20 ♘f3-g5?? <left behind: h2,h4; line-opening: b7-g2>

click for larger view

An **incredible** blunder, <VOLUNTARILY REMOVING THE GUARD> of several important squares:

1) White f3-knight was <DEFENDING> the h2-sq by <PROTECTING> it; not any more

2) White f3-knight was <DEFENDING> the h4-sq by <PROTECTING> it; not any more

3) White f3-knight was <DEFENDING> the g2-sq by <INTERPOSING/SHIELDING> it; not any more

Black now wins by neatly exploiting all the squares that 20 ♘f3-g5?? <LEFT BEHIND>.

Goryachkina's 21 ... ♗b7xg2+! wins on the spot, as the White f1-king is <DECOYED> onto the g2-sq, creating a <KNIGHT FORK DISTANCE> with the White f5-queen and Black g6-knight for the <KNIGHT FORK> 22 ... ♘g6xh4+ 0-1.

20 ♘f3-g5?? is the best example of a <LEFT BEHIND> error that I have ever seen. <NOTICE HOW THIS ONE MOVE, THIS BLUNDER, **COMPLETELY** CHANGES THE NATURE OF THE POSITION!>

As an aside, I solved a problem just like this the other day on chesstempo.com, the position after 20 ♘f3-g5??.

Jul-25-13  notyetagm: V Gunina vs L Rogule, 2013

<Nerwal: Another possible explanation was that the on e4 <<<was masking the diagonal d5/g2>>> and so before moving she did not "see" xd5 would be check.>

That is an *excellent* point that you make.

It is exactly these types of <DISCOVERED ATTACK>-errors that GM Maurice Ashley examines in his DVD

"WHAT GRANDMASTERS DON'T SEE VOLUME 2: DISCOVERED ATTACKS"

http://www.chess4less.com/cheap/003...

33 ?

click for larger view

Just like you said, in the initial position shown above the White e4-rook <INTERPOSES/SHIELDS> the White g2-king along the long a8-h1 diagonal. So in **this** position, the Black queen arriving on d5 would **not** be <CHECK>, as the White e4-rook is <INTERPOSING/SHIELDING> His Majesty.

33 ♖e4-d4??

click for larger view

After the White e4-rook goes to the d4-square, however, this is no longer the case. When the Black d6-queen recaptures on d5, it will be <CHECK> and White will be unable to recapture the Black b3-rook, so White loses a piece.

(VARIATION)
34 ... ♕d6x♖d5+ <CHECK!>

click for larger view

This type of "Well the line used to be closed/opened" error is exactly one of the **kinds** of error that GMs make, on those rare occasions when they make ??-moves like 33 ♖e4-d4??.

Jul-25-13  achieve: <notyetagm> GMs, IMs, FMs right down to clublevel players make in many cases identical mistakes, often for different reasons, but sometimes, ackshully most of the time "shared" traits, human universal "flaws" or tendencies like fatigue, nonchalance, underestimation, etc., account for a wide variety of "errors", and very often chess technical reasons aren't primarily responsible for such those. It's a very fluid medium and interaction that takes place on so many levels, that it is hard to try and pinpoint. But it's fun analyzing these dynamics. :)

<Jess> *update*

I <think> I will go for the Roland Quad-Capture audio interface, semi-pro stuff but affordable if you consider the enormous joy and effectiveness I can derive from a one-time purchase of just very good quality. I'll be deciding over the weekend, then from next week onward i can hopefully devote myself to the music, and real recording and editing with the help of a computer plus interface. Actually quite excited here. A life-long dream is within reach! heh

Jul-26-13  achieve: http://medias.audiofanzine.com/imag...

A photo of the devilishly handsome <Quad-Capturer> - and as you can see this one has the familiar MIDI in/out sockets for easy connect with the digital piano, and notation etc., and it combines with top quality audio generation from external sources including microphone, which in effect means that I can play on my "real" piano, and record and edit in high quality... I think I must, most probably, go for this baby.

Jul-26-13  notyetagm: European Individual Women's Championship (2013)

Wow, huge, HUGE, **HUGE** win today for Goryachkina playing White on Board 1.

H3 said dead drawn ending but the Black king was way out of position and Khotenashvili playing Black managed to screw it up and lose.

