 click for larger viewContinuing with my above kibitz, why is 23 ♕d3-f3! a much better move than the <BLUNDER> 23 ♕d3-d4? ? Because on the d4-square, the White d4-queen <DEFENDER> is subject attack! <REMOVE THE GUARD>!!! 23 ... ♖c8-c4! <attack defender: f2-sq>
 click for larger view24 ♕d4x♖c4 ♕h4xf2+ 25 ♔g1-h2
click for larger viewAnd now instead of grabbing the White e1-rook to regain material and <CASH IN TOO EARLY>, T. Kosintseva playing Black played the much, much <STRONGER THREAT (EST)> 25 ... ♘e4-d2!. 25 ... ♘e4-d2! <<line-clearance: b7->g2>
 click for larger viewThis brilliant <ZWISCHENZUG> is based on the <LINE CLEARANCE> theme, vacating the a8-h1 diagonal with <TEMPO> on that <EXPOSED> White c4-queen to create a <DISCOVERY CHAIN> whose <VICTIM POINT> is the <LOOSE SQUARE NEAR THE ENEMY KING>, the g2-sq. The tactical point is that if White captures the Black d2-knight with 26 ♗c1x♘d2, White plays the <DISCOVERED ATTACK AGAINST A SQUARE> 26 ...♘d5-e3!, threatening both 27 ... ♘e3x♕c4 and 27 ... ♕f2xg2#. 26 ♗c1x♘d2 ♘d5-e3! <discovered attack: c4, g2>

Her <CENTRALIZATION> and <LIGHT-SQUARED DOMINATION> is immense with the <LIGHT-SQUARED> Black b7-bishop, d5- and e4-knights and f5- and e6-pawns. Hat tip to <Nerwal> for pointing this great combination out to me. :-) |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <chessmoron: Re: The Conjuring. Good build-up and execution. Acting is fairly good. Ending felt a bit abrupt. Scary yes. Scary as the original Shutter...heck no.> <McLovin> I don't think I enjoyed The Conjuring as much as you did. I know all horror films have to be derivative in some sense, but I didn't see any new ground broken in this film. Sort of a combination of the "Paranormal Activity" style and the "Haunted House" style. Also, I didn't find the screenplay so convincing. I was wondering "why so many daughters in the family"? There was no chance to develop any of their characters because there were too many of them. I agree on the original <Shutter>- one of the most frightening horror films in my view- especially the last scene... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0440803...
And I'm glad to see the original <Shutter> currently sporting a 7.0 IMDB rating, which is very high for a horror film, as you know. I'd rate <The Conjuring> lower than that. |

I agree with you, you could have been certainly more diplomatic. Otherwise, I can't comment on the matter in question as I don't follow what Nat does too much (but yes, I know about the issue with her husband and the The World team). For sure, she is the 26th highest rated female chessplayer, so pretty strong and yet I rarely had the opportunity to enjoy her live comments or ever visit her webpage. That's why I can't judge the matter and don't want to comment on it. But it immediately reminded me of Mondo's GM Archangelski though this may have nothing to do with each other. Usually, the reaction you got is pretty typical, I guess. This has all been seen before, even when the accusations were much less inflammatorily worded - guess you already know what I'm alluding to. This could have been observed, naming just two instances, at the beginning of December 2004 on Mondo's page and beginning of October 2008 on Mondo's and Mozart's pages (you know, Mozart, always attacked by "young Salieri" to show that one got his education from Hollywood movies). On a more general note, I can understand you getting worked up while reading a post and then writing down your own and becoming even more angry so I would suggest you to not directly reply (either not writing while worked up or at least not send away immediately) but first calm down and then have a 2nd and (maybe) 3rd look. And your honesty regarding your other accounts is appreciated - thanks for that! |

 | | WCC Editing Project: <Karpova> thanks very much for your suggestions- sounds like good advice. I have a history of impulsively letting angry posts fly, and it's certainly nothing to be proud of. No doubt about that.
I'm not aware of the <GM "The Typesetter Did It's"> GM Archangelski affair, but I'd like to know more about it. Sounds intriguing. Over the last decade I've not been in the habit of regularly reading <GM "Kasparov's MGP? What Kasparov's MGP?'s> page. I didn't even know we had a <Mozart> page! If you have time/inclination, would you possibly supply me a link so I can have a look? It's certainly not necessary for you do to extra research for my benefit here, but if you posted a navigational aid I'd be happy to investigate further. |

