I wd/ stick w/ Horowitz as much as possible.

There is a lot of nice background
music in Mendelssohn's many "Songs Without Words" -- the most famous of which is the "Spring Song".

Lemme also suggest you u-tube:
"S. Ozawa Conducts Pavane pour une Infante Defunte" (Pavane for a Dead Princess)...There are piano versions, too, especially by Phillipe Entremont. ...In the same exquisite zone as the "Traumerei".

Fond abrazos y besos
& my very best wishes for
a megaloscrumptious 2012 !!

Jan-24-12  lamont: ...
P.S. ~
U-tube Erik Satie's music.
There are several pieces that have over
1 million & over 2 million hits.

His "Gymnopedies #1" in one version
has 2.8 million hits.
This is the music piece I recommend to you.
Hauntingly ethereal...unworldly...

Satie was an eccentric mystic &
had a sly, feline sense of humour in his titles:
Flabby prelude for a Dog, Three Pieces in the Shape
of a Pear, &cet/...Wikipedia him : he's worth knowing.

"Gym/#1" was used as the complete background music
for the 1985 Glenn Close/Jeff Bridges
murder-mystery film, "Jagged Edge".

By the bye...
I wonder if you know my Canadian friends
in Vancouver, B.C., namely Marian & Stephen Fortner.

She has a flower bizniz w/ a royal imprimatur from The Queen, & he is a goldsmith-jewelry maker & fine arts dealer. Both are now touring Thailand, Laos & Myanmar (Burma) as they have for decades to see longtime friends & buy pearls & gemstones.

When I lived in Acapulco, they visited w/ us for 7 years before they went Far East...

They just sent me pix of their riding an elephant
crossing a river in Thailand.

Just the kind unique people
who might have crossed yr/ world-line in B.C.

And no, I'm not just buttering you up! I didn't get where I am today without knowing fine art when I see it.

Jan-25-12  Knight13: <jessicafischerqueen: <Knight13> I love "Endgame", I'm on my third reading of it at the moment.> In the book, Brady portrays Tal and Fischer as enemies (Fischer really did not like his staring and losing to him four times in a row) but never mentioned that they were friends once as well. Why do you think Brady decided to omit that fact?

And also his later anti-semite and anti-america beliefs. Do you believe that they were justified and understandable based on what you know of him, or was he really losing his mind by then?

jessicafischerqueen: <Knight 13> Yep Brady skews the historical record with respect to Fischer and Tal's relations. Not sure why he does this; perhaps he means it as a corrective to previous accounts of their good relations. There are dozens of photographs of Bobby and Mikhail talking and smiling together.

jessicafischerqueen: <Knight13> Anti-Semitic beliefs can't be "justified" unless one is willing to affirm that Jews are an evil and inferior race. Therefore, no, I don't think Bobby's Anti-Semitism was justified. That's speaking for myself. Speaking for Bobby, there's no evidence Jews did anything bad to him, quite the contrary, so I don't think he was justified to hold Anti-Semitic beliefs. Nor do I think his anti-American sttements can be justified. America rolled out the red carpet for him for a long, long time. I do think the US government was needlessly, and cruelly, vindictive in voiding Bobby's passport whilst he was in Japan.

I don't think it makes sense to say Bobby was "losing his mind"- in normal English usage we usually reserve that colloquial, and decidedly non-diagnostic phrase for someone who has little or no idea who, where, or what he is. Bobby was not delusional in that he saw Pink Elephants. He was certainly clinically paranoid and sported a wide variety of bizarre and hateful beliefs. His saddest paranoid belief, possibly, was his conviction that doctors couldn't, or wouldn't, do anything to help his kidney disease. He might ahve lived years more if he'd accepted proper medcal treatment.

jessicafischerqueen: My dear <pgp> thanks for your encouraging comments on <Charousek>, although it badly needs narration. I'm going to redo it eventually with Richard. LOL these documentaries aren't "short," they average 40-50 minutes which is probably 39 minutes longer than anyone in their right mind wants to watch something about a chess player.

I will, however, make the videos on Tal, Alekhine, and Bobby 90 minutes long. It might take me three years to complete this, or more.

jessicafischerqueen: <lamont> I alredy used Barber Shop's <Adagio for strings> in a previous documentary, but I haven't heard of any of your other recent suggestions- thanks so much! I can't wait to check them out. Doubtless they are brilliant.
Jan-25-12  technical draw: May I also suggest the opening of Brahm's violin concerto? The opening builds to a crescendo before the solo violin enters. (It reminds my of beach landings during WWII.)