Goryachkina is now in sole possession of first place after four rounds with a perfect score of <4/4>. This means she will almost *certainly* have the best tiebreak if she can finish =1st at the end of the long 11-round tournament.

If you are new to women's chess Goryachkina is great to watch because she is really strong. She is the reiging <GIRLS UNDER-18 WORLD CHAMPION> at age 14(!).

<alexmagnus: If Goryachikna wins the whole thing she will be the youngest European champ ever (currently this record is held by Lahno from 2005).>

Just learned that Goryachkina has won three(!!!) Girls World Youth Chess Championships.

2008 -> Girls U-10 World Champion
2011 -> Girls U-14 World Champion
2012 -> Girls U-18 World Champion

  WCC Editing Project: <Niels> Outstanding!

How exciting eh? I hope you can soon sort out the "keyboard-computer" interfaces.

I had similar problems just getting a simple Condenser microphone configured to <Audacity> on bloody Windows 7.

You can't possibly imagine how much I'm looking forward to hearing your musical ideas and performances of material we could use in <Petrovs> documentary.

Remember- this is what's immune from copyright strikes on youtube:

1. Your own compositions (YOU own the copyright- if SONY gives a copyright strike to it on youtube, YOU could sue SONY and YOU would win. I have all of the online forms to do this bookmarked, if necessary.

2. Your performance of any other music that was composed at least 100 years ago. I'm not sure how to do this, but it's possible for musicians to digitally encode a "watermark" in a performance of someone else's composition. I know this, because if I play a sound file on Windows Media Player, the player will actually display the name of the composition and the name of the performer.

So again, if you uploaded your performance of "Ave Maria" and SONY gave it a copyright strike based on it being a performance by Anton Rubinstein, you could again SUE and win.

hehe

WCC Editing Project: <Niels> Good Heavens- I'm working every day on the <World Chess Championship Editing Project> so I don't sign out of this account here because....

...well because I'm so lazy I can't be arsed to do it.

Anyhoo I also haven't been checking JFQ forum very often so I JUST REALIZED you haven't finalized you TOP SECRET MUSICAL HARDWARE CHOICES (although you did supply a beautiful top secret photo)....

I can't wait to hear the end of this musical hard/soft/people ware story.

How exciting is it to get new music equipment eh? I remember when my condenser microphone arrived here by post. It had been so much fun investigating what I needed and choosing the product.

WCC Editing Project: <Coach> lol 900 yards of FENs....

Anyways you are always welcome to post your analysis here <WITH FENS>.

Jul-26-13  achieve: <Jess> Exactly - the fun in investigating what my needs or demands are, opposite what is outthere in the semi-pro and really top end markets, and to navigate that emotional pull to go for the top quality choice, which would include a condenser mic as well, I have found, since anything you do or set up, <is as strong, or good, as the WEAKEST LINK> - a very powerful and true dictum imo.... So yes - this is all quite exciting, and literally new worlds open up with regards to the possibilities with a home PC and creating any sort of semblance to a recording studio!

But you have to get the links in the chain, individually, right, in order to benefit from pricy investments and purchases, otherwise you will just be driving a formula one car from the garage to the entrance fence and back, which makes little sense.

I have an appointment with THE GUY at the store on Monday, and then it will be "informed decision time" which is as you said just a load of fun if you approach it in a responsible and inquisitive manner, no rush, allowing for the occasional drop of saliva running down the chin.

Jul-26-13  achieve: <Jess> Speaking of... This is just about music heaven for the audiophile, and this "Bax-shop" has a store in Goes, Zeeland, and is completely specialized towards instruments and recording equipment of any kind in any price-segment, starting with a wide range of microphones which alone is mouthwatering to investigate...

Here's a link to the real store in Goes, which, as it says in the Dutch introduction, does warrant a trip down south west to Zeeland, as it will resemble a "day out" at an amusement park, as you can see from these pictures:

http://www.bax-shop.nl/muziekwinkel/

I could set up my tent out there in front of the shop and roam around all week experimenting...

Looks like i have to call them up this weekend, and ask for some additional advice, and possibly order and purchase from them, which may be a bit rude to the folks I am currently in negotiations with, but that's life; I just want to get me the right equipment at the fairest price. And especially a wide range assortiment.