<JFQ, in the past you have rebuked me quite strongly in regard to my treatment of AJ, yet you have revealed yourself as a hypocrite in regard to Natalia Pogonia.> Yes, I have treated you hypocritically in this regard. In addition, concerning the things I rebuked you for about <The Untitled Whatnot> are things that I've also done against him myself, just as much as you have. Particularly in the long-suffering <FSR's> forum. I fear I tested his patience by using his forum as a launching pad for a vicious three day rant against the <Untitled Guy>. So I apologize for this hypocrisy against you.
With regard to rebuking <WGM Pogonina>, as I mention above, I've already said all I have to say about that. Speaking only for myself, I have no problem agreeing to disagree on that issue. Same goes for any other friends, colleagues, or Cg.com members. |

 | | WCC Editing Project: <Niels> Ok I've replied to your most recent round of TOP SECRET ENCRYPTED messages, and I was so happy to actually see your gear and your set up! The film played beautifully on my VLC, so maybe my "gamma ray" settings are already in the right place? I'm such a duffer with the VLC.
I do routinely tinker with the settings whilst watching video files, but thanks to the handy "restore default settings option" I mainly just randomly point and click, hoping to fix whatever I think is the problem. I didn't think your camera produced a bad image at all. I was also pleased to learn that VLC can play a QuickTime file- I didn't know that! |

|
| Aug-07-13 | | achieve: <Jess> Well - in the middle of the night the resolution drops unless you switch on some really big lights. Glad you liked that 13 sec intimate "peek" behind the scenes. 21MB !! Eg The Conjuring I just now downloaded, 105 minutes, 700MB! In "mov" that would explode to a whopping 60 GIGAByte. Meanwhile I've taken the front panel off my piano to experiment with "microphone <in> piano" placement, which gives incredibly pure sound relay, with the mic just inches of the nearest strings, incredible stuff.... Been experimenting with that, perfecting the levels for that setup, and also one with my mic tied to my music stand so that it "listens in" from over my shoulder. It's a science all by itself, mic-placement, also the angle at which you place it, it goes on and on. Ideally I would want two 300 dollar Neumann or Rode microphones and then it's ..... Sound engineering Heaven! Also, have you ever seen the beautiful inside of a top brand piano, front panel off? Anyway, as you see, I've not been a lazy fatass on the music and sound engineering front, and it's loads of fun. |

 | | WCC Editing Project: <Niels> wonderful!
Excellent "tech savvyness" on getting that file down to 21MB. I have indeed seen the inside of a piano with the front off, but it was not a <top brand>. It was still a beautiful sight. A little dusty, in this case. I remember eating a muffin whilst looking at it, and my Mother saying "Don't eat near the piano when the cover is off." Me: "Why"
Mother: "We will get mice."
Who knew?
You have indeed been industrious in gathering TOP SECRET QUALITY tech items for your studio, experimenting with your studio settings, and actually producing high quality sound files. As I mentioned in our SECRET ENCRYPTED correspondence, I'm very happy to hear as many of these files as you'd care to send. Ad Astra!
(PS you received a well-deserved compliment for the accurate, level-headed "summing up" post you made the other day on the <cheater of the month> page. I wish I'd been able to magically read your post before I made mine; I would certainly have worded mine differently- and perhaps not even made the post at all. What's done is done, though. The compliment was courtesy of the redoubtable <Check It Out>: Check It Out chessforum) |

