No, I mean the links that kibbutzers have left on the player pages dating back from 2002. Most of those are dead, as I said.

What I meant was that your current bibliographical hyperlinks will also be dead some day- some day soon, if the past is any indication. But more importantly, wikipedia and Bill's web page are absolutely not adequate as bibliographical sources. I'm talking about your <Alekhine> bio now, not the <Capa> bio.

Wiki and Bill's page are unreliable- which is hardly to say all the stuff on there is wrong. It isn't, of course, but there are plenty of errors.

If you are really willing to try this I'd be thrilled. I believe I can source all of your <Alekhine bio> with reliable and corroborated print sources, might take me a weekend to do that? I'm way up for it if you are. It's not necessary to list every page I found the info from but it would be great if you could list the books that have the information.

Then anyone who really wanted to check your <Alekhine> bio for accuracy could do so, by finding and reading the source material.

I have well over a thousand books and journals here with me. Just a matter of checking all of your statements against my sources and then giving you the list.

We could do <Alekhine> as a prototype project?

In the mean time, of course the hyperlinks to Wikipedia and Bill's sites and other sites is better than nothing- at least those sites can be checked for accuracy from external, more reliable sources. But we could do it properly on the Alekhine bio if you're up for it.

Let me know, and if you want I will do it this weekend and email you a bibliography that is in no way dependent on a web page. A bibliography built to last longer than a year or three.

jessicafischerqueen: <Doggimus> also, I believe you are already saving all your work in html format on your hard drive, and have it backed up as well?

In case this website here goes down, GHOD forbid.

But you never know. You don't want to lose the fruits of your monumental efforts.

Oct-10-12  twinlark: I've made the necessary adjustment to the Capa bio.

The problem with hyperlinks is one that will always be with us. The amount of work I've put into these bios is to some extent held hostage by the longevity of this website.

It's not like chessgames.com will be stored in a library for the next 100 years for reference by future researchers. Be nice if it was, but not something anyone can rely upon.

I've backed up all the bios in Word docs etc, but they're tailor made for this site.

I'd be quite happy to source the Alekhine bio with hard copy sources. Let me know the changes I need to make and the sources I need to cite and which they've overtaken, and Bob's your uncle.

  jessicafischerqueen: To quote Stan, "Wicked!"

Quite right we can't rely on any website and I'm relieved to hear you have your work saved.

All of my work is saved and backed up and stored in three different physical locations.

This includes the bulk of my chess book and magazine collection which is digital.

It has taken me three years to amass, collect, and organize chess material, not to mention make the actual documentaries and I'll be arsed if I'm going to let it die at the whim of a website or one hard drive. Either could fail at any moment.

I will go through your Alekhine bio this weekend word by word, and then pass you the list of print sources that covers every fact you've listed. It shouldn't be that hard, since I've already looked closely at your bio many times. However, better slow and steady on this. I'll email you the list. Then you can delete the wiki and bill's hyperlink.

They should be deleted because a punter might go to one of them from your bio, and then read some totally false information, such as "Alekhine attended military college" and so forth.

But deleted only after you get the print bibliography up.

Ok GAME ON.

Oct-11-12  Travis Bickle: Hi Jess I'm glad to hear you are playing good chess again! ; P

I play on The Playchess German site as a guest where I have been playing better trying various openings. It's a nice site, I may join again. They have software to catch cheaters and if your opponent disconnects because they are a bad loser you can hit a button to terminate the game in 3 minutes and get your desereved win.

  harrylime: I need help..

I won a game today. ( two out of two so far lol ) and have tried putting up diagrams on your forum .. from Babas chess .. like you sooo long ago told me about..

But I can't do it now.. I've re read what you said and it's not happening..

harrylime: I'd put the game up in notation form but I remember you saying this was no good ... so I'd love to put up a few diagrams with words ect..

Hope all ok with you as ever..

Oct-14-12  BishopofBlunder: Hi <harry>,

If you want to put a diagram of a position from a game you played in Babas chess, then follow this procedure:

From your profile in Babas chess, pick the game you want and click "Examine". Then advance the game to the position you want to diagram. From the EDIT menu, choose "Copy to clipboard as FEN position."

In order to create a diagram in a post using the FEN code, follow the procedure shown here: Kibitzing Tricks

I hope this helps you.

Oct-15-12  Boomie: <Boomie: <jessicafischerqueen: hmmm spamming the forum- Boone, is it? Old hat, surely.>

Not so much coonskin. He has posted a lot but most of his posts are useful to the team and show a lot of work. Naturally he can't resist putting some people off but I think he's been mostly helpful. The Team certainly needs members who doggedly chase down variations.>

My rosy outlook was dead wrong as usual. We've lost one of our most important analysts, the Rinus award winner no less. He stumbled on a Boone of contention. His explanation for leaving makes perfect sense...unfortunately.

Sigh.

Oct-19-12  Travis Bickle: Hi Jess, I bought Fritz 12 awhile back which gave me a year of free membership on the Playchess site. After it expired I went back and played as a guest. Here's a link below for anybody who didn't buy the fritz software.

Just click on this address, www.playchess.com/ and Playchess will download on your computer. It only takes a few minutes. There even is an option to become a member for 32.90 euros if you like the site. Good luck & good chess! ; P
