 | | Phony Benoni: <jessicafischerqueen> You'll ask to ask somebody who knows photography for the details, but sometimes this effect comes from reversing the image. Compare these two shots of Emanuel Lasker: http://www.tabladeflandes.com/frank... http://files.chesscomfiles.com/imag... |

As long as they don't move next door indeed.
The PCers are tragically devoid of irony. Consider the bastion of PC ethos, Boston. They raised their voices in protest of the racist South in the 60's and yet Boston was the most segregated city in the US. Ten years later when bussing school children was in vogue, these gentle, soft spoken liberals rioted in the streets. "They aren't going to MY school!" |

One of my favorite "incorrect" pieces is Tom Lehrer's "Vatican Rag". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKWI...
Ave Maria. Gee, it's good to see ya.
Heh.
A radio station in New York City played that and received over a million protest calls (perhaps still a record), letters, pickets, the works. Ah, those peace loving PCers. Grrrr. I miss Deffie. She loved putting funny lyrics on old tunes like this. |

I miss <Deffi> too. A catastrophic loss to the website. I'd say the same about <Woody Woodpusher> and <Malthrope>. |

|
| Apr-03-12 | | MarkFinan: <Harry> Your a bit nuts if you *really* believe any part of Britain is like an "adult comic"!! And don't be so ridiculous and dramatic, with your "End of", statement! Unless you're joking?? Howay Harrylol, why eye man, divent be soo daft lad lol |

Well yes, England really is a huge comic/sit com ..of which Viz plays a role in satirising the classes.. England possess enormous opportunities for humour and satire.. just ask Ricky Gervais.. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Lads it's all thanks to the "insta-history" available through the Google-Youtube two-step. So for example last week I saw the list with <Cruyff> on it, and I liked the name, so I googled it. Then I put his name into youtube and saw his highlight reel and yes he could play a bit, never saw a man that tall who could dribble at top speed. So then you just click on all the related names on the wiki pages and look at them as well. So I saw dozens of football highlight reels on youtube last week, and also I read up on the FA Cup wiki as well. It's fast, but superficial "learning." I maintain that I actually learn more from in-depth book sources such as VIZ magazine. <Bit of Crumpet>: "Have you got a match?" <Sid the Sexist>: "Not since Errol Flynn, pet." |
|
Apr-03-12
 | | harrylime: lol.. Is Roger Melly still in there?
Oh and yeah it's superficial ..
But it's not too ..
That's the joy of uber fast communication..
I'm gonna refrain from listing my top ten footballers of all time just now lol |

Concerning your new career as a Korean golf professional, I was watching the Par 3 contest at the Masters today. They showed the 76 year old Gary Player signing hats and chatting with the gallery. I love that guy. Golf has a civilizing influence on the character. Perhaps this is in part due to the humbling effect the game imposes on even the best players. Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, and Gary Player were known as the Big Three, not only because they were winning all of the major events but for the positive character traits they had developed. For example, after putting out on a green, Gary Player would tamp down the spike marks around to the hole. The rules state that you can repair a ball mark on the green before putting but not spike marks. But there is nothing prohibiting repairing spike marks after putting out. You don't see this kind of altruism in any other sport. |

Some may have imitated but none surpassed him.
Perhaps my favorite Lehrer ditty is the MLF Lullaby. It drips with irony about Mutually Assured Destruction, Germany and France (We have the weopons our peace to determine and one of the fingers on the button will be German). Also it has my favorite Lehrer stanza:
Once all the Germans were warlike and mean.
But that couldn't happen again.
We taught them a lesson in 1918
And they hardly have bothered us since then. |

Or, if it did have a civilizing influence on his character, I'm would not have wanted to know him before golf. ;) |