<I'm not aware of the <GM "The Typesetter Did It's"> GM Archangelski affair, but I'd like to know more about it. Sounds intriguing.> See here - http://www.chesshistory.com/winter/... - item <Grandmaster title> and http://www.chesshistory.com/winter/.... In short, Mondo mentioned a grandmaster Archangelski in 'The Times' of March 12, 1994. Now, Winter pointed out that there was no GM of that name and Mondo replied that <FIDE is not the only body to award grandmaster titles> and <that Archangelski was awarded a national title by the USSR Federation> which induced even Pein to comment that he should start awarding titles to himself. <If you have time/inclination, would you possibly supply me a link so I can have a look? It's certainly not necessary for you do to extra research for my benefit here, but if you posted a navigational aid I'd be happy to investigate further.> And here is the link to the Salieri item (the first one about Dr. Lasker vs Dr. Tarrasch): http://www.chesshistory.com/winter/...
He uses to call Winter a <young Salieri> here also so he may consider himself to be the Mozart of chess or chess book authorship or "scholarahip" in general. |
|
| Aug-07-13 | | achieve: <Jess> two more words on the Fide GM vs chess grandmaster thingy. It's just what we got used to reading into it and hearing the word Grandmaster when we grew up, and at least I was then not aware of there being WGMs around, which is just a slightly lesser version of the coveted term and title as we are accustomed to knowing it. You have loads of BMWs, the automobile I refer to, and the one from the 300-series is certainly a "lesser" product than one from the 700-series, but it's still a BMW. I think this is a fairly decent analogy.
And NP very correctly did/does not use capitals when she writes 'chess grandmaster' - so the difference is what we hear in our head when we read I am a grandmaster, compared to what it actually says on the page when you view it in context. Blowing up over that technicality was a waste of (everyone's) energy, probably gave a rush, and the only amusing part was that you were called "dude" and "guy"; at least I find that somewhat funny. I'll send you a few pics, or a "very short film" of the inside of my Schimmel piano, from 1974, still in splendid shape. |
|
| Aug-07-13 | | Karpova: <TheFocus: Is this then your true nature? Is this how I am to now to regard you? As a hypocrite? NP is a GM. Accept it and don't embarrass yourself further. Shame on you.>
Appears a bit harsh to my taste. After all there is some disambiguity about Nat's wording - so it's a point that is fully justified to be brought up, though not in that manner and not in that place (asking her to clear up the issue on her player page would have sufficed). But this can hardly be compared to the <AJ> issue considering extent, duration, strong wording and that it only served <AJ>'s interests in the end. Apart from that, Nat is in no way comparable to <AJ>. |
|
Aug-07-13
 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Niels> It is indeed a decent analogy, and I both understand and accept your point. After all these years eh? I'm still doing it, instead of counting to 300. Even when I do have a point that I, at least, think is valid, when I use an angry and needlessly disrespectful tone to try to make the point, any hope of the point being made is lost. |

Google Drive by Shooting!
Who knew? I never heard of it before.
But now I'm downloading your latest film as I type... |
|
| Aug-07-13 | | achieve: <Jess> Perfect - no need to further elaborate - and especially so since I sent you an emu with a file exceeding 25M, with Google Drive.... First time ever for me. When you see that beam to which the hammers are resting, that beam I affixed the mic to, pointing straight toward the strings, by using the opening in between two hammers at about one third from the left, where the bass register moves to the middle register. |
|
| Aug-07-13 | | MarkFinan: I wouldn't worry about it at all.. Most the people that commented are hypocrites anyways and i knew as soon as they realised it was you they'd start acting like the two faced creeps they are..
Props to focus for sticking to his guns though, although he's being a tad dramatic.. On a lighter note, Goldsby thinks some guy who's been cheating has a DVD player built into his head!
Yeh.. You read that right!
Haha he's completely insane :) |
