Jul-19-13  cormier: When I was a kid, as tall as three apples,
Very hard to be a man J'parlais
J'disais, I KNOW, I KNOW, I KNOW, I KNOW

It was the beginning, it was the spring
But when I had my 18
I said, I KNOW, this is it, this time I KNOW

And today, the days I m'retourne
J'regarde the land where I still is not 100
And I still dont know not how it moves!

To 25 years, j'savais all: love, roses, life, under
Well yes love! I had done all around!

And fortunately, like friends, I had not eaten all my bread In the middle of my life, I learned yet.
Not what I have learned, it takes three, four words:

"The day someone loves you, it is very nice,
I can not say more, it is very nice!

It's still amazes me that in life,
I who am in the autumn of my life
We forget so many nights of sadness
But never a morning tenderness!

Throughout my youth, I wanted to say I KNOW
Only the more I looked, and then least I got know

There are 60 shots that rang at the clock
I'm still at my window, I look, and j'm'interroge?

Now I KNOW, I KNOW WE NEVER KNOW!

Life, love, money, friends and roses
You never know the sound or the color of things
That's all I know! But that j'le KNOW ... !

Phony Benoni: <jfq> Has it seemed like I've been ignoring you and the WCC editing proposal? Well, the Official Excuse is that we've had a solid week of temperatures in the mid-30s and I don't have air conditioning at home, so I'm feeling more addled than usual.

In reality, I am hesitant about getting involved in something that requires me to supervise or co-ordinate the work of others. I've been avoiding that my enitre adult life with great success. (And please don't bring up the Bistro. The work I do there is entirely different.)

But as to your idea of "Mirror Collections" for editing purposes, that is probably a good idea on the whole as the work will be publicly displayed and easily accessible. The big drawback, of course, is that only the collector could actually edit the introduction.

Would it be better for the person officially in charge of editing to create the collection, or should the General Editor have all the collections under their control? My instinct is the latter, despite the extra work involved, but then that's always been my "management" style. I'm more comfortable with having responsibility myself rathan trusting others to do their jobs. (And it might explain why I'm hesitant to start this!)

But, still, here is a possible template.

Game Collection: DRAFT : WCC : Steinitz-Zukertort 1886

I'm thinking the first few paragraphs with suitable modifications would appear at the top of each collection. I hadn't realized how short these things are.

WCC Editing Project: <Phony Benoni> Ok thank you, and thanks also to Daniel for entrusting me to manage this project.

On the topic of chiming in with help, I'm afraid I've just been spamming your forum with "notes".

I think I will put them elsewhere so as not to try your patience.

I think I can just put them in the WCC Edit forum instead.

30 ♗b5-e8! 1-0 <trapped piece: g6-queen>

click for larger view

A *fantastic* tactical conception by White (Yurtaev).

29 ♕h1-h8+! is a <DOUBLE ATTACK>. One <TACTICAL TARGET> is the <CHECK> to the Black c8-king. The second <TACTICAL TARGET> is the squares e8 (<SUPPORT/COORDINATE>), g8 (<DENIAL>), and g7 (<DENIAL>).

Now the Black g6-queen is <TRAPPED> along the e8-h5 diagonals (<ONE DEGREE OF MOBILITY (ODOM)>) so 30 ♗b5-e8! 1-0 forces instant resignation as Her Majesty has nowhere to run!

It is *astonishing* to me that in the initial position White can force Black's resignation in just 2 moves! Such is the power of <TRAPPING PIECES>, of <LACKING MOBLITY>, of not having enough <FLIGHT SQUARES>.

It is just *unbelievable* that in the starting position Black is going to resign in two moves(!!) because her queen gets <TRAPPED> on her side of the board!!!

Jul-22-13  notyetagm: Watch Black lose this position in just one move(!) by failing to consider the <MOBILITY> of *all* of his pieces.

41 ... ♔h8-g8?? <self-block: g8>

click for larger view

Why is 41 ... ♔h8-g8?? such a bad move? Because it <RESTRICTS THE MOBILITY> of the Black f7-queen too much!

After 41 ... ♔h8-g8??, the Black f7-queen has safe <FLIGHT SQUARES> only on f8 and f6, so Her Majesty has only <ONE DEGREE OF MOBILITY (ODOM)>, which means that after 41 ... ♔h8-g8?? she is nearly <TRAPPED>.

White then closes the door on Her Majesty's cage with 42 ♖e5-f5!, and the Black f7-queen has no where to go.

42 ♖e5-f5! <trapped piece: f7-queen>

click for larger view

I particularly like how the White f4-knight <DOMINATES> the Black f7-queen, <DENYING> Her Majesty the e6- and g6-squares.

A *fantastic* example showing that it can be fatal if you fail to think about the <MOBILITY(!), MOBILITY(!!), MOBILITY(!!!)> of all of your pieces for even a *single* move.

Jul-25-13  achieve: Hi <Jess> - just an update on the musical front, as in Score Town, and I had some cash flowing in my direction and decided to buy the Roland <Duo-Capture> - yes you read correctly, it is also a chess move, that is why I <had> to have it -- but the thing is that as an interface between external audio sources and my PC it should be fine, and I installed the drivers, and it all went smoothly, but I can't for some reason get what i play to be shown on my screen, and neither a sound from my speakers... But I just fooled around with it yesterday, and I think someone should get me underway, and I will have to call the store for that, since I think it should be a great way to also transfer and edit stuff from my conventional audio equipment to my comp; not just from the digital piano. Kinda weird is the fact that in the manual the word "keyboard" isn't mentioned once, small detail there aaaahhh, but it should work if all is properly installed.

But I also have been concentrating on "finishing my move" to the new apartment, where i had this room plus storage shed that needed sifting through, and basically my whole household needs a start with everything at least for once, and for a while, completely orderly, no excess baggage, etc.

I'm bursting with musical ideas, been playing a lot lately as well, no TV or time at CG, and now I can start concentrating on my first and foremost passion, which is being busy with sound and making music, and of course I am itching to try some stuff for your chess docu. In fact that is why I bought the Duo Capture, and for almost 100 euros it should be working like a dream.... Alas, not yet, but it will.
