Apr-13-11  Travis Bickle: Jess you have mail.
Apr-13-11  SugarDom: Test.
Apr-13-11  SugarDom: I just need to mention that I used your forum to make a research on chess perfect scores...
Apr-13-11  SugarDom: Wesley So made 9/9 on his last tournament, but of course Fischer's 1963-64 US Championships 11-0 is incomparable...
Apr-13-11  TheFocus: Lasker in New York 1893 had a 13-0 score.

Capablanca in New York Rice also had a 13-0 score, but one game was a forfeit and another man dropped out, so I don't consider them the same at all.

Apr-13-11  technical draw: Although Fischer's 11-0 is always mentioned you have to add also that in his last 3 US championships he had a combined total of 29-4.

  jessicafischerqueen: <Sugar Dom> aha-

Ok in <Hooper and Whyld> "Oxford Companion" that's called a <"clean score">.

Here are some other clean scores from Matches:

1846 <Staunton> +7 v. <Harrwitz>

1876 <Steinitz> +7 v. <Blackburne>

1919 <Capablanca> +5 v. <Kostic>

1971 <Fischer> +6 v. <Taimanov/Larsen>

Tournament play:

1931-1937 <Vera Menchik> clean scores in four consecutive Women's World Championship Tournaments.

According to <Hooper and Whyld>, Bobby's 11-0 clean score is considered the greatest in history due to the relative strength of his opposition.

One might make the same argument for Bobby's match scores- particularly vs. <Larsen>.

Not one single person on the planet- not one- imagined that <Bent Larsen> could lose six straight.

Apr-13-11  technical draw: <Not one single person on the planet- not one- imagined that <Bent Larsen> could lose six straight.>

In a book I have they ask the question, "How is it possible that a player of the strength and caliber of Larsen cannot even get half a point?"....

Apr-13-11  LIFE Master AJ: Capa, Lasker and Fischer all had perfect scores. Amazingly enough, I think all of these results ocurred in "The Big Apple." (New York city)

  jessicafischerqueen: <AJ> that's right- interesting.

1963 US Championship was in New York.

Apr-14-11  achieve: Here's an example from from the 1971 match, game 1:

click for larger view

Larsen's play upto this point has been very strong, slight advantage most of the time, but here falls for a tactic, misses it, slight blunder, as he plays 38 Bc4 here, allowing the Ra8-a4 x-raying the h4 square, and Bobby pounces on this one, finishing off in style.

Apr-14-11  achieve: CORRECTION

The interview I referred to was with <Mark Taimanov>, not Bent Fischer!

ouch

I'll delete my nitwit post now, and perhaps the fragment from Larsen - Fischer may stand, since it *is* an interesting moment and position in their candidates match. Maybe it should be zapped as well.

It's game #2 btw, not 1, as I write upthere...

Apr-14-11  LIFE Master AJ: Quite some time ago, you suggested I do game collections.

Here is another one. (Game Collection: LIFE Master AJ's "10 Greatest Short Games" ever!)

Note that I have taken your advice ... (in many areas!).

Apr-14-11  Boomie: ->

Ya wanna know how to beat 'em? I'll tell ya.

They take one of your pawns, you take one of their knights.

They put one of yours in check, you put one of theirs in the box.

That's the Chicago way.

  jessicafischerqueen: My dear <Bishop>

How could I ever forget you? You were the first person at this website I viciously insulted for no reason.

I remember that Nathan (positional genius) told me "That was a little harsh, Jess."

Anyways neither you nor me had a forum, so I had to run all over the website looking for you to apologize.

Finally I was able to contact you in that most civilized of environs, "You Rang's" forum.

Anytime you are around CG.com I'm happy.
