 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Niels> a well timed post, as usual. You are correct. I went to the "Hip Hip Harrah" youtube channel and I'm in the process of downloading many of his fine uploads, especially the concert footage of Pete. That is an excellent song you singled out, I downloaded it in 720 "Pee" quality and I've been watching it over and over. What an artist, what a humanitarian he is. His voice sounds as rich and fresh as ever, even though he must be pushing 100 years old by now eh? Anyways thanks so much for planting that masterpiece in my forum, because I wouldn't have found that on my own. There is an internet rumor that <Lars> is a father? Is it true? You have two (2) weiner dogs now? |

| Jun-26-13 | | achieve: <Hip Hip Harrah> heh - he is a nice guy as well, articulate, has very few views on many of his uploads, but still goes for maximum quality and articulate descriptions. He for example had uploaded a fully remastered audio and video clip of Oscar Peterson's Trio in Prague, did a remarkable job and invested a lot of time to improve the quality, described it as a 'Labor of Love' - which as you know I smiled at and appreciated with regards to my hero, the great, late, Oscar - but....he did not have the Title of the piece entirely correct; it was/is a Medley, of two songs, and after I posted the correct name, within like 48 hours he had corrected it and thanked me in a nice little comment. Re the Concert footage, that was uploaded from a DVD or BluRay copy (Hip Hip has it uploaded in its over-two-hours entirety, as well), produced to perfection imo, with excellent camera angles and editing of the highest quality, showcasing Peter Gabriel's utter control and mastery, very clear eyes, very energetic, an air of superiority perhaps, and it really hit me quite hard, this exceptional quality, and mastery, and usage of lighting, decor, audio, effects, extraordinary close-ups... Feast for the Senses. I would have to read up on Gabriel's humanitarian efforts in more detail, but I read that he is very actively involved in that regard. <Lars> heh - well, the pup did his droppings and leakage primarily in my former home, and since I had a move coming up, and not enough time to properly train him, I had to quickly let the new little guy be adopted by another family. I might have made a judgement error, underestimated the situation, but before there was any real bondage, let him go and within a week the perfect home and family was found. I suspect you read some about it at <Boomba>'s house? I also - of course - had consulted Larry, Mr Big, for advice, but this is all a few months ago by now. Lars needs all my time and guidance, as his eyesight is reduced to zero percent, really, and orientation in my much bigger house with more rooms and walls and doors is obviously very problematic, but there is, thankfully, improvement, but it takes time and effort, since he walked into the apartment building blind, lots of echoes, and he was quite out of sorts at first. In my previous apartment he literally had "visuals" of the place, the outdoors, the street, etc. ... So this is tough, but we do our best. Basically it's up to me to best guide him, take charge, think of little plays and exercises to help him feel around and regain his confidence, and so on... |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Niels> Excellent. It's wonderful when uploaders actually care and communicate with the fans isn't it? All too rare. By "humanitarian' I mispoke- I wasn't referring to his participation in various charity concerts, but rather to the humanity of his lyrics. I did hear rumors of the new doggy! I can't remember where from now. I'm glad <Lars> still has you to guide him and take care of him. Please tell him "hello" from me. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Niels> switching topics, I wonder do you ever use a proxy address? And if so, do you just find one on the net to plug in a website URL, or do you have an actual TAP VPN piece of software? I'm just trying out a new one here and it's making my browser go 10 times faster than normal. I think that my Korean IP address is shunted to the "back of the line" when I navigate to American sites. My current "IP" is from "Wester, America."
Is that even a real place? At any rate, CG.com opened in less than a second. With Korean IP, it can take up to FIVE SECONDS OR MORE to load. Now if only the new proxy software doesn't hijack my computer or something... |

| Jun-26-13 | | Boomie: <Don Jessie "The Lip" Fischerio> A little reminder - Rule 17B of La Caissa Nostro states "We only mate our own". Been watching way too many true crime shows obviously. I have a cracking joke about "made members" but there are children about. |
|
| Jun-26-13 | | achieve: <Jess> Never used a proxy address in my life, but recently definitely found that it might be(come) not just useful, but a necessity in some cases... So you know more about that than I do, but I intend to find out more about it, when the time comes. Now I'm going out to buy a keyboard, as in digital piano, and am quite excited to get a good one at a reasonable price! But the spyware these days is horrible; I visited a few sites recently, or called a store or whatever, and I think within hours "they" knew my "behaviour" and I started getting ads that baffled me as in: "How the heck do they know that??!!" |

