Apr-19-12  Boomie: <hms123: <Boomie>

I wouldn't be so sure about the motives of the unpaid. Their motives might be subject to question.>

I object on the grounds that it is irrelevant, immaterial, irresponsible, and...

Oh. We're not in court for once.

Well. Nevermind then.

Apr-19-12  Boomie: <Court Jesster>

Sam and Max are grilling Jimmy Two Teeth, a lowdown dirty rat who sublets a hole in their wall. Jimmy is holding their phone for ransom. Although they paid the exhorbitant price of a hunk of Swiss cheese, Jimmy is holding out for more demands as they occur to him.

The Freelance Police play good cop/bad cop to find out where Jimmy stashed the phone.

Max: What if we tape head phones on you and play Cat Stevens?

Jimmy: Cat's don't scare me. I ain't talking. I ain't no rat. Well, you know what I mean.

Sam: Help me help you, Jimmy.

Jimmy: What the heck does that mean?

Sam: I don't know but it always sounds great on TV.

Finally Max dangles Jimmy by his tail out the window because he's afraid of heights. Jimmy coughs up the phone...literally.

Sam: I wish I could un-see that.

Apr-19-12  Boomie: <Jessiemouse>

And so it occurred to me: What if we had an un-see button?

Or better yet, an un-read button. Gort knows I could use one after reading some of the posts here. Especially mine.

Perhaps a multi-purpose un-sense button for those special occassions that you just want to wipe from the record.

We'll call it Expunge and make crap loads of money.

Apr-19-12  I play the Fred: <Jay Effcue>, I have decided to share some totally original, non-copied-and-pasted observations on literature here, if you don't mind.

To me, Austen's <Pride and Prejudice> retains a fascination for modern readers, continuing near the top of lists of 'most loved books' such as The Big Read.[1].

But of course, thinking of Austen puts me in the mind for Dickens - and what is more quintessentially Dickens than <A Tale of Two Cities>? The The novel depicts the plight of the French peasantry demoralized by the French aristocracy in the years leading up to the revolution, the corresponding brutality demonstrated by the revolutionaries toward the former aristocrats in the early years of the revolution, and many unflattering social parallels with life in London during the same time period.

And Scott's <Rob Roy>? Yes please! It's a scintillating read. I don't have enough praise for it. It was a splendid, rousing historical adventure, an example of what can happen when the best direction, acting, writing and technical credits are brought to bear on what might look like shopworn material.

Anyway, I sure hope none of my favorite GMs dislike these books; I'd hate to call their intellect into question over this.

jessicafischerqueen: <Fred> yes I'm certainly in agreement about <Pride and Prejudice>. As I was telling <Harry Lime> a few months ago, it has stayed with me in vivid detail, which is rare. Very believable characters and dialogue, as good an example of literary realism as has ever been written.

I haven't read <A Tale of Two Cities> but I thought <Hard Times> and <The Mystery of Edwin Drood> were marvelous.

I haven't read <Rob Roy> but I saw a movie about him featuring a very sharp performance by <Tim Roth> as the deadly fop character.

Apr-19-12  I play the Fred: <Jess>, apologies - I was doing a bit based on <AVRO1938>'s wiki-plagiarism on the Kramnik-Aronian page. My commentary was exclusively copied and pasted from wiki.

Most of my reading is non-fiction. I would like to read more fiction, but I go to the Novels section and I'm overwhelmed, like <Borat> in the cheese aisle.

For a fun read, you can't go wrong with Kinky Friedman. Dah Kinkster is one hilarious writer.

He's also the front man for the urban country kosher band, The Texas Jew Boys.

Warning: This Tuber is totally uncorrect politically and otherwise.

Fusilli: <Albertan> Loved the story on chess in the Illinois county jail! Your link didn't quite work for me, but the story is on many websites (the one I read was this: http://articles.boston.com/2012-04-...).

<"We see it day-in and day-out that people want instant gratification and that often individuals do not think before they act," Dart said Monday. "Thoughtless actions will hurt you while playing chess and hurt you more on the street.">

Wonderful.

Apr-20-12  TheSlid: <jessicafischerqueen: <The Slid> kind of sad to see you without the Godzilla avatar. Do you remember when you called <dom> a "miserable git" for correctly anticipating that he wouldn't be celebrating St. Paddy's? That was years ago but it's one of my all time favorite posts. For ages I thought <switch> had said it, until <boomie> cleared it up for me.>

Ah yes, <cubsfan> pointed out that my avatar was just a plastic dinosaur, but it was always more than that to me. My good lady wife suggested it on the grounds that "you like dinosaurs" - although I can't recall meeting one.

I had completely forgotten calling <Dom> a miserable git, but being in club myself, it seems inappropriate to apologise at this late stage. No doubt he deserved it for something long forgotten.

Any more historical vid's?

Apr-20-12  Travis Bickle: Hey Jess, where ya been? Here's a tune for ya. ; P

Apr-20-12  TheSlid: Just watched the series on Wilhelm Stienitz. Lovely feel to your production. A slow down on the chess board sequences, plus a commentary by a reputable presenter would make this very marketable on TV. Not populist channels, but maybe specialist. The music, as I said before, is quite well chosen, as are the games, and the subject matter would be of interest to a wider audience than the comuterised perfection of the modern game.

Try it, Jess!

Apr-20-12  Thanh Phan: <..dislike these books; I'd hate to call their intellect into question over this.> Possible not to like the books, or even have read, but still have some or more intellect. Several books I didn't like personally because of the characters choices or my personal choices, but would still recommend, and like otherwise.

<jessicafischerqueen> Glad to know of your community and friends view on crime and social values, brings hope.

Had a like of the <A Tale of Two Cities> book, and would recommend if had time to read.

A query or question was sent to me if your wording requesting about <The Brothers Karamazov> book, are real request toward gather book or are?

I have a like toward that book as it provides a different culture viewpoint of belief, but have not read one English version yet, only the original Russian version, and would welcome a suggestion of which translated by author to read.

jessicafischerqueen: <TheSlid> thanks for those suggestions!

I just built a time machine and followed both of them. Here are the last three documentaries I made, with slowed down chess sequences and with the services of my possibly but not for sure reputable narrator Richard:

Rashid Nezhmetdinov: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...

Rossolimo: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...

Akiva Rubinstein and Polish Chess: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...

Apr-21-12  Thanh Phan: <jessicafischerqueen> Having read the original in Russian, the few selections in Vietnamese have less to add to the book then original, and I would still welcome which version to read in English, as "The Brothers Karamazov" should show its best justice to reading in any language, some authors of translated books are less then expressive
Apr-21-12  Thanh Phan: <jessicafischerqueen> Your continual interest and information in the series of Chess videos improves as with the background type of music in your videos.

I think the asking of community adds to your music background in such, as there are many who suggested music in your videos and adds toward your next video, which helps i think in the interest toward chess history.

I would recommend to any with an interest toward history of the chess players toward you and your videos as you dedicate much more information then I would in many or most situations

An offer of many thanks are toward your videos documented and well searched in each version.

jessicafischerqueen: <Thanh> offer thanks to your recent posts here with new musical selections- I did listen and downloaded some of them.

Also, offer thanks for <Nezhmetdinov> documentary, which has many musical selections you gave me last year.

Apr-21-12  waustad: A repost of interest:

malthrope: Greetings waustad! Finally got my computer fixed and soon it will be up to snuff (it's been over 1 year and a long story).
