| Apr-06-13 | | achieve: <I hope to remain your friend so long as we live.> That's a deal, <Jess>. I just now decided that, coz when I started thinking back at all the stimulating pleasant conversations we have had over the years, I realized that an attempt to bring a few back could easily send me on a marathon session of 48 hours non-stop, recollecting and typing those out, that's how many fond memories I have from the past 8 or so years... I in fact did want to share a few memories, but a favourite niece of mine - we were quite close - has suddenly suffered an aneurysma in her brain, a few days ago, and her situation is critical.... I'm quite devastated, but will be back of course, and I assure you that these painful out-of-the-blue horror scenarios do make you realize how important it is to hang on to things/people of value, and treasure the good times we had, and may have in the future, which looks like a certainty, that I assure you. :) We rarely use smileys, Jess, but believe I am smiling here, and am thankful for the brief reminders you gave of your warm memories, and indeed, what I value in you is <you>
It's a Fact!!
heh, and I like them FENs. |

| Apr-06-13 | | achieve: Ack - while I am sitting here I can't but help recall the candid exchanges we had prior to your leaving for Korea, when we were discussing a bunch of stuff of real value, and I remember them as if they took place yesterday, that's how remarkably "vivid" the recollections are... For example the nightly walks with "Fatso".....and I could go on and on, if time allowed. Lotsa fond memories, for sure. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Niels> I'm sorry to hear of terrible news of your niece. Offer condolence and strength to you. I was thinking of Fatso yesterday too, may have been only a kitty but he was a very good friend as you know. Seemed very special for me and you to talk at length in "real time" then, perhaps something to do with confluence of timezones and when we were awake. 3-4 in the morning in my case. I'm glad to have you back that's for dang sure. It's a fact! |

I was looking through a few offered on "full view" there and marveling at the detail on games from obscure club players as well as masters from the past eh? Games and "Gossip" columns that can still be with us today thanks to the miracle of archiving. |

| Apr-06-13 | | Travis Bickle: Hey Jess, after The Beatles break-up McCartney & Lennon would insult each other in the music trade papers. Then McCartney releases a song called 'Too Many People' with digs about John & Yoko. So Lennon then released his infamous song 'How Do You Sleep'? trashing Paul. After a few years went by and all the bitterness left the two, both McCartney & Lennon did a tribute song to each other. here they are. Let Me Roll It - Paul McCartney (This song is done in the guitar, drum style of John's first solo record 'John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band' & at 4:25 Paul does a vocal impersonation of Lennon.) http://youtu.be/kWFehaQEMYI I Know (I Know) - John Lennon (The main riff in this song is from Paul's I've Got A Feeling Beatles tune & John is apologetic towards Paul and even uses two of McCartney's song titles in the lyrics, Yesterday & It's Getting Better. The title of the song I Know, I Know is from a reported acid trip McCartney took with Lennon after John was having a bad trip, and Lennon & McCartney sat for hours looking at each other saying I know man, I know, with tears getting into each others minds.) http://youtu.be/g5-amF9AW_c |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Travis> Thanks for that crucial Beatles history. This song "Roll it to Me" I knew but I never knew it was referencing John Lennon. Great song from "Band on the Run" which is the only McCartney solo record I know well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWFe... And what a beautiful song by John for Paul, I never heard this one before: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5-a... The story reminds me a bit of the arguing between Mick and Keith as well. Two big forces in the same band. With <Genesis> the friction came between Pete and the others, Pete increasingly coming up with the grand concepts and writing all the lyrics, and the band increasingly expected to write music for Pete's vision. |

| Apr-09-13 | | Alien Math: Some clarity of complaints of Google practices
BRUSSELS — European antitrust regulators have received a formal complaint about Google’s Android operating system for mobile devices, even as they move to the final stages of their inquiry into the company’s search practices. For example, phone makers that agree to use Android — and that also want Google applications like YouTube — face contractual requirements to place those applications and other Google-branded applications in prominent positions on the mobile device’s desktop, Mr. Vinje said. In Monday’s interview, Mr. Almunia said Google needed to offer the commission a solution where choices between Google-branded search results and those of its competitors were clearly visible within the search engine both on desktop computers and on mobile devices. Web sites and some publications have complained in recent years of virtually disappearing from Google’s search engine if they posed a competitive threat or did not comply with Google’s terms. The commission has taken a tougher line with Google than has the Federal Trade Commission on the issue of how Google runs its search rankings. The F.T.C. decided in January, after a 19-month inquiry into how the company operated its search engine, that Google had not broken antitrust laws. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/09/t... |

