 | | kingscrusher: Hi Jessica
I am going to try and cover all Fischer's 5 minute chess games from the 1970 5 minute tournament - it is a good match for a large number of my channel's blitz videos to see what really high level 5 minute chess can be like. I have done two already - the two games vs Tal here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWls...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ehz2...
Hope you like this new series. It is a little less daunting for me than covering normal games. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Tryfon> Great Idea! I will add your series to my profile- Here's a game collection on the series: Game Collection: Fischer's Blitz Games at Herceg Novi, 1970 Fischer's Blitz Games at Herceg Novi, 1970
Compiled by OBIT
This collection contains the 22 games Fischer played at the 1970 Herceg Novi blitz event, certainly the strongest five-minute tournament of the 20th century. The twelve participants were Fischer, Tal, Korchnoi, Petrosian, Bronstein, Hort, Matulovich, Smyslov, Reshevsky, Uhlmann, Ivkov, and Ostojic. Fischer utterly dominated this super-strong field with a 19-3 score (17 wins, four draws, and one loss), 4 1/2 points better than 2nd place finisher Tal. This result makes a compelling argument that Fischer is the strongest blitz player of all time. |

At the Grandmaster tournament which was Capablanca's coming out party, he was beating all comers at 5-1 odds. So I would say that Capa has to be on the short list of speed demons. Although they didn't have clocks in his day, Morphy never took longer than 12 minutes for one move (his famous queen sac against Paulsen as timed by an observer with a stop watch). I'd wager that the Morph would be one tough nut to crack in speed chess. |

Watching the women at the year's first major, I couldn't help but notice that all the contenders are Korean. Since you have the prototypical Korean body and obviously all the best teachers are there, I suggest you take up golf as your second career. Besides making megabucks, you get to hit something with a stick. OK. It's not a baby seal but you can't have it all. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Tim> you've brought back fond memories of me hanging with "the wrong crowd" in the student union pub. Around 7 pm the "Rainbow Coalition" would filter in and then eventually set up a microphone. We considered this an unreasonable intrusion on our by now drunken "conversation." So we'd chant "Cut down all the trees and use them to beat the whales to death with." Nowadays I hardly ever get to have a good time. |
