jessicafischerqueen: <Harry> it's an article within a very excellent book. You can learn more about it here: http://www.amazon.com/The-Reliable-...

With respect to the Caissars, it's an extremely small awards show in terms of who actually participates.

Participation rates are incredibly low, and the number of people who actually know or remember who won what is even lower.

The stakes are so low in this contest that it amplifies any vain or petty behavior.

I've behaved right out of line on a previous year by publicly lobbying for my favorite candidates, which <Annie> pointed out helps make a mockery of an honest awards show.

She's right about that, and I thank her again for pointing it out to me.

Isn't there some kind of saying or proverb that says the ill-mannered behavior increases inversely with respect to the magnitude of an awards show?

The smaller the pond, the worse the wannabe big fish behave.

harrylime: I'm gonna be ordering a few books and walter Brownes stress is chess and Judit Polgars's and the one you mentioned on Miles are the priorities ...

I agree with all you say re this sites awards .. Vanity is there but so is reality and truth ..

Certain posters give sooo much more and are pretty essential to this site ..

The rewards on here do justice to the people who make this site tick... End of.

jessicafischerqueen: <Hazza> you underestimate how many enjoy you. You know who your friends are.

Look you have fun scrapping on Bobby's page. If you spend that much time scrapping on Bobby's page, along with the pleasure will come a lot of regulars there who don't want to see your scrapping.

I'm a mate and I don't like to see you scrapping on Bobby's page all the time, but frankly it's none of my twatting business.

A mate's a mate. Period.

I <Hazza> good time talking to you and that's what matters to me.

Pride and Prejudice has a discussion of vanity vs. pride that is trying to penetrate the fog of my memory. I will have to go search that out, but I think it has some application.

<Certain posters give sooo much more and are pretty essential to this site .. >

I think the historians are worth their weight in gold, and don't get nearly enough notice. And there are some great people here whose contribution doesn't really fall under any specific category for recognition. The really great people don't care.

<Hostess: A reasonably intelligent sociopath would understand that self-nomination would greatly reduce the chance of getting nominated <and> actually winning. A smarter strategy would be simply to wait for someone else to nominate you. Nominating yourself guarantees (and it does guarantee this) that you won't win the award you covet. >

Alas, not being nominated guarantees you won't win also. Of course, the point is that a person who can't get nominated surely isn't going to win regardless. Alas, forsooth, I will note that begging for votes has been successful in the past. On a related note, I will be back in a few days smh. I thought it nice to give fair warning so you can look that acronym up somewhere, maybe in the Blue Links Depository.

SMH

Saturday My Hamster
Save My Hog
Si Mon Hamsterrrrr
So Many Hippos

Is it animal related? I may be on the wrong track already. Possibly one hint.

Jan-08-13  Travis Bickle: Thanks M'Lady for that The Stone Roses track 'I Wanna Be Adored'! I like it! HarryFab is a big fan of them.

P.S. I bet you still haven't watched Love & Other Drugs! It's a sexy drama and great love story... starring Anne Hathaway & Jake Guggenheimer LOL i can't spell that guys name. ; P

jessicafischerqueen: Good call as usual <tbone> I was just looking on which of my 9 external hard drives I have the <Jake Gibbon's House> film on. I swear I will watch it once I track it down.

On other mysteries do you know what the secret codes mean?

HNY and SMH.

I could google them but I don't want to give them the satisfaction.

SMH

"Shake Monkey's Hand"?

It might have something to do with that because <Ohio> called that sockpuppet a Monkey in an earlier post, but then later he was trying to help him out on the NO THAT'S MY BLOODY AWARD GET YOUR HANDS OFF IT page.

Jan-08-13  Travis Bickle: Jess I am amazed at all the computer slang that's out there & yes I don't know most of it. I think SMH means Synthetic Metaphysical Horticulture. hahaha!!!

jessicafischerqueen: <Trombone> that actually makes a lot of sense.

One hopes for an orderly affair, but you never know. At least the admins already showed they're not in the mood for guff by deleting some of the posts.

Jan-08-13  hms123: <jess> I like the <delete without comment> approach. It solves the problem and ends the discussion, ALAYFT.

  jessicafischerqueen: <H> Good Heavens.

Yes it's an even better approach than "Shoot first ask questions later."

Just "Shoot."

Luckily, I have recently boned up on my cool internets acronyms and can decipher your message.

"By the way, I have iron red women in marmalade. I hope I redistribute red women in marmalade."

That's an allusion to a chapter from Smith's "Wealth of Nations" if I'm not mistaken.