http://arstechnica.com/business/201...Google mines Frommer’s Travel for social data, then sells the name back
In case you weren't aware of how valuable friends and followers are... In August 2012, Google purchased the travel publishing brand Frommer's Travel from John Wiley and Sons for $22 million Last week, Google paradoxically sold the Frommer's title back to the 83-year-old eponymous founder, who said he intended to resume publishing travel information under his name. Price details were not disclosed. “Google is keeping all of the followers that Frommer’s accrued on Twitter, Facebook, FourSquare, Google+, YouTube and Pinterest.” PaidContent writes. “These thousands—or more likely millions—of accounts are valuable because they represent a huge collection of serious travel enthusiasts.” A Google spokesperson talking to PaidContent said of the purchase, “we’ve spent the last several months integrating the travel content we acquired from Wiley into Google+ Local and our other Google services. We can confirm that we have returned the Frommer’s brand to its founder and are licensing certain travel content to him.” |

| Apr-10-13 | | achieve: <Jess> Have you been able to watch <The Hunt> yet? My guess is "not yet", heh, but if you <have> had the opportunity to watch it I'd love to hear your opinion, and what makes it interesting is that the subject is of course a largely taboo one, still, but also group and peer-pressure in tight-knit communities and all kinds of dynamics in human interaction come to the surface, and the collective scape-goat need supplying an outlet for past repressed memories/experiences of a painful nature... NO SPOILERS intended! Anyhoo, my niece, who was a health-freak, barely 50, looked like she was 40, in perfect shape, is now is a coma and unlikely to get out of it. Our whole family from my mom's side is shocked - this is the first of 10 of us "original grand-children to be struck by such horror, at that age - but I realize this isn't a topic to further discuss, it is depressing, but following your reaction I felt the need to give you a last piece of info. <The Master> - starring Joaquin Phoenix and Seymour-Hoffman made quite an impression on me, and in actual fact there are some interesting parallels to <The Hunt> regarding group pressure, persuasion, beliefs, pressured paradigms, aggression, and repression. And thus need for relief, substance (ab)use, und so weiter. Two films that will really stick for a while with me. Ok, take care! heh - I'll check back regularly. |

The tribes are gathering for the next BOB's Yer Uncle game. I seem to always pick the losing side. Just lucky I guess. But this time we have <kwid> the wonder kid on our side. He's just about the best I've seen at CC so maybe we can buck the trend. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Niels> I'm really sorry to hear about your niece- no worries mentioning it here as often as you wish, you'll always get a sympathetic ear from me. You know me too well- I haven't watched <The Hunt> yet, although I do have it. You know the mania of the eternal downloader, sometimes we think "Ok I have it now, that's done" without watching it. On that note, I have just started downloading <The Master>. I didn't get where I am today by ignoring your film recommendations. I will certainly report back in here after seeing <The Hunt> to share reflections. I've not seen a film by the director before and as you say he has quite a reputation. |

| Apr-10-13 | | achieve: Thanks to all for the warm words, especially <Alien Math> so much appreciated. <Boomie> Will do, mate. And a reply at your place was in the pipeline, I love talking music and art with you. <Jess> I cleaned up my C-drive as well as my external hard-drive recently, indeed to make room, but also because I have had these periods in the past years that I DLed so many films as well as music "because I just want to have it, safely, as a back-up"... Bit like hoarding, "putting things on top of other things", and then realizing that I started creating a mess, even creating folders like "films watched in part" ... ???
Don't know what to say, I feel quite flat today. Good thing is that we finally overhere are leaving the bitter cold weather behind us, to which I'm looking forward. Thanks, again. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: < even creating folders like "films watched in part" ...> hehe I thought I was the only one...
Congratulations on your drive spring cleaning though, that takes guts. For me, I'm still collecting everything I can on external HDs because I have a morbid fear the internet will be shut off by copyright lobby and then I'll be stuck in Korea without any English media access. The downside, of course, is that I may be featured on an episode of the reality TV show "Hoarders." |