|
Jun-26-13
 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Niels> good call on a piano keyboard for your computer. I briefly took a look at a few of these when copyright strikes were blocking many of my chess documentaries on youtube. Briefly- because I not only can't compose, I can't even play a keyboard! Yes the proxies are becoming more important because of the increasing blocks on torrent sites. I think that eventually we will "run out of countries," making a proxy useless to open a banned URL. At least one country has to host the proxy! |
|
| Jun-27-13 | | achieve: Don't you just love that word-- PROXY ?
I used caps not because I'm shouting, but it just sounds so technical and cool and new and mysterious in the internet context. For some reason I feel a need to have my "privacy" be more protected. As per <Alien Math> first link: <Put simply, behavioural advertising is a practice that is based on internet browsing activity and allows brands to deliver adverts to web users which reflect their interests. It’s safe, transparent, and designed to empower you, the consumer.> Empower me, eh? Well, the power of google is enough for me, but I see the point they are making, yet still do not feel quite at ease about it, let alone "empowered"... But facts are facts, the internet is not a private place, and I prolly should not moan too much about it. I never liked cookies on my computer, but what do I know about it, really, to pass judgment on these "practices", many of which I do not even take the time out to seriously study them or how I can avoid them. Thanks to <Alien Math> for providing some back-ground and insight on this. But <Jess> indeed I use TPB proxy servers all the time, and it is as you say dependable on the country from which the server is hosted, its just there in the web-address, but isn't it easy to "fake location" as well? Heck - why not fake continents, or just be like clouds in the atmosphere, vapor moving across national boundaries unaccountable or traceable? I in fact know little to nothing about how that all works, is being controlled, to what extent there are legal boundaries that can be monitored... I do know from my involvement in fighting child abuse and pedo rings and trafficking etc., that there is this network, via which the most gruesome awful filth is being distributed, and the "authorities" do little about it, it works of course with secret access codes and passwords, and the sicko's can not be stopped... Apologies for my digression, but it naturally is a related phenomenon, billions of money is involved, and I just spoke freely about this while I was typing. Deep down I am not that fond of many aspects of the internet, and would gladly unplug if it could keep our world "cleaner." |

Jun-27-13
 | | jessicafischerqueen: hehe I hear you loud and clear.
If every country in the world bans every torrent URL, then there could be no "proxy country" from which to open any of the torrent sites. Every month more countries do this, so time may indeed be running out. It could be a precursor to a globally censored internet. This could usher in a "darknet" in which users create their own closed internet- INVITATION ONLY. However I suspect I may know less than you about any of this, as I get my 'news' from the always hysterical, but not always accurate 'news' site <Torrent Freak>. I suspect Hanh <Alien Math> is a much more informed guide. She's worth her weight in gold on these and related topics. |
|
| Jun-27-13 | | achieve: Yes - good thing for you to give her (Hanh) credit like this, and I will now check out those other two links she posted. I played several hours during the night on my new digital piano with weighted keys, I couldn't stop!! - until I almost fell off my chair that is; it's quite stunning, from Italy, manufactured by ORLA, who mostly provide parts that Roland uses, and I believe that this machine was priced at about 900-1000 euros, but I got a demo model, unboxed, including a supporting frame thing, for just 600, and I think that was pretty cool by the salesman, who also brought it to my home, within an hour, with his own car! Now I need to acquaint myself with linking it to my comp in order to compose and arrange, record, and store and edit the material, but I am just too tired right now to go down on that; I just want to play, and there is a small file on the apparatus itself that can store a limited amount of data. The keyboard really runs excellently, very good low register. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Niels> it just struck me- would you consider the possibility of sending me some sound files that I could use to help score a chess documentary? Files you compose, or files of music by past masters who have been deceased for around 100 years. In both cases, the files would be in the public domain, both the composition and your actual performance. I'd credit you any way you liked in the actual film (if I ever manage to finish another one). What do you think? |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <tbown> JINX!
All this week I've been reading <David Bronstein's> memoir "Secret Notes." What a wonderful personality shines through this touching account of his life. Yes I'd love to do a film on him, but you see I have to actually finish one. Research on many, materials on many, but no finished product for almost 2 years. ahhhh TEACHER IS BAD ROLE MODEL.
heh that's what I tell my students about myself. |

| Jun-27-13 | | achieve: <What do you think?> I'm thinking "this could be fun," and, "hey, this could be hard," but it's an interestingly "decent proposal" and if we have the time and effective communication and ability to share files, it could become really interesting, challenging, and perhaps even rewarding! heh
"And the Grammy for 'Best International Score' goes toooo ........ |
|
| Jun-27-13 | | lotsapoppa: <Niels> communication is no problem for this kind of thing. You can send WAV files or some other high format as a simple email attachment, for example. Larger files can easily be sent through a third party drop and share site such as the one I use to pass books to and from Larry- Can't remember the name of it but I have it bookmarked. I've used it a lot, no problems with it. Step one is the same as if we weren't going to collaborate- you have fun playing and recording whatever you want. Then you can send me files to listen to, if you like. If I think one would go well in a documentary, I'd tell you well in advance of actually using it. When it came time to "pull the trigger" we'd both have to sign off on that. |
|
| Jun-27-13 | | achieve: <Jess> I need time to get my WAVs upto speed, as you will likely know, but other than that I'm in, and really what is most important is to get a notion "early on" of the main narrative, the lead actors, locations, sortof a storyboard view, to then support it with the appropriate musical score. |