But this is definitely <the> specialized shop/store in holland.

Jul-27-13  achieve: And a mind boggling assortment of just AKG Stage microphones; the "overview" page:

http://www.bax-shop.nl/docs/akg_mic...

And silly me was thinking I'd have this worked out by Monday, eh?

Well, I actually _might_ just make it.

Jul-27-13  achieve: <Jess> Complete change of topic, and sorry for flooding your floor, but I haven't brought my suitcase with FENs with me this time... What about the Christian Right, I mean, I just now come from the Strogoff page and there we have a certain Big Pawn, expounding the most convoluted garbage, different angle perhaps compared to what we discussed quite a while back, but just about anyone from US Evangelical Right that you can hear preaching on Youtube, read their articles... I mean, I literally become profoundly nauseous, to see the "christian morals and values" mistreated, twisted and abused like that, through a profoundly misleading rhetoric, and basically people are flocking in the hundreds of thousands to see these "leaders" and be brainwashed and put in a sort of trance, to be taken away, basically into the abyss. No more critical thinking, nothing.

Having cleared my throat now, here's a copy/paste of the post I submitted overthere* a moment ago. Just scary, the wicked times we live in.

<Morality as preached - or taught, rather - by Christ was/is very simply worded and unambiguously formulated in the NT, this in stark contrast to the rhetoric of Master Craig and his Disciples, who make a mockery of Christian Morals and the Fruit of the Holy Spirit, so clearly and concisely formulated by Paul in e.g. Galatians Chapter 5. It's really skeery to see the aggressive Christian Right and their misleading Rhetoric "Polluting the Well" (courtesy of Abdel Irada), the Fountain of fine Christian Teachings and Morality being polluted so passionately and with such vigor, with disdain for the human condition, its sensitivities. Look at the fruit they bear, and conclude that they must come from their father, Satan, aka Devil, the Dragon, the one who "leads the whole world astray" (Rev 12), with the exception of those who <do> walk in, and seek, the Light. Those will be guarded, and can not be led astray.

Blessed are the <meek>, for they shall inherit the Earth.

Blessed are the pure of heart...>

WCC Editing Project: <Niels> Good heavens...

Literally!

I'm afraid I no longer make any comments about political or religious debates at Cg.com, at least not on any controversial subjects. I have decided that for me, this website is not an appropriate place for me to voice my views on such topics.

I'm here to do chess history work and enjoy chess fellowship with the many, many wonderful chess enthusiasts I love, of whom I count you among the very first and foremost. We met first!

heh <OnN Trr Kingee! one KINge!>

At any rate, I rarely go to the <Rogoff page> and I never comment there.

WCC Editing Project: Also never worry about flooding my forum.

And who could possibly resist the name <Muziekwinkel>?

It does indeed look like the music lover's techno paradise. I can't wait for you to get outfitted with your dream equipment.

One thing- please don't feel guilty about backing out of one sale to go for a better one, if the goods and money haven't changed hands yet.

People have no obligation to a vendor until they actually get some product or service delivered.

Even then, all we owe them for that is some money.

Jul-27-13  achieve: True - after all I bought for over 600 Euro of stuff just a month ago, and the prices for similar or better equipment from the Bax-shop are considerably lower, I found already.

<Christian Right> I understand your approach here at CG - and a prudent one at that, may I add, and very practical.

But these evangelists 99/100 give me rash or worse, and you could place me as a "strong sympathizer to simple Christian doctrine and moral values." Factor that in and one goes: ????

Bit vague, huh? But to me it isn't all as crystal clear as it was some 5 years ago. But the important parts are.

Back to work - I'm cleaning up an old bike and it is getting close to brand-new-state... Remarkable how old stuff can shine and zoom again, given the proper care and attention.

Jul-27-13  achieve: <Jess> Remember my former DR Euwe avatar? It has made a come-back in some style, as it pops up regularly at the top of the forum activity page (recent activity), and it creeped me out at first.... Because it's me!! <Was>... Still the association and physiology are quite powerful after all this time.

The user is <thomastonk>, a fine poster btw, and he recently openened his forum, I assume.