(If I had already suggested it or you used it then disregard, I'll be 63 next month)

Knight 13 ~

Bobby never was circumcised
so he was never ritually accepted
or joined the Covenant of Sinai that Moses made w/ God, as all male babies are brought into that Covenant
by ritual circumcision, to live out a life as a Jew following the Commands/Mitzvahs that essentially are the very scaffolding of the Jewish religion.

A Jewish person can be circumcised anytime later in life to ritually join & affirm the Sinai Covenant made w/ God
to accept God's Laws -- ergo, to live a Jewish life.

A large number of Jews finally released
from Russia underwent ritual circumcision to affirm their Jewish commitment to the Sinai Commandments Moses accepted for the Jewish peopl

Bobby was never a Bar-Mitzvah
(noun: "Son of the Commandments"
(mistakenly used as a transitive verb)
by which ritual of reading a few lines from the Torah scroll in a synagogue, a 13 year-old boy promises to obey the Commandments given to Moses on Mt. Sinai.

Any Jewish boy (i.e. born to a Jewish mother--Jewishness descends matrilinealy-- can be a Bar-Mitzvah.

Bobby (via Regina) never 'closed the deal' by Circumcision nor becoming a Bar-Mitzvah to join the Jewish Nation.

Regina never kept the Jewish Sabbath, never celebrated the Jewish holidays. The reign of terr under Sen. McCarthy
was roiling the country & Jews were being accused of being dangerous Communists or Communist traitors (e.g., the execution of the Rosenbergs).

So then, Regina lived a non-Jewish life, brought up Bobby in that life, so that he really--like his mother--never 'felt' Jewish.

He was only Jewish via matrilineal descent.
--A Jew by fiat, not choice.

The 'Sabbath' Bobby kept was that of a Christian sect, "Church of God" --which took a tithe of his WC prize money--& which he later rejected, & left forever.

Go to Kasparov's "My Great Predecessors" -- the volume discussing Fischer -- where he discussed the probable start of young Bobby's anger/hate of Jews being the bruhaha in 1961 when Fischer/Reshevsky started a match sponsored by Jacqueline Piatigorsky. W/ the score tied at 5.5, Sammy wanted
a game scheduled (incredibly !!) on the Jewish Sabbath (he was an orthodox Jew) to be moved, which it was.

But, since Mrs. Piatigorsky wanted to attend a concert of her world famous cellist husband, gregor, she moved that playing date from the Jewish Sabbath to a secular time -- in the morning !!

Bobby was never a morning person, &
that Jewish Sabbath time was just fine\w/ him.

Mrs. P/ didn't budge.
Bobby sat in his hotel rm/ & forfeited
the game...& the match, because he cdnt get it to be continued w/ that forfeit scratched.

The pummeling he recd/ in the press
& the humiliation recd/ by awarding
Reshevsky as winner, imprinted him for life as being victimized by the Jews who organized that match, the orthodox Jew who claimed that match cd/ not continue by purposely entering other tournaments to make his win a fiat accompli, the many jounalists who were Jewish who trashed him in chess columns & out, & the Ultimate Jew Enemy #1, Mrs. Piatigorsky, who happened to be a ROTSCHILD !! That total betrayal & disgrace he saw as being caused by Jews changed his life forever.

Kasparov is correct to place the date & place of the very hurtful wound that festered & grew to full-blown anti-Semitism to that 1961 Match.

Bobby went to Iceland, as Kissinger suggested he do, as the freedom-loving American to kick Russian Commie ass.
He went in the role of Patriot.

But when the U.S.A. declared him an unpatriotic felon for moving chess pieces in Spassky II -- the same very deep sense of betrayal & hurt overcame him: he was essentially told by the U.S.A. he cd/ never return to his country : he was persona non grata.

If he tried to return, he wd/ be heavily fined & jailed for years--in short, he was condemned to a long, lonely life of exile & disgrace

ineluctably

sliding into a descent
that crashed at the very bottom in paranoid madness.

Knight 13 ~

Bobby was taken in & given shelter & comfort in the bleakest of his "wilderness years" by the Hungarian Jewish Polgar family, which included famed GMs Judit & Zsuzsa (Susan).

Even in his paranoid madness he cd/ not
bring himself reject his long, intimate friendship w/ the Polgars.

He even proffered the ultimate gesture of trust & friendship by deigning to play some chessgames (!!) w/ Susan.

As an American & a Jew
I feel no anger or betrayal
for Bobby's disturbed rants.

Bobby sd/ to Johnny Carson soon after
winning the '72 WC:
"After winning, the very next day I felt
as if something went out of me."

That was the moment he died...

What he felt went out of him
-- like breath --
was what the Greeks called Psyche

...but thazz another chapter.
